By far the best book in the series so far. The tension, the passion, the will they, won't they, just sucked me right in and would not let go of me. (BOOK GIRL OF MUR-Y-CASTELL)

Series: Psy-Changeling #10

--One Sentence Summary--
Psy Sienna Lauren has wanted SnowDancer Alpha, Hawke, ever since her family's defection from the Net but he's always maintained distance -- until now.

--What are the Issues--
Hawke was a young pup when he found his mate and though they were only friends in their innocent youth, he knew they would grow into their love. So he was devastated when she was killed in an accident and he's grown up sure that he would never have a mate. He's used this distance to keep Sienna away because Hawke knows he's too old, jaded, and alpha for a young woman who grew up in a cage. Sienna was taken in by Ming Lebon as a young child when her cardinal power manifested as X-Fire. She's maintained ruthless control over every part of her life but Hawke makes that control shake. Sienna isn't interested in anyone else but she's not sure if she can handle the possessiveness of Hawke's wolf and her own power without something breaking.

--What I Liked and Didn’t Liked--
The Collapse of Silence -- This series has been building up to the fall of Silence and the separation of the Psy Council and this books has some very interesting developments in this story arc. I love how complex this series has gotten as the world has changed and started pushing at the edges of the accepted parameters. Things are really starting to amp up with the Psy and I can't wait to see where this goes. We also got more of the BlackSea changeling "pack" and I'm really excited to have some water changelings! I'm absolutely fascinated by this concept.

The Mating Bond -- Nalini Singh always writes an emotional story and Kiss of Snow is no exception, especially when it comes to Hawke and Sienna's romance. I wasn't sure how things would work out considering Hawke lost his mate as a child. It was obvious how deeply Sienna loves and she knew she couldn't stay away from Hawke even if she would never have all of him. Not only do they have their pasts creating obstacles but they have outside forces like Pure Psy and Ming creating problems. There was a lot of push and pull from Hawke and his possessive behavior is by far the strongest of any changeling Singh has written so far. Because of this, he tweaked my nerves every once in awhile, especially in the beginning before he gives into a relationship, but you can't doubt his devotion to the people he cares about.

Walker and Lara -- We also get a side romance with the Lauren family patriarch, Walker, and SnowDancer's healer, Lara. Walker has been a bit of a mystery man throughout as we've gotten to know the other Lauren family members. So I was really excited to get more info on Walker because he has that still waters run deep thing going on. He made Lara really work to get him to break his barriers but once he does, oh boy, did I love Walker. His secrets from his time in the Net are so sad and poignant and really reveal the true heart of Walker.

--Final Thoughts--
I'm a huge fan of the Psy-Changeling series and they just keep getting better for me. The romance is always deep and emotional, the world building complex, and her character's hope for a better life stirring.

Many reviewers have already given plot summaries so I won't bother. This is solely my opinion of the book, Kiss of Snow.

Nothing is worse than waiting, waiting and waiting for an installment in a series that is supposed to be a game changer only to have it be lackluster and boring. Kiss of Snow is not lackluster and it certainly is not boring there so much happening. This book lived up to the expectations for Hawk and Sienna and we get the bonus of Walker and Lara, Pure Psy and War, this book had it all.

The series just keeps getting better with Singh continually building upon the foundation she set with Slave to Sensation. The world and all the inhabitants are flesh and blood people who an individuals and not the same characters with different names and similar stories. Kiss of Snow like each book before pulls you in and doesn't let go until the end of the book when you close the cover and then race to the computer to find out when the next installment is to be released.

I put off reading this book since it was a little longer, I was very busy at work and already suffer from procrastination that is only exacerbated when I get involved in a book. Once I picked it up and began reading, I couldn't put it down.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Everything I've Been Waiting For...And More 31 mai 2011

Hawke's book has been highly anticipated by me since I first read Slave to Sensation, the first book in this wonderful Psy/Changeling series. Over the past year I've tried to subdue that anticipation as much as possible - sure that it could only lead to disappointment.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

This is the story I've been waiting for. The sexual tension between Hawke and Sienna is nearly explosive. Hawke doesn't take too long to come around to the decision that his wolf has been pushing him towards - pursue Sienna. It might take a little creativity on Sienna's part, but once he does; Oh boy. There are a few `almost' moments, where Hawke and Sienna's courting is interrupted by everything from injuries to Psy scouting parties to outright attacks, and you could feel the frustration, as well as the responsibility in each of those moments.

Hawke was the same alpha that I've always loved. The alpha who has feral wolves claiming him as their own alpha. In this dangerous war with the Psy, Hawke barely has time to set aside his responsibilities. So he never does. He and Sienna steal small moments, with the help of their Pack, and they don't give up on what they have together.

Learning more about Sienna, and what she has grown up with, what she's grown up expecting - to die before she reaches 25 - was heart-wrenching at times. And yet she always managed to impress me with the way she's managed to become such a strong young woman. She is absolutely more than a match for Hawke. But she's so much more than a perfect match for him, she's a fierce, beautiful, determined, resourceful woman that's not afraid to take chances with her heart, and will protect those she cares about, no matter the cost to herself.

There's an additional side story between Lara, SnowDancer's healer and Walker Lauren. It's an incredibly sweet story that I was happy to read. There's a lot of focus on the Lauren's in general in Kiss of Snow, with more of one of my favorite characters (Judd) showing up quite a bit too.

By now there are around 50 distinct characters that we've met more deeply than passing by in Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling world. She continues to give each of them a voice that is solely their own. They act within their character all the time and are each noticeably different. Combine that with a world that continues to grow while following its own rules and Ms. Singh continues to blow away all my expectations.

Kiss of Snow satisfied every one of my expectations, and then some. It's a sexy, sweet, enthralling story from beginning to end. I literally could not put it down from the moment I started it and was up late into the night inhaling this story. There's no end in sight for my love of Nalini Singh's writing, and I'm eagerly anticipating her next release.

Of all the "romances" in this series, the romance of Wolfe and Sienna was the most predictable and the most drawn out. I'm sure that Nalini Singh thinks she's foreshadowing in her books but it's more like foretelling. I could see all of this coming a mile a way from the first time she introduced the Lauren family. Also, since most of these books are incredibly formulaic, I could tell that the big obstacle that separated the two would be overcome by the end of the book. Because it *always is!* At this point in the series, the only reason I'm reading these books is because I have unanswered questions and I still actually like the world Nalini Singh has built around these two dimensional characters who have pretty much nothing but sex and "romance" on their minds.

I have been waiting for the Sienna/Hawke book since the 5th book of the series. I was not disappointed and with a little help from Drew and Indigo the couple was able to make some tremendous strides. Hawke is convinced that without a mating bond to give he will never make a solid attachment to any woman, let alone the one woman who seems to call to every cell in his body.

-- “I almost let the best thing that ever happened to me slip away because I was hung up on ideas of what I ‘should’ want. Sometimes there is no ‘should,’ there’s only a single chance to grab on to happiness.”

Hawke still mistakes Sienna for being too young and based off of her age alone that might be true, but her childhood was stolen by Ming and with the power she holds inside of her she hasn’t been a child for a long time. Hawke is trying so hard to distance himself from the increasing need for Sienna, good thing she has Drew on her side to give her a little advice at just the right time.

-- “He hugged her again, before she could put some distance between them. Then the most sneaky wolf in the den lowered his voice and whispered, “But you’ve got an advantage, sweetheart. You’re already in his head. And you know how to mess with it.”

For so long they have spent time antagonizing each other, pushing buttons trying to create distance and friction and that is all about to change. I loved the relationship parts of this book in the series. Not just between Sienna and Hawke but also to my surprise between Walker and Lara. I didn’t think another couple in this book would hold my attention but I was almost as excited for Walker’s story as Sienna’s. Walker is like a father to Sienna so Kiss of Snow was more about the entire Lauren family than just the dynamic between the Alpha of Snowdancer and Sienna.

Sienna’s power is building and soon it could consume her and possibly the entire area around her. There is also the threat of Pure Psy led by Henry Scott who are building an offense and almost ready to strike against the Snowdancer pack. I loved how Sienna’s character was able to show how strong she really is and her understanding of warfare from Ming’s training as a child. It is easy to forget that she is merely 19 and it is apparent she is a woman to be reckoned with and every bit as alpha as Hawke.

After reading ten books in the same series sometimes themes can start to repeat themselves but I think that Kiss of Snow definitely is one in the series I’d read again.
