Compared to most business projectors here are a few things that I noticed immediately.
Size: It's quite small. Compared to the projectors I have at work, The HD141X is small and light.
Design: I picked up the Glossy Black projector on sale. While i would have preferred a white one, it was also $100 more. Being the bargain hunter that I am, I couldn't justify spending an additional hundred dollars on color. Before i received the projector, i thought this was going to be a problem. My ceiling is white and i was afraid this would be a sore on my home's aesthetic. The size and design sure did prove me wrong. My wife was convinced she didn't want a black projector on the ceiling, but once it was installed, it actually looks nice.
Performance: It's great. Any projector near this price point will not look as good as this one. It displays 1080p. One thing to look out for when purchasing a projector is a "support" and "display" resolution. A lot of projectors will support 1080p, but will not display 1080 ie they will scale the image. The HD141X is the best 1080p projector at it's price point.
Now from the prospective of a professional projector, the brightness is less than stellar. Don't plan on using this in a bright room. In a dark room, however, the image is stunning.
And the fan... It can really ramp up at times. It may even become distracting during quiet scenes. I usually listen with the volume high enough to drain out the noise.
Despite the two critical items, i've decided to give this a 5 Star review for the price to performance. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to any of my friends and family.
It's currently displaying at 120" from about 14' away.
I'm a huge television guy. I have multiple 60 inch tv screens and other tv's and plenty of electronics around the house. I'm very picky when it comes to image quality but this projector was reviewed well and it was at a great price.
I purchased this setup with a 120 inch motorized projection screen from home gear. It's not a bad setup. The quality of the projector in my opinion is about a 7 or 8 out of ten. The quality is good/great. It in no way is amazing. It doesn't compare to an LED or plasma but I feel that's the compromise you take with a huge projected screen. Colors look washed a bit. They aren't vibrant or anything. I have now used my xbox one, ps4, xbox one and cable box on this projector set up. The best looking visuals are on the consoles and the worst is cable. I believe most cable tops out at 720P/1080i and I think that's what the lowered image quality comes from. I think this is overall a great startup projector but it's not for someone who is willing to compromise image quality and can afford a 1000 dollar + Projector. It's is definitely worth the price though.
To put my review in bullet form:
Good image quality
Decent color performance
I haven't noticed rainbow effect
Light fan noise( in my opinion and I'm pretty picky when it comes to noise)
Decent mono stereo for someone who is mobile
looks best in bright scenes
Ambient light really messes with the image quality ( I recommend a good drapes setup)
Blacks are dark gray and not true blacks( expected)
dark scenes can look a little less vibrant
Colors can look washed a bit
Not the greatest for cable or anything less than 1080P
After having this projector for a few months I decided to sell it. The color performance was really the one thing that bothered me. I decided to try out the benq w1075 for a couple hundred more and I'm so impressed with the benq that I had to readjust my optoma review. The optoma is great but my benq is amazing and if accurate color is an issue to you then read reviews and consider purchasing a benq.
