AC/DC Live From The Atlantic Studios (1997 US 8-track CD recorded live on 7th December 1977 at the Atlantic Recording Studios in New York City specifically for radio broadcast with stunning versions of early classics including Live Wire WholeLotta Rosie Rocker and more. Comes with picture sleeve and back insert - this comes from the Bonfore box set and was not available separately one of the best live recordings of the Bon Scott period of the band)

In more recent times this recording appeared on a number of bootleg CDs, all of which were sourced from the original 1977 promotional LP or copies thereof. It wasn't until 1997 that the show saw an official public release as part of the "Bonfire" CD box set.
However. If you have an interest in sound quality it's important to note how the 1997 release differs from the bootlegs. With the former the band went back to the original multi-tracks and completely remixed the performance, creating a modern sounding mastering with the guitars pushed right up in the mix and a whole load of compression unleashed upon the volume. In comparison to the original 1977 mix the end result is VERY loud with severely crushed dynamics, a huge change in sonic presentation. Personally I would recommend seeking out an unofficial release which uses the original 1977 mix, the compression on the 1997 remix kills the listenability of the album for me. However, if you're not bothered by loud masterings the official remix will probably do you just fine.
That issue aside, the performance itself is classic AC/DC. Taking place between the release of Let There Be Rock and the recording of Powerage it caught the band on top form, firing on all cylinders.
To digress briefly, it has to be said that Live From The Atlantic Studios offers a more accurate representation of how the band sounded on stage during this period than their first official live release, If You Want Blood, recorded a mere 5 months later. If You Want Blood was compiled from more than one show and suffered various after-the-fact tampering, including the use of a studio backing track for one song (I won't ruin it for you by saying which!). In comparison Live At Atlantic Studios is simply a straightfoward recording of exactly what AC/DC performed live for those 45 minutes in a New York studio in December 1977.
This is a 5 star album, no question, but because I'm grading the offical release I have to drop my rating somewhat as a direct consequence of my dislike of the mastering.
Tracklist; Live Wire, Problem Child, High Voltage, Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be, Dog Eat Dog, The Jack, Whole Lotta Rosie, Rocker.
