Great to get more details about wine, terroir, biodynamy, etc. in a fun and relaxed book.
Very informative for 95% of people who've stopped thinking about how food and wine are produced and simply take it for granted.
Get it and gift it, safe bet!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Thoughtful and fun commentary on many aspects of wine; great gift 14 mai 2013

Format: Broché
Numbed from the breezy overviews of magazine wine writing, stultified from the academic texts on wine history, agriculture, and soil chemistry and geology, one wonders where to find wine conversation that is not ephemeral, dogmatic, or didactic. Here you have it, with the added pleasure of a cheerful voice that engages in some pieties (whole food) and many irreverences (wine glass options).

The curious novice will find much useful guidance, enough to assist in some wine selections, and to engage with others of similar interest, and to set the stage for further gustatory and documentary research, should they be so inclined. Or, to leave the topic as being well-enough developed in this summary tome, and move to other interests. An important skill of this books is to avoid discussion of particular regions and practices, in favor of an overview of practices and considerations of all aspects of wine production and consumption, which bear on our ability to select and enjoy any bottle.

The advanced oenophile will find a few new perspectives, and ought to think their time with INTO WINE worthwhile, as I did. Magny gracefully insinuates himself into the short cannon of wine writers one likes to read. The book will be useful as a gift for friends who express wine interest and would benefit from an overview. Indeed it may serve as a bit of a lesson to those with a surfeit of convictions about wine, how well we can get along with fewer of them, and still do honor to our subject.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 INTO WINE - readable and memorable 6 mai 2013

It was such a privilege to be one of the first people to read this book - hot off the press - when Olivier came to Melbourne for the Australian Festival of Travel Writing! INTO WINE was snapped up by winemaking students, foodies and Francophiles, professors and people who just want to find out more about wine in an easy to read style. Olivier presents a wealth of information about the history, culture, art and science of wine, along with some pretty feisty arguments against multinational monopolies, fertilisers and a few other forces that threaten the true pleasure of wine. What is amazing is that he can cristallise a serious amount of factual detail into a few paragraphs that are readable and memorable - it's like he's telling you a story that you want to remember and tell other people. It's an invaluable addition to any wine lover's collection and a must for those who really want to get into wine!

I loved Olivier's writing style in "Stuff Parsians Like", and "Into Wine" didn't disappoint. Fantastic read for wine enthusiasts and amateurs alike, particularly liked the bent towards organic/sustainable grape growing, and the light shed on the french notion of Terroir, totally illuminating. Very funny as well!

You will thoroughly love this book, so buy it, open a bottle of wine, and sit back and enjoy. This book is informative, interesting and entertaining. Olivier effortlessly combines it all and makes the world of wine not so intimidating. I knew a little about wine before getting this book. I definitely enjoyed drinking it. I have picked up other wine books and tossed them aside because, quite honestly, I couldn't understand them, or they bored me. Still, I desired to learn more, so I went ahead and purchased the book. It is quite clear that Olivier truly has a passion for wine, and it makes the book all the more enjoyable. Reading the book has made me appreciate wine even more. I love that the book is so easy to ready, yet packed with so much to learn. I definitely understand terroir! Thank you Olivier for a great wine book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 "Savoir Faire French Wines" loves Olivier's book 29 septembre 2013

Olivier's voice needs to be heard more in the world of wine. The status quo has got to change. Yes, with the explosion of technology and social media anyone can make it seem that they are experts if they can cleverly exploit it with no legitimate experience or knowledge, just an opinion. Then at the other end we have the famous names that write the "commandments of great wines" and provide the scores the reviews that shalt not be challenged.

Olivier is a breakthrough, this book is a breakthrough that anyone from those who like a glass of wine every once in awhile with dinner to those who are trying be more knowledgeable to those who would be considered experts should read. I met Olivier about 8 years ago when I visited Paris and did a wine tasting with O Chateau his first venture and it was a wonderful experience that inspired me to keep learning so I was wondering why he didn't write this sooner. He is legitimately passionate about his love of wine and most important he relates to you. He wants to share and experience his journey with you. That style helps you understand and learn and then develop your own opinions and perceptions much faster and more accurately. He is breaking down the right barriers, and the opening doors to a pleasurable experience. Read the book, its fun and you will learn fast and unexpectedly come away with a new perspective. Olivier, by the way, next time, lose the footnotes, they are important enough to be in the text. Looking forward to a sequel!
