All recipes are really nice and mouthwatering.

Still, those recipes that can be found online are the best, and the additional ones in the book are not really worth buying the book.

However, the layout of the book is really nice, and it is well written. What I really like is that there are detailed information of why she does certain things in certain ways. For instance, she explains why she puts the chocolate lava cake in the fridge before baking and these were things I did not know before.

For someone who likes cooking with books in hand I recommend buying it. For others who check recipes online it is maybe not necessary buying it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A must have for cooks but buy the UK edition 3 juin 2015

I've made many recipes including the chouquettes (choux pastry puffs), cheese and potato nests, egg in ramekins, lavender chicken, and cherry compote French toast, all of which will now be recipe staples. They were simple to make yet really impressive looking and tasty. This is my first cookbook by her, but I'm certain I'll buy her others. There are a lot of unique recipes I want to try and I appreciate the section in the back dedicated to staple recipes for chicken stock, mayonnaise, and vinegarettes, which every cook should learn. Her book has a combination of beginner and intermediate recipes, so new or seasoned cooks should find something appealing. The TV series that accompanied this book is equally delightful. Some French ingredients may be hard to find, but she gives substitutes, which may be easier to find.

Buy a digital scale for the dessert recipes in the UK edition. I own both the US and UK editions and the original version is much better. The recipes turn out much better when the ingredients are measured by weight rather than volume.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Fun little book ... 10 septembre 2013

I need to preface my review by saying I love those things small: small apartments, small cars and, yes, small kitchens with extremely small and compact appliances. I find it an adventure to prepare dinner using a toaster oven. I mean, anybody can cook in a traditional kitchen with all the gadgets but it takes talent and skill to prepare a meaningful and memorable meal in a tiny space. It was just that angle that attracted me to this book. Most (or all) of these recipes were prepared in the author's tiny Paris kitchen. Je salue cet exploit! The artwork and general design layout of this cookbook may be one of the best arrangements I've ever seen: very original and very fresh! She uses French [language] frequently throughout the book but writes in such a way that it's very easy to decipher the meanings for those that don't speak Francais. And, she provides "the best" glossary in the back of the book for anything that remains in question. Little Miss Khoo is fun to read and I am particularly impressed with how she kept her ingredients fairly simple and easy. I get lost with recipes requiring be coups of ingredients but you won't find that complication in this book. Some of the ingredients are a little foreign to me, but this IS a French cookbook. If I wanted an American experience I should buy an American cookbook, right? I am happy to add this little book to my very restrictive collection! Not just any book gets to stay in my kitchen! Great job, Rachel!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Good starter for those new to French cooking or even cooking 14 novembre 2013

I really have enjoyed learning from this little Kindle book. Simple recipes. I love using a scale for cooking I think weight is more accurate than spoonfuls so I look for recipes that use weight. The Kindle edition is in spoonfuls and cups.. I made the chicken dumplings (Quenelles) with soup, the husband loved them, I think I will like them more with the white sauce (bechamel) and cheese. The chouquettes were yummy (I bought the pearl sugar here on Amazon). The madeleines are amazing (I bought the tin here on Amazon) These is a cheese recipe that everyone can make quickly, it's scrumptious. There are a lot of basic sauces and dishes. I'm very rural and landlocked so fresh seafood isn't always an option It's a nice little book with lovely photo's. I have all 6 of her tv shows on my dvr and use them in addition. If I had the chance to live in a tiny, tiny little apartment in the nice part of downtown Paris for a season, I'd be on the next plane out! These are more approachable than some of Laura Calder's although I love her work as well. For instance, baguettes brushed with extra virgin olive oil sprinkled with grated chocolate and toasted in the oven. Tasty and easy. This isn't low fat so be ready to ramp up the exercise. Good starter on French Food.

While this book will soon be available in the U.S. minus the metric measurements, I couldn't wait after seeing the BBC series via online torrent sites. The book is not a 100 percent mirror image of the recipes you see in the show (slight little differences in recipes), but it is so very close and gives you much more detail to compliment the TV series.

Beautifully displayed with a photo of every recipe (unlike the majority of books from Rachel RAY who has to be a cheap s*** and cut quality for the sake of profits), THIS Rachel went to the trouble to warn would-be chefs with little hints to avoid disasters (as in her exquisite creme brûlée recipe).

Never prepared French food? Rachel includes a great 'French Basics' section in the back of the book that explains the importance of sauces and dressings and gives over 10 different recipes (Hollandaise, Mayonnaise, Bechamel, etc.). Oh, and there's a weight and temperature conversion chart in the back for those who don't want to wait for the U.S. version of this book and get on with the U.K. edition.

All in all, a great book if you want to try your hand at basic French food with a touch of British flair. Well done, Rachel Khoo!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Great intro to French cooking - lots of eggs and cream 30 juillet 2013

This is a very beautiful cookbook with well-written instructions. I am a vegetarian knowing full well that there would be recipes centered around meat and seafood. There are still quite a few recipes suitable for vegetarians, however most of those recipes contain a lot of eggs and cream. Being a novice to French cuisine, I had an inkling the food would be rich. I just didn't realize it was THAT rich. That's not an insult to the cookbook author, it's just a general observation of French cuisine. With that being said, I still like the cookbook. Her instructions for poaching an egg are spot on. Her quiche recipe is simple and perfect. My husband and I both think her quiche recipe is the best we've ever tasted, better than Tartine's deep dish complicated quiche recipe. I've also made her beet and goat cheese salad, and her savory goat cheese and pistachio "cake". I'm not saying every recipe that didn't contain meat, poultry or seafood were souffles or quiches. There's a wonderful vegetable soup recipe, a recipe for lentils and beets, the root salad is lovely, among a few others. I gave this cookbook four stars because I was hoping for a few more vegetarian recipes that weren't centered around eggs and cream. Knowing all of this, I would still buy this book.
