Présentation de l'éditeur

Adam Craig is burned out. Lead singer of the hard rock band Black Varen, he’s tired of the empty life of groupies, paparazzi, and hotel rooms. Worse, a life in the closet. After the final concert of their latest tour, he flees the afterparty, pursuing memories of lost summers and carefree days, until he passes out on the patio of a shuttered lake resort.

Miles Caldwell is a brilliant artist, tied by agoraphobia and social anxiety to his family’s lodge. Alone but for his parrot, he spends his days illuminating manuscripts and hiding from the complexities of life. When he discovers Adam asleep in a deck chair, he’s furious but intrigued. Adam soon charms his way into Miles’s bed, and they lose themselves in a summer idyll, safe from the compromises and claims of reality.

But Adam’s life, with all it demands, is waiting for him. And Miles, uncertain of Adam’s true feelings, is battling demons of his own. Somehow, the man who’s never home and the man who never leaves it must find the strength to fight for a future together.

One night while he’s on tour, a jaded rock star escapes the banalities of his rock star existence and flees to a beloved childhood haunt.

The main character is a closeted gay man who is only working in the band until he can do what he really wants to do. However, the trappings of the ‘rock star lifestyle’ are beginning to grind him down and wear away at his soul. The property’s current owner is agoraphobic artist whose eccentricities and emotional short-comings are the result of an accident that he cannot recall. Both men are searching for authenticity in their lives. Luckily, they find this in each other.

Given the love interest’s inability to leave the property, the first half of the book is spent there. Then, when the main character is forced to return to work in the band, the lovers are separated for much of the second half. Technically this should have worked (boy meets boy, boy loses boy, boy gets boy back again), but I felt that the separation caused the action to slow down and that it went on a little too long. I wanted the story to build to some kind of crescendo, but it didn't quite get there. When all the relevant stuff happens in the beginning, what’s left? The other thing that jarred with me a little was the insta-love relationship. Unfortunately, my suspension of disbelief couldn’t quite buy into it. However, I know this works for other folks and this is just my opinion.

I am a big fan of rock music and rock fiction. Unfortunately, for me there wasn’t quite enough of either here for me. Despite this, overall, I did enjoy it and i liked the writer’s style. The tone is light and it was a quick, easy read and I would certainly read something else by this author.

As sweet as Adam is it was Miles that captured my heart the most. As much as Miles was dependent and alone he was very strong too. His love for Adam was fierce and he would do anything for him.

Adam was precious but had some issues to work on that isn't saying miles didn't but miles acknowledged his. Adam though really needed to get comfortable and say pooh on all you this is who I am. Unfortunately fear of not doing what he loved took a part in that. Okay so back to Miles whom I loved.

Miles is a recluse a cute recluse who went into the steamy scenes with wide eyed abandon. He explored and this got Adam in awe and love with Mlies. Miles was a amazing artist. He was cranky and irritating but I think that was frustration over feeling helpless about his situation. This didn't affect Adam in face it endeared him to Miles. They have these precious two weeks and they want to see each other more. Unfortunately Miles is naggled with doubt and Adam his silly career expectations on how his personal life should happen and presto blamo no Turkey day visit. I wanted that visit to after the steamy scenes and their connection.

As they miss one another, Adam does some really sensual things to get miles to remember him (silly boy he remembers you just is afraid) and this leads to a big splat in his career. From here things for Adam go downhill. Miles is struggling to not ask Adam back in his life but is trying to get his life back. He wants ownership of himself again. Adam has a tragic incident and this leaves miles in a panic sending him over the edge. But he is so precious in what he does and his feelings come out.

A precious story of love and acceptance. It is a coming together of two souls who need each other to be strong and get over their insecurities and become the people they are meant to be.

This was my second book by this author and it will not be my last. As already mentioned Adam is a musician in a rock band who keeps himself in the closet to avoid any negativity towards the band. He finds himself asleep on a patio to a cabin he use to come to with his parents when younger. There he meets Miles the owner and recognizes him immediately, when he had a childhood crush, only Miles never knew about it. Adam ends up staying with him for a few days while on break from the band in between gigs. Their chemistry is pretty instant and they fall into bed together quickly. Miles has some problems from a traumatic experience when he was younger and cannot leave the safety of his home and property. Adam really connects to him and understands him better than anyone and they get along great. I like a little more details and passion in the love scenes I read but they had a good chemistry together and an instant attraction. Adam had to go back to his home and rejoin his band but he was leaving with the understanding he would be back soon to visit. After he left Miles started to doubt their relationship and Adams sincerity. My only problem with the story, it seemed to me, was they spent more time apart than together. Miles needed to come to terms with his anxiety problems and his insecurities about Adam. When they finally came back together they were great for each other. Miles is letting Adam help him work thru and try to overcome his fears and it was awesome how he loved him no matter his hang ups. They have a good support system around them as well. Of course, there is so much more to this story, fears, angst, emotional turmoil, passion and love. It is worth reading and I would recommend to anyone who wants a story where love finally conquers all.

This is one of those stories that pushes all my buttons. Broken men, romance, coming out, hot sex. Once again this author has claimed my heart with her off beat, quirky Miles Caldwell. How do you love a hermit, ask Adam Craig, the burned out lead singer of Black Varen.

Adam stumbles across Miles when he hires a cab to take him from Chicago to Milwaukee. He comes out of his drunken, drug stupor long enough to recognize a lake that held happy memories for him as a child. He leaves the cab. For the next few days he leaves behind the rock world, and enters the silent, lonely life of a cranky artist. What follows is a voyage of discovery that wraps it's arms around you, holding you so that you never want to leave. The ups and downs are inevitable. Secrets are revealed, but there is much joy found in this quirky twosome.

This has some very strong woman characters in Lisa, Mile's sister and Evie, Adam's ex-girlfriend and closest friend. For those protesting strong female characters in m/m, if you let this color you perception of this book, then that is truly sad.

I give it an illustrated page full of stars.

I listened to my Life House playlist while reading this. Perfection.

Ms. Speedwell got me on the first page. I could not stop reading, read the whole thing in a single sitting. A whole new definition of page-turner for me.

The characters were so engaging, so deeply conceived, so attractive and sincere that I found myself rooting for them from their very first lines of dialog.

Of course, it wouldn't be an M/M Romance without the affliction of the week. It seems that every gay novel I read lately has to have some terrible physical or mental disability to provide sufficient obstacles to overcome, such as PTSD, trust issues, disfigured faces, deafness, muteness or blindness to drive the story.

And this one has agoraphobia and amnesia, both in the same book!

However, this talented writer has managed to weave it so seamlessly into the story that I didn't even mind.

As it turns out, I've already read several of her books, but rest assured that I will read ever book that Rowan Speedwell writes!
