Présentation de l'éditeur

New York Times/USA Today bestselling author, Deanna Chase, brings you book two in the Crescent City Fae series.

Finding the perfect dress can be hell… especially when a stranger tries to gun you down in broad daylight.

Void agent and magical baker extraordinaire, Willow Rhoswen has been anticipating her first date with Talisen Kavanagh since she was sixteen. After eight years of waiting, there are only two things that can stand in her way—an assassination attempt and a new game-changing drug.

Talisen’s invented a new elixir that creates superhumans, ones that can rival vampire strength, and everyone wants it. Including the vampires. With Willow’s life on the line, he makes a deal with the devil, while she’s forced to accept the always-strings-attached protection from the most notorious vampire organization in New Orleans.

But when Talisen and his drug go missing, Willow will stop at nothing to find him, even if it means working with her vampire-ex, David. With souped-up humans, dangerous vampires, and more questions than answers, Willow has less than twenty-four hours to find him before everything changes forever.

Title: Irresistible Magic
Series: Crescent City Fae Book #2
Author: Deanna Chase
Rating: A
Review: After reading the first book in this series, Influential Magic, I simply could not wait to read this next title in the series. Part of what I liked about this series is the fact that the main character Willow is not super powerful or anything - don't get me wrong, she has some really cool powers - but there are a lot of things out there stronger than she is. What makes her so strong is her determination to not give up, her strong ethical code, and her friends who are always there for her when she needs them. I really enjoy her character.
As with a lot of books these days, there is a bit of a love triangle - with both males having you root for them for different reasons. On one hand we have her ex, David, who dumped her by text message and ran off to become a vampire. We've always know there was more to that story that what is revealed, and in this second book, we get some answers to some of our more burning questions regarding David. And to be honest, there are still lingering feelings for David. On the other hand, we have Talisen - the best friend who was always somewhat of a crush while growing up. They have a lot of history, but things are heading toward a new level in their relationship. I am personally rooting for Talisen in this little drama, and with the way the last book left off, I was really excited on where this relationship was going. (sigh) I have to admit though that I was disappointed in Talisen in this book.
However, it is not all about the romance - Deanna Chase tells an amazing tale that is both captivating and intriguing. Once I pick up one of her books, it is really hard to put it down! They are always action packed with excellent plot lines that only get more and more interesting the more you read of it. After reading the first book in this series - while waiting for this book to release - I read the author's Bourbon Street series and was amazed by how much I enjoyed that one as well. Deanna Chase has fast become one of my favorite authors, and one that no matter what I pick up by her - I just fall in love with it! Can't wait to see where the rest of this series goes!

I really liked the first book in this series and was looking forward to this book, but I was very disappointed. Willow did not grow as a character at all. She still didn’t trust her friends, and constantly accused them of “keeping secrets” when most of the time they just weren’t telling her things that were none of her business. I also found myself annoyed with her insistence to include herself in every dangerous mission. She said herself multiple times that she has no combat training. Nor does she have a active form of magic that can be used in self-defense. Not to mention a severe allergy to Vampire’s and fragile wings. She wasn’t helpful she was in the way, and making it more dangerous for other’s. Throughout so much of the book I found her selfish and whinny.

But once again I loved the other characters. Phoebe her best friend is a hoot. Her dog/werewolf is adorable and scary. David is much more self sacrificing and loving than I thought. Eadric is complex and I look forward to more of his story and growth. I was very disappointed with Tal and where his story line went, he suddenly did a 180 and his behavior just seemed like an excuse for Willow to do certain things and remain a victim. I will read the next book in this series, I love this world. I just wish I liked the heroine more.

What I like best about Deanna Chase's main characters isthey are not only girly girls with regular lives and careers in the "normal" world but also bad a** women who enforce peace and balance in the paranormal world. Willow is no exception. It's fun to get lost in her story and imagine the possibilities. The settings in New Orleans also promote a magical mood for your mind. I highly recommend this book and any others by this author.

Once again this series started out with promise but by book two started falling apart. I cannot understand the hot and cold romance Willow has with the two males in her life. It has already become annoying to me as a reader and the men are just as fickle. I may not buy another book in this series.

This is book 2 in the Crescent City Fae series and I strongly recommend that you read these books in order as they include spoilers for previously books in the series.
At the end of the last book we were left with some pretty big information that turns into big plot in book 2. No longer a sideliner who is just there to support Willow, Talisen now takes some attention himself as a the creator of a powerful substance that is very open to criminal abuse.
I find it interesting how Deanna Chase takes good characters in this series and matches them to horrific creations that, while they may have good uses, are essentially the tools to create a horrific dictatorship or other overly powerful ruling body. It is mind boggling to see magic as both the gentle nature-focused happy moments in the main character's lives and the tools of world domination and subjugation simultaneously. The plot never takes it to a nightmarish place like that, but the combination of physical and psychological power that these two have created should make you stop and think.
That is something that really sets Deanna's books apart for me, the way she brings in such unexpected and often complex and interesting aspects to her seemingly lighthearted world. She gives you an intellectual pause while enjoying a page turning fun read, to think about some of the realities of magic of any kind in our complicated world where things can be used in ways the creator never intended.
This series has really grown on me, I honestly thought I mightn't enjoy it as much as the Jade series as it is not filled with the adults-only scenes that the Bourbon street series has in every book, but it has such a charm of it's own, the political machinations are so unpredictable, I love it.
