Special Deluxe Collector s Edition / Fully Remastered Sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / 12 page full colour booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork and band involvement. BATON ROUGE ISN T exactly the first port of call when talking AOR. The area is primarily known for cajun and zydeco music, so it may surprise you to know that early 80s melodic rockers Le Roux and Toto both had their roots in Louisiana. Toto s lead vocalist Bobby Kimball was born and raised there and, coincidently, had sung in an early formation of Le Roux before departing for the west coast. Originally going under the rather cumbersome handle of Louisiana s Le Roux, the band cut two exploratory albums, very much in the style that you might expect any band to have sounded like coming from that region. However, by their classic Up album their style had changed radically. Taking its cue from the great melodic rock bands of the day, such as Journey, Foreigner and Styx, the album showcased a keen love of melodic hard rock. Originally issued in 1982, Last Safe Place , produced in-house by bassist Leon Medica, took the template and moved it one stage closer towards AOR nirvana. Recorded for their new label RCA, the album satisfied on a number of levels, and is packed out with sophisticated, memorable songs, and killer hooks. Indeed, the track Nobody Said It Was Easy became something of a hit, reaching #18 on the Billboard charts and establishing the band as supreme contenders for the AOR crown.

HASH(0x9ba93738) étoiles sur 5 last great album 4 janvier 2004

Format: CD
For the unitiated Le Roux has been around for awhile making fine soft rock in a southern style.
Most southerners first heard the band on the cut "New Orleans Ladies" which remains a fabulous tune and a rare opportunity to hear the word "sashay", defined as a quite stylish feminine gait.
The album charted but not by much. Followed by the spaghetti cover lp featuring "Window Eyes" Le Roux continued to toil in anonymity except for those loyal southerners. Next was the "up" lp which is now briefly available as an import. It was nice and featured "Roll Away the Stone" as a single. It sold about like the others.
The band then left Capitol and produced "last safe place" for RCA. To the surprise of all it produced a top 40 single "Nobody Said It Was Easy" sounding a lot like Little River Band. The title cut "Last Safe Place" was released and charted in the 60's which was unfortunate because it's probably the finest rock cut the band produced. Also check out "Make Believe" on this disc; beautiful ballad.
This is an excellent disc, more complete than all predecessors and far better than their last release on RCA. It's also impossible to find so if you can actually order it thru Amazon break out the charge card and pony up the $22.00. It's worth it.
Also recommended, the Bayou DeGradable set as partner to this cd. Together they represent a fine ballad band that occasionally rocks. They just never quite got their due.

HASH(0x9ba93888) étoiles sur 5 A pretty good 80's AOR album 8 octobre 2004
Par William J. Eichelberger - Publié sur
Format: CD
I remember this album getting a decent amount of airplay locally when I was in college, so I hunted up a copy for myself. Not a bad album considering the musical climate of the early 80's. It's definitely not a $40 album, but I only paid $16 for it so I consider it a good deal. All of the Le Roux albums are available again domestically on cd at Don't pay big bucks for an import when you can buy it from the boys themselves.

I loved this album (and still have the LP) back in 1982. 'Nobody said it was Easy' is probably the best known song from the recording. I think it got to #2 on the BillBoard 100 ratings back then. For those who went through high school in the early 1980's, you will enjoy hearing this again. If you are not familiar with LeRoux, you won't be disappointed in this recording. It is truly great that ALL of the songs are now available!

HASH(0x9ba93a44) étoiles sur 5 One of Leroux's finest 21 juillet 2007

Format: CD
This is probably my favorite of the Leroux albums from the years with Jeff Pollard on vocals. Most of the songs are very strong. I think the best tracks on here are "Nobody said it was easy", "It doesn't matter" which is a pretty good ballad, "The last safe place" which is fast pace and happens to be the title track, and "Addicted" which the band did a video of and received a fair amount of air play. This was the last album with Pollard on vocals. He was then replaced with Fergie Frederikson who stayed for only one album before the band broke up for many years. Fergie went on to sing one album in 1984 with the band Toto.

I purchased this album for one particular song and found that I liked almost every other song as well as it or better.

80s memories, Southern Rock style.
