Présentation de l'éditeur

The noncompetitive self-defense technique known as Krav Maga originally began in the Israeli Defense Force, of which author Boaz Aviram has been a long-standing member. Krav Maga combines fighting techniques from a wide range of martial arts, from boxing to jiujitsu to judo, and teaches its students invaluable lessons in optimizing self-defense, maintaining awareness, and striking most effectively. Boaz Aviram provides sound information on how to best tackle your opponent in the quickest and most efficient way. Some of these methods include:

• Preemptive counterattacks
• Using your opponent’s most vulnerable areas to your advantage
• Paying attention to possible escape routes
• Using common objects at hand for self-defense

Krav Maga offers the original philosophy and application of hand-to-hand training as it started out, and Aviram scrupulously explains the origins of each technique to help the reader best comprehend it. This book provides over 150 techniques with over one thousand photos to help you get started in the world of self-defense, self-awareness, and maximum efficiency.

HASH(0x9065f084) étoiles sur 5 A Much Needed Organizational Update On the Original Manuscript 27 juillet 2014
Par Shawn Kovacich - Publié sur
Format: Broché

Since this book is really just an updated and much better edited and organized edition of the original manuscript, I am including most of my original review of the first manuscript as it is still relevant to this edition. However, I would like to emphatically state that this edition is a much needed update on the original that was in dire need of editing and a much more concise and organized layout of text and photographs, which this edition does splendidly and really takes it to a whole other level with the addition of color photographs.

Well I guess I should start off this review by first informing you, the reader of this review, that I proudly hold the coveted distinction of being the very first Krav Maga instructor personally certified by Boaz Aviram, the author of this book and the producer of his seven disc DVD series. That not withstanding, I assure you that my being one of his students holds no bearing whatsoever on my review, as a matter of fact, I am probably more critical of it than I would be if I did not hold this position. So with that being said, on with the review.

The main criteria that I judge a technique based book upon is the quality and quantity of information that is provided and how relevant it is in relation to the subject matter it is purporting to be providing. In other words if a book is telling me it is the next best thing to sliced bread concerning Krav Maga, then it darn well better deliver upon its promise. And in this particular instance, it does just that.

Boaz provides a wealth of information concerning the principles and philosophy of Krav Maga as taught to the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) soldiers in a curriculum designed to teach them how to effectively use Krav Maga on the battlefield in as little as 21 hours of instruction with some soldiers receiving an additional 8 to 12 hours of instruction depending upon their individual units needs. Now of course this material must be practiced correctly and as many times as it takes before becoming instinctive in nature in order for it to reach its true potential in both effectiveness and efficiency. It is plainly obvious that the person that practices the techniques correctly for say two weeks is not going to be anywhere near as good as the individual that has practiced for years.

I have always believed and often stated that the principles and concepts behind a technique are far more important than the technique itself and that is something that you will find throughout this entire book, although you will find an abundance of technique never forget that which is more important. This is something that even the great military genius Sun Tzu expounds upon in his famous writing, The Art of War, which follows this very same philosophy of principles and concepts being of more importance than actual techniques.

This book contains a lot of information on a wide array of topics from basic striking and kicking, to defenses against a variety of attacks ranging from unarmed attacks, to chokes and holds, knife and gun attacks, and pretty much everything in between. This book should also be used in conjunction with Boaz's DVD set entitled, Pure Krav Maga - Self Defense Mastery, which is also available here on Amazon.

Now do I agree with absolutely everything in this book? Of course not! And those things that I don't agree with are more of a technique based issue and not the more important issue pertaining to the various principles and concepts. An earlier book that is I believe one of the first to showcase Krav Maga and one that the author also appeared in is called, Fighting Fit.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning Krav Maga as it was, and I presume still is, taught to the IDF in Israel.

HASH(0x9065f0d8) étoiles sur 5 Boaz Aviram's Krav Maga 17 octobre 2014
Par Benjamin Cheng - Publié sur
Format: Broché
Gems are treasures because they are rare and remained hidden until they are discovered. Boaz Aviram's improved book, Krav Maga: Use Your Body As A Weapon, is indeed a gem when you discovered the secrets within it. Forget about the glossy showy "Krav Maga" books offered out there because within the modest layout and photographs of Boaz's book lies the truest and most effective form of Krav Maga - this is as authentic as it can get!

Who are you currently LEARNING Krav Maga from?
Or, who do you INTEND to learn Krav Maga from?

Just google the name "Krav Maga" and you'll stumble upon countless experts claiming mastery over this self defense system. And if you are looking at this product, you probably:
* already know a bit about Krav Maga, or
* want to further improve on your Krav Maga knowledge and skills, or
* planning to expand your already concrete self defense and/or martial arts skills set by supplementing with Krav Maga.
In any case, this book is a must.

Krav Maga, which means "contact fighting" in Hebrew, was created by Imi Lichtenfeld, as the ultimate efficient way of training combat techniques to the Israeli Armed Forces. By that, you'd already guessed that Krav Maga is originally an offensive military combative system. For civilian applications, it's modified into an efficient self defense system by Boaz Aviram. And amongst all the martial arts in the world, Krav Maga leans the most towards Martial [Note: the two components of martial arts are function (Martial) and form (Arts). As opposed to Krav Maga being heavily inclined towards Martial, martial arts like Tai Chi lean most towards Arts. Since Krav Maga focuses so highly on function and efficiency, it means Krav Maga can be used to impart the most practical aspects in the shortest time possible - making it one of the most ideal self defense methods]. Imi's successor Eli Evikzar passed the Krav Maga legacy directly to one Boaz Aviram. So today, only one expert can truly claim that he was there from the very beginning. Boaz Aviram is without a shadow of doubt the third generation in lineage of true Krav Maga mastery.

Boaz Aviram's new book, is a systematic presentation of all the original Krav Maga (now coined as Pure Krav Maga) techniques. Each technique is explained and taught true to the spirit of Krav Maga - honest, straight to the point, efficient More importantly the main Krav Maga CONCEPTS (eg Pre-emptive Strike) behind the techniques are also imparted.

In addition, the reader will be rewarded with the historical insights and philosophies of the martial art. The book no only serves as the complete Krav Maga curriculum, but also as a historic log. And because of that, it's a treasure to any Krav Maga beginner, expert practitioner and even master. If you were to compare some other works by other "masters" or "experts", you probably only get the HOW's after stripping away the unnecessary hype, the distracting costumes and the extravagant pictorials. In Boaz Aviram's work, the reader will not only get plenty of the HOW's, but also a lot of the WHY's. The techniques are broken down to a series of detailed steps, so that perfect execution of the techniques can be followed through easily and subsequently mastered. The important points of each step are explained - like re-positioning, body weight shifting, strength sources and much more are generously shared. In this book, basic principles were always emphasized; a vital element which I believe is missing in many other books or classes.

Following through the book is akin to having Boaz Aviram himself in front of you - the grandmaster's sincere character emanates through as each move is clearly demonstrated though a master and student relationship.

The book is a true window into the world of Krav Maga, a rich culmination of skills and knowledge of three generations of masters (from Imi, to Eli and through Boaz). It's an indispensible learning tool for anyone who is interested in Krav Maga... PURE Krav Maga.

Thank you for reading.

HASH(0x9065f510) étoiles sur 5 The Gold Standard for Krav Maga and Self-Defense Manuals 3 juillet 2014
Par Jonathan M. - Publié sur
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
The excellent first edition of this book was self-published by Master Sergeant Boaz Aviram who was 3rd in line as Chief Instructor of the Israeli Defense Force Fighting Fitness Academy. This new edition published by Skyhorse Publishing is even better! The grammatical and typographical errors have all been corrected, and the photographs are now larger and in color. This encyclopedic work lays out clearly for the reader the highly efficient method used by the Israeli Defense Force to train its soldiers in Krav Maga (or Close Combat). This is the single most comprehensive and in-depth treatise on modern hand-to-hand combat ever available. If one is looking for a single text to explain both the mindset required to survive a violent encounter AND the techniques necessary to triumph over one's adversary, look no further. This book has set not just a standard to be met but THE Gold Standard for martial arts and self-defense manuals. Well done MSG Aviram!

This book written by Boaz Aviram is a great resource. My background is combat JuJutsu and have been studying and researching Krav Maga for the past two years. I've been reading the book and like the way he presents the information. He recommends the DVDs to complement the study and training. I plan to obtain them as well. I recommend this book for those of you interested in the subject like I am. Krav Maga is one of the best systems of Urban self defense ( Combat) that can synchronize with many systems. It is direct and takes care of conflicts fast, but only if you dedicate the time to learn and develop the reflex and muscle memory from these simple moves.

One thing that makes Krav Maga truly unique is that, much like modern Israel, it's a young system. This means that Krav Maga practitioners still have access to one of the system's founders. Imagine if a judoka could simply shoot a quick email to Kano Jigoro or a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu player could ask Helio or Carlos Gracie a quick question. Thankfully to all those who would like to master Krav Maga, they have access to Boaz Aviram's magnum opus and, indeed, Mr. Aviram himself.

Mr. Aviram was an Israeli national martial arts champion (and black belt) years before he ever heard the words "Krav Maga." After mastering more traditional martial arts and proving himself in competition, Mr. Aviram joined the founders of Krav Maga -- Imi Lichtenfield and Eli Avikzar -- to create a completely new system. Their idea was to lift the veil of secrecy, distill the traditional martial arts down to their most effective elements, and put forth a brand new philosophy of self-defense -- including the radical notion that a martial art can be learned quickly.

Unfortunately, as Mr. Aviram is so quick to point out, Krav Maga is straying from its roots. Modern Krav Maga schools often focus on fitness and aggression, and are a mere shadow of the highly-technical and efficient system that Mr. Aviram helped found. He wrote this book as a manual and roadmap from one of the founders and masters of the system. If you want to learn *Krav Maga* -- in it's original, unadulterated form -- then this is the book for you.
