Présentation de l'éditeur

A killer with a penchant for inventive and macabre deaths challenges an FBI Agent with an equally unusual imagination and sense of humour. SA Ellie Conway works serial crime cases. When someone tries to kill her, it becomes obvious it’s linked to her after-hours pursuits in cyberspace. Matters become complicated when her assailant is found dead in the trunk of her car. Despite a plethora of crime scenes, no evidence can be found to identify a motive or perpetrator. The death toll rises and eventually includes those close to her. A chance remark provides the first real clue to unraveling the killer’s twisted goals. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

When Ellie receives a record twelve death threats in one night she doesn't worry about it, it's par for the course on the emotionally charged poetry chat site she co runs. When someone turns up at her door determined to teach her a lesson she calmly calls the police, has a smoke and settles to wait it out, gun in hand. What Ellie doesn't count on is that being the start of a terrifying ordeal with a body count worthy of Midsomer Murders.

I started this planning on reading a few chapters tonight, but have sat quietly grumbling at any attempts to communicate with me (by my husband or cats) until I finished. Quite a feat given I am reading with the glare of a laptop, not a cozy paperback.

Ellie is an FBI agent who co runs the poetry site with the lovely Mac and somehow the site seems to be at the core of a whole series of grisly deaths all targetted at Ellie. There are lots of lovely red herrings and I spent about half the book murmering "don't let it be X" while trying to figure out who the unsub is. Oh yeah and neat terms like unsub that I had assumed existed only in Criminal Minds. There is also refernce to Mark Harmon from NCIS, this is a girl after my own heart.

The pop culture references are great fun and give a good sense of who Ellie is (I think i'd like her), I placed her age at about 30 and from later comments I feel confident in that, after all to be a huge fan of the A Team and Starsky and Hutch. The chapter titles are also song titles, seeing how many you can place is a good game.

Cat balances out Ellie's basic stubborness and the toughness that goes with her career choice by showing us her vulnerable moments, when she isn't in control and allowing her not to have perfect control of her stomach at a grim crime scene. Yay for gun toting chicks who can laugh in the face of horrific death after wiping puke from their mouth, as opposed to the kind who always hold it in.

Don't start this late at night, you will need to finish it once you start, no way you can sleep without knowing who dunnit.

What really caught my attention from the get-go with this book was Cat's first-person writing style. Her style is so unique, unlike any other first-person writer I have ever read, and she has really made the protagonist, Ellie Conway come to life. With her quirky attitude and no nonsense approach, Ellie weaves her way through a serial killer case toward an end that totally surprised me. The cool thing here is that the serial killer's ultimate target is Ellie herself, and this has a way of keeping you completely on edge throughout the book. If you're looking for a thriller read that will keep you entertained to the very end then give Killerbyte a shot. I loved it.

With quirky and believable characters, Killerbyte is a crime thriller with a difference that engages the reader. The pace is good and the tension is kept up the whole time. Looking forward to further titles from this author. Terrorbyte
