3.0 étoiles sur 5 Decent outing for the crazy video game duo 31 août 2011

After enjoying both video games (especially the first), I decided to give this a try. I was able to get it used on Amazon for about $6 shipped.

I think if you are a fan of comics in general you may not like this one too much, I would say my interest in the characters and games made this more of an enjoyable read for me. The art is not my favorite and is more on the messy abstract side than anything else, it's definitely pulpy but not the direction I would have went with these characters.

The quality of the trade paper back is tight and nice, everything is shiny and stands out pretty well. The content is where the book both shines and fails. I understand it must be hard to take a primarily action game with a reservoir dogs-esque feel to it and turn it into a comic, but I would say about 80% of the pages are gun noises and shooting. That's fine and good the first few times, but it kind of loses it's steam rather quickly. Luckily the story is a decent one with lots of twists and turns, and a couple double crossings.

It's a quick read and shouldn't take more than an hour I would say. Again not my favorite choice of art, on occasion I wouldn't be able to tell very well which characters were which when compared to others without looking sort of hard at it. Overall I would say it's a decent and very action oriented read, but would probably only recommend this book to die hard fans of the games (like myself). Sort of in the same vein as the Army of Two comics, the books don't do the games much justice.

Overall Grade: C
Art: C
Presentation/Material: B+
Story: C+
Length: C

P.S. This is most definitely a mature read, and has tons of cursing and violence. Just an FYI.

I'm one of the few people who really enjoyed playing the KANE & LYNCH video game when it first came out several years ago, and I also had a lot of fun with the sequel even though it was rated as one of the "worst games of 2010" by various websites. That's just me, I have a singular opinion about these characters and the two video games that feature them. With that said, please know that I picked up the six issues of the KANE & LYNCH comic book with my mind already made up; I was determined to enjoy this story since I was so happy to see a comic book version of something I've already thoroughly enjoyed when it was merely an exciting first-person-shooter video game. The writing is pretty good since you quickly get the sense of chaos and confusion these two mercenaries constantly go through on a daily basis, just like in the game. The pace of events in this story is as rapid as the bullets flying out of an automatic weapon. Both Kane and Lynch are unable to remain in one place for more than a few pages before someone starts shooting at them again, and they travel from South America into the Caribbean Sea on their way to try and reach the safe harbor Miami only to get caught by international bounty hunters and flown to Europe where the fight continues in London and Berlin by the end of this exceedingly fast paced story. The dialog between the two main characters is accurate to how they interact in the video game, both Kane and Lynch despise each other and try to kill one another several times because of this general dislike. There's no honor amongst thieves and you never really feel any sympathy for either of them whenever they get shot or injured, nor do you feel cheerful when they escape sudden death once more after an impossible situation is overcome. The reader will fly through this story as quickly as Kane and Lynch cut through anyone who gets in their way. The artwork is very flat and two-dimensional, it's also a little bit sloppy but that only adds to the non-delicate activities that the main characters are forced to constantly participate in. If anyone reads this and they feel that KANE & LYNCH was a great video game then you'll definitely enjoy this quick read which tells what happened to the main characters right after they escaped at the end of the first game. Maybe IMAGE COMICS will create another printed version of these two crazy guys before the Hollywood movie comes out within the next couple of years.
