Présentation de l'éditeur

Attorney Sasha McCandless is back in Irretrievably Broken!

The venerable law firm of Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson -- purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband -- when a photograph of the dead woman arrives, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused.

Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, so she’s suspicious when her former firm asks her to represent Ellen’s husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case and soon finds herself representing not one, but both, of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours jeopardize her relationship with Leo Connelly when he needs her most.

That’s the least of Sasha’s troubles, though, because what she doesn’t know is that the real killer is waging a vendetta for a past case gone wrong. And there's one more lawyer on his list.

Wasn't disappointed when deciding to read another in this series. Miller has what it takes when writing a legal thriller, and I shall certainly buy all the others.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller #3 5 juillet 2012

Sasha is back and taking on cases that she has never handled before. When two female lawyers from Sasha's old law firm, Prescott & Talbott, are murdered and their husbands are accused of those murders, Sasha is asked by the firm to represent the husbands. Criminal law is something Sasha has no experience with but she still manages to bring the same spunkiness to court. Sasha isn't only stressed-out from work she is also dealing with problems in her relationship with Leo Connelly.

It was nice to see Sasha doing something new, and even unfamiliar to her. It was interesting to see a more vulnerable side to Sasha with her doubts about the criminal cases and her feelings about Leo. The suspense and twists in regards to the murders left me hooked on the book. The action at the end really had my heart racing (as I'm sure Sasha's was too). I found the end part about the relationship between Sasha and Leo to be cute and left me wanting to know what will happen with them next.

I can't wait for the next book in this series. This is definitely one of my favorite series' and Sasha (in all her Krav Maga, butt-kicking glory) is an intriguing, and fun to read about character.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very good legal thriller 7 juillet 2012

"Irretrievably Broken" is a good title for this entry into Sasha McCandless's adventures as petite lawyer who kicks butt in and out of the courtroom. As we learn, along with a lot of other legalese that the author helpfully explains, it's a term for a divorce where the relationship is considered unsalvageable. That's the main theme of this book, which carries through the tightly-knit subplots. How do you make a relationship work? What destroys a marriage? In the case of the latter, it's a serial killer, but the story goes much deeper than that.

There's not a lot of mystery to this thriller, but the compelling plot carried me right along, and a great execution is 90% of the experience. I don't feel like the firm's motivations in "needing" to hire Sasha were ever clear to me, and the ending was somewhat abrupt, but I really loved the colorful cast of marvelously nuanced characters. I especially enjoyed the deftness with which Miller handled the leal aspects, which were authentic without being confusing--no small feat for a reader like me, whose entire knowledge of law is that there is something called habeus corpus (I think). Loved the book.

This book started out with a lot of legalese but once it took off you couldn't help but root for Sasha. Great ending. Totally unexpected. Can't wait for the next one.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Love Sasha 23 juillet 2012

Sasha McCandless is an ethical lawyer and a decent character. The author has written 3 So far all are excellent and intelligently done. I have enjoyed reading a complicated case and storyline that is not leading into soft porn. It is nice to have an adult murder mystery novel that I can recommend to teens as well as their parents. Also I appreciate the integrity the author has instilled in her characters and the telling of the story. I love a good murder mystery and these stories are just that. Do give the series a look, if you like a good who done it you will not be sorry. Maybe Leo should return and buy the coffee shop setting up his own eatery/beanery. Ilook forward to #4!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Where's the Motive? 19 septembre 2012

I was enjoying the read and realizing that the end was coming fast and bam! the author threw a wrench, or a lifesaver to the plot out and all was well, and wrapped up within the chapter! Which was btw, jarring and abrupt.

*************Questions about ending ahead - very slightly spoilerish*****************

- or was it? The ending kind of trashed the book for me and I agree that there are two HUGE plot holes unresolved. No explanation at all as to why Sasha "had" to be on the case from her old firm, unless it was to show that $300,000 doesn't motivate her? but still a very weak explanation. And the case resolution, leaving it as it was - I'm not even sure that would be legal, much less ethical? Moreover, where's the motive??? And I think the timeline was off, too, on the "purchase." Why would that happen, or why would someone offer to have their truck searched then - one or the other does not add up? After my initial annoyance died down, I could clearly see that with the pretty endlessly detailed information we as readers had been given, the question was unanswerable. Plus 2+2 on actions did not add up to 4. Trying not to spoil anything here, but still express my frustration.

So, if the next one's ever offered free, OR the reviews say any of this was addressed, I'll be happy to read a new enjoyable character. If not, I feel ripped off - most definitely NOT the way I feel, or want to feel, when I read a good book!
