Présentation de l'éditeur

Set in the same sprawling fantasy world as her FitzChivalry Farseer novels, Robin Hobb’s Liveship Traders trilogy unravels the story of a once-thriving city, a glorious and mythic species facing extinction, and the clan whose destiny is intertwined with both. Prepare to be swept away in this breathtaking eBook bundle:
Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships—rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. Now the fortunes of one of Bingtown’s oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia.
For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy. For Althea’s young nephew, wrenched from his religious studies and forced to serve aboard the ship, the Vivacia is a life sentence. But the fate of the ship—and the Vestrits—may ultimately lie in the hands of an outsider: the ruthless buccaneer captain Kennit, who plans to seize power over the Pirate Isles by capturing a liveship and bending it to his will.
Praise for Robin Hobb and the Liveship Traders Trilogy
“Fantasy as it ought to be written . . . Robin Hobb’s books are diamonds in a sea of zircons.”—George R. R. Martin
“A truly extraordinary saga . . . The characterizations are consistently superb, and [Hobb] animates everything with love for and knowledge of the sea.”Booklist
“A major work of high fantasy, reading like a cross between Tolkien and Patrick O’Brian . . . one of the finest fantasy sagas to bridge the millennium.”Publishers Weekly
“Rich, complex . . . [Hobb’s] plotting is complex but tightly controlled, and her descriptive powers match her excellent visual imagination. But her chief virtue is that she delineates character extremely well.”Interzone

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Hobb's best works in the Farseer world so far. 7 juin 2014

I loved the Farseer trilogy and yet was often disappointed with Fitz's frequent bouts of depression and self-loathing. There is none of that in the characters of the Liveship trilogy. Quite the contrary, the protagonists as well as the antagonists are all self-assured, strong characters. The concept of the Liveships is brilliant and unique in epic fantasy. There is non-stop action along with the well realized characterizations, and the many story lines make it a complex tale as well. Robin Hobb's brilliance as one of the greatest of all epic fantasy authors really shines forth in this series.

This Liveship trilogy is set in the Farseer world but is a completely new story with new characters, and occurs in many of the far-off places that are merely mentioned in the Farseer tales. It is a tale of the sea, with sea battles and sea monsters, but a lot of action occurs on land as well. Of course this trilogy also begins the story of the dragons, and sets the background for the Rainwilds series. As such it is an essential, rich and large part of the ongoing Farseer tale, and not to be missed by fans of this great epic fantasy adventure.

And by the way, the book that started it all in this world, Assassin's Apprentice, is now available for only 99c for Kindle at the link below. This is a great deal for everyone who has considered finding out what all the praise for the Farseer books is all about.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 One of the most engrossing, immersive and satisfying stories I've ever read. 5 août 2014

One of the most engrossing, immersive and satisfying stories I've ever read. Having read the Farseer & Tawny Man trilogies before starting this series, I must say I think enjoyed it even more than I would have had I not. I'm completely enamored with the world and characters Robin Hobb creates, and feel as if I'm actually there witnessing every moment. Once I finish devouring everything she's written as Robin Hobb, I'll be reading everything she's done as Megan Lindholm. I feel incredibly lucky to have discovered this amazingly talented author.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 'Liveship Traders' an easy 5 Stars 24 août 2014

Robin Hobb's fantasies continue to be amongst the best written available on Amazon. Her world-building is superb-- this trilogy follows the Farseer trilogy, yet takes place far enough away geographically that it is as though the locales are related to the Six Dutchies only as northeastern Brazil is related to Florida. Liveship Traders includes people from four separate and well-defined, albeit intimately linked, cultures, with some references to the places and events of 'Farseer' but a completely new plot arc.

As always, Hobb's characters are particularly well written. They have significant and complex backstories to ensure their motivation is never merely a plot device: her people aren't merely noble or venal, courageous or cowardly; they have reasons for having grown up to be the people they are, and the opportunity to grow and mature as the story progresses. Conservative traders, dissolute rulers, bitter slaves, proud fisherfolk and brave pirates (and proud traders, brave slaves, conservative fisherfolk, etc.) people the trilogy, and nor are her characters limited to human beings.

The Liveships of the title, sailing ships constructed at least in part of wizardwood, are conscious, living beings with personalities as disparate as those of the humans who sail them. Bound by ties of affection and blood to particular Trader families and extremely long-lived (they achieve full consciousness when the third generation of Trader ship captains dies on board, his personality and memories entering into the shop on his death), the origins of the wizardwood allowing the Liveships to come to life is an integral part of the story. So too are the fabled giant serpents that live beneath the sea. Drawn north by some strange biological imperative to waters where once they were only frightening legend, they were once also conscious, intelligent beings, although many are now becoming unthinking beasts, their enormous size and acid venom makes them a terrible threat to wooden sailing ships.

Most of all, though, Robin Hobb is a good writer. Her descriptions of the sea are lyrical, of a flooding archaeological dig frightening, of the hold of a slave ship abhorrent. Following a long and difficult winter, she writes that "the slow mercy of time had finally brought spring...". Her prose is far better than that of the majority of writers in the genre.

Buying the trilogy as a single, long, ebook ensures it's not read out of order (Ms Hobb is not known for writing short books, and each volume of the three would probably make for a 450+ page paperback). It isn't absolutely necessary to read the Farseer books first, but is certainly helpful. If you haven't read any of Hobb's writing, start with Farseer (also available as a single download from Amazon/Kindle), but start-- Robin Hobb's books are definitely worth reading and rereading.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 An amazing amount of detail! 11 septembre 2014

What a fantastic trilogy!

I was amazed at the amount of detail the author managed to work into the story -- even linking back to a previous trilogy! The third book was filled with revelations explaining things presented throughout the other two books.

Many were the nights when I turned off the light well after midnight so I could get some sleep! It was a difficult read to put down.

All in all, it was a magnificent story. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves to immerse themselves into a story touching the lives of many people, creatures, places and events. I loved it!
5.0 étoiles sur 5 Never was I so immediately and completely drawn into another place and time. 7 mars 2016

I love horror and paranormal when I'm just reading for mindless relaxation and pleasure. But I decided to give fantasy a try when I saw Robin Hobb's Assasin's Apprentice, Book 1 in the
"Farseer Trilogy."

Never was I so immediately and so completely drawn into another place and time. Hobb created a world and characters that I felt I'd known my entire life and never wanted to leave. And not just the human ones!

The "Tawny Man Trilogy" carried on where the "Farseer Trilogy" left off, just seen through the eyes of a different, but still beloved, character. I devoured all six books in these series as fast as I could read and impatiently searched Amazon for more.

I was ecstatic to find that the world of Robin Hobb continued, maybe not with exactly the same characters, but the same world and time period. And the new characters sometimes knew of the old and familiar ones. "The Live Ship Traders Trilogy" are neighbors to "The Rain Wilds" world and I suspect it is the Tawny Man who puts in a cross-dressing appearance several times.

The four books in "The Rain Wilds Chronicles" were merely a different part of the same place and people I had come to love and never want to leave. I loved The Rain Wilds and Live Ship characters just as much.

"The Soldier Son Trilogy" was a completely different set of characters and but the world was a completion to the original one Hobb created throughout each series, though on the other side of the world. It was just as magical and captivating.

I've tried hard not to spoil anyone's reading experience with details. Only stating here how excellent the quality of writing is, as well as plotting, characterization and world-making. I am a writer and lifetime reader and none have captured me like Robin Hobb's writing.

And now I can't wait to delve into Hobb's coming home again at last in the 2-book series "Fitz and the Fool." Anyone who has read Hobb's novels have never forgotten Fitz who wandered their worlds in the first six books with his beloved Fool. Now that I know I can return to them I will leave off reviewing and pick up those books!
