Interesting book. I'm almost done reading it. You can see that the author tries to explain a lot of things from the point of view of a physicist (I had physics myself in college) but without the math, as far as I can tell (not done reading it). Its very generalized, which is probably why some people don't like it. It doesn't spoon feed you the answers on how to get the best guitar tone, but does get into a lot of details about the guitar, materials its made of and electronics.
So bad the publisher should be beaten into subconsciousness with a wet carp

I can't tell if Brosnac actually knows what he is talking about or not. This book is written worse than any other book I've ever read. I am not exagerating. It is gibberish. I am a pretty bright guy, a scientist by training, so it isn't just that he's talking over my head. It reads like a science paper written by a 9th grader with no comprehension of the subject material. Just poorly paraphrased, jumbled, non-sequitorial, muck gathered from a mix of technical and not-so-technical sources. It must have been editted by a illiterate. It is rife with grammer that is so bad as to make it unintelligible--not to mention the typos. I truly can't believe that anyone would actually publish anything so badly written. Unless you already have a strong understanding of what the author is trying to convey then there isn't much chance of deciphering this morass. If you do have that kind of understanding, please, write a book about it. Even if it is mediocre it'll be worlds better than this one. I wish I could give it negative stars. Lots of them. Do you get the point? Don't waste your money unless you want to buy the copy that I bought.

This book reads like Brosnac had skimmed through a bunch of other books in a wide variety of areas, edited his notes, and slapped a title on it. There is NOTHING covered in depth by this piece of fluff, and I would strongly encourage others to NOT BUY THIS BOOK.

I got this book from the library to check it out before buying it, and I'm glad I did. Sadly, while I believe the author had good intentions, it reads like he sent some preliminary research notes to the publisher as a rough idea for a book and, lo and behold, the publisher went ahead and printed it as received. Clearly, little if any editing was done, and the book is a rather disorganized mess, containing far more questions than answers. I would encourage the author to finish his great idea for a book, then approach another more competent publisher. Meanwhile, I'll go about trying to answer some of his book's tantalizing questions through my own meager research efforts.

Obviously anyone that totally trashes this book has not read the entire book. The first part of this book, quite interesting when this book was first written, might seem poderous to some people in 2012. This book is titled An Introduction to Scientific Guitar Design, and as such is simply an introduction to the subject. If you read the entire book you will find sections on attempts to scientifically design a guitar, e.g. Dr. Kasha's 'specific zone area sound production'. The last chapter, with the many pages of real-time spectral analysis comparisons of a traditional guitar and a modern inexpensive guitar is completely unique to this book. If you compare the amplitude and frequency of the harmonic overtones, you will see what appears to be dissident over tones and odd harmonics. This is quite enlightening, and should be read by all guitar builders. Does this run contrary to classic academic wave propagation theory (Huygens 1670)? Does the three-dimensionality of a guitar's body produce odd (vs. even) harmonics? Look at the charts on pages 88 to 92. This is a bit like the latest discoveries of motion at the edges of the cosmos.
