Présentation de l'éditeur

Prepper: An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances.

Survivalist: One who has personal or group survival as a primary goal in the face of difficulty, opposition, and especially the threat of natural catastrophe.

This collection of recipes is meant to do more than just make good food - it is also meant to give you creature comforts and real meals after a natural disaster forces you to turn to your rainy-day pantry. These dishes are meant to be made and stored long-term, hence their simplistic and typically dry ingredients.

All you need to do is fill 1-quart mason jars with each recipe's ingredients and keep the preparation instructions nearby. A warm bowl of macaroni and cheese, Spanish rice and beans or carrot cake pudding can be just a few cups of water, a pot and a grill away, whether the lights are on or not.

There are even simple water purification instructions that you can use - just in case you end up running out of bottled water and have to use tap or wild water.

Take these recipes on a campout and you might start using them at home even when the power is on!

This book is down-right DANGEROUS! She tells you that these jars will store for 3-5 years, but, what she does NOT tell you is that you need to vacuum seal the jars (either with a vacuum sealer or oxygen absorbers)!

MOST (if not all) of these recipes were created (and, copyrighted) by Chef Tess. If you want them for FREE (as well as MANY others), just go to the Chef Tess blog and click on "52 Method". If you want to PAY for recipes of this type, I would recommend that you buy the 2 books by "Stephanie Peterson" (aka Chef Tess). FYI...The reason these recipes call for freeze dried food, is because she was the executive chef at Honeyville for a number of years.

I was excited to read this book, since I pretty much stockpile shelf-stable/dehydrated meal recipes. Upon reading, I was disappointed, as I have found these recipes for free on a website selling Thrive products. Ripping off recipes you didn't create? Don't charge money for them.

Author Maggie Ingels has written a cookbook showing how to use your emergency preparedness foods you've stored for just in case. The author recommends using 1-quart Mason jars to store recipes prepared using her cookbook. In another section of her cookbook she explains how to freeze dry food at home. I understood part of her directions, but did not quite understand what she meant when telling about how to use a home freezer to prepare freeze dried foods.

Ingels also writes about how to sanitize water in emergency situations.

Some of the recipes you will find in her cookbook include:

Chili in a Jar
Cheeseburger Skillet
Chicken Salad
Mac and Cheese
Country Breakfast Skillet

Recommend with caveats given.

This book is just awesome!!! I live in coastal NC and this recipe book will be MOST helpful during the hurricane season months. You can't live on vienna sausages & potted meat alone for days on end. Thanks for the ideas!!!

This was so fun for me. I have been trying to learn some skills to keep our home prepared for any kind of emergency. This was practical and fairly easy to follow. It's a must have for those of you looking for a way to prepare for a emergency situation involving foods and food storage. I purchased a new food dehydrator and vacuum sealer for both bags and jars. This book fit my needs nicely. A plus was that this book allowed me to prepare meals in jars, desserts in jars, drink mixes bla, bla ( I'm sure you get the idea ) and make a case of dehydrated food for every family on my Christmas list. For the many new "prepper families" they love it. I wrap each thing and even make pet treats for a nice basket. Easy gift that won't be wasted. I have to say just go for it. It's easy after a good practice run or five. Lol
