1.0 étoiles sur 5 Scam 19 décembre 2012

Do not buy this self published piece of trash. I foolishly purchased both the LEED GA and BD plus C study guides. Both guides are identical except for the last twenty pages. Both books are completely incomprehensible and seem to be nothing more than some hack cut and paste job from USGBC manuals. Chen does appear to a licensed architect in california, but I would not be surprised if that is a scam as well. I'm parara phashisng here because i can not bring my self to pick up this trash again but one of the mnemonics is: " Caroline does business as so sweet hot love" I will be returning this garbage for refund as soon as i return from my christmas vaction.

I give this 3 stars because I give it 5 in some categories and 1 in others, hence a middle-ground 3-star rating. First the positives...I used this book heavily, along with greenexamprep practice exams, and looked at the USGBC reference guide sparsely, and got a 185 on my first try. The author does a great job of extracting what you need to know, saving you the trouble of studying the behemoth reference guide.

With that said, if you are at all visual (as a lot of architects are) this book is horribly designed, which makes it difficult to digest a lot of the information. I mean really, it looks like it was typed in Word and then printed at Kinkos. Charts span multiple pages, there are no headers/footers/tabs to let you know which category you are in, or which credit you are on. If it had a good redesign in InDesign, I would give it an easy 5 stars (Gang Chen- let me know if you want to hire me to redesign your book). I ended up writing everything out on my own flash cards, and graphicizing a lot of the information so I could understand it better.

I would also say that to make the claim, 'If you memorize this book, you will pass the exam" is a little like saying "If you memorize the entire USGBC Reference Guide you will pass the exam." Ya, of course, but not really realistic. Also, the mnemonics in the book are not helpful whatsoever and they borderline on the ridiculous...best to just ignore them.

So worth it? I'd say the book is worth $30, not $80, but it did help me pass.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 PASSED on FIRST TRY, ONLY USED THIS GUIDE. 5 novembre 2013

This is the best study guide HANDS DOWN. If you're serious about passing the LEED AP BD&C exam on your first try, this is the one you've been looking for! I bought Mr. Chen's LEED GA exam guide 2 months ago and passed it on the first try as well. I purchased the 650 page USGBC reference guide and Mr. Chen's BD&C study guide. I never opened the USGBC reference guide, only studied from Mr. Chen's study guide. I followed Mr. Chen's instructions and studied the guide for 2 weeks (yes, I have full-time job). I did ignore the mnemonics, not my learning style (makes it more confusing to me). The exam was not easy, but I prepared and stuck to this material. I am not a good test taker by no means. I reviewed the technical data of the guide about 6 times and ignored everything else I had read or heard about the exam. Here's a piece of advise that I picked up from this book, spend less time on practice tests and more time studying! I have a subscription to a web exam simulator (rated the best) and only did about 100 questions, until I realized that I was wasting my valuable time. Find a good book and stick to it. This is also a great reference guide to use on everyday projects. Review the material, try to understand it, then try to memorize it through repetition. I would like to shake your hand and say THANKS AGAIN MR. GANG CHEN !!!

Hey, I passed the exam with flying colors . . . . this book works. You do need to read it several times and use a highlighter.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Too many factual errors. Better to study the reference guide. 16 novembre 2013
Par Zak - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is a must-have if you don't mind a poorly written guide with many factual errors. Since this is the 2nd Edition I think that it would be reasonable to have expected the author to correct the many typographical errors. But those can be overlooked. What cannot be overlooked are the many factual errors littered throughout the guide. Examples include omission of the 3rd path for achieving EA Credit 5 (commitment to share usage data through Energy Star Portfolio Manager on PI Form 1) and incorrect timeframe for implementation of the curriculum to achieve ID Credit 4, School as a Teaching Tool.

While most of the information is correct, the errors undermined my confidence in the accuracy of the entire guide. In the end I relied on other sources. In retrospect I've decided that the best study tool is actually the LEED BD+C Reference Guide. Study it and make your own notes. You'll be MUCH better off.

All the same goes for the Mock Exam. Make sure you back-check everything. One or two missed questions can be the difference between passing the exam and not.
