Présentation de l'éditeur

A ghostly contemporary romance from USA-Today bestselling author Edie Claire.

4.5-Star Romantic Times Top Pick and winner of the Road to Romance Reviewer’s Choice Award!

Years and distance kept the memories at bay. But back at home, the past is ready and waiting to haunt her...

Eighteen years have passed since Joy's childhood best friend, Jenny, met her death in a tragic car accident just a few days after their senior prom. A broken Joy left their small Kentucky hometown shortly after -- determined never to come back. But when her father's illness forces her to return, she realizes that neither time nor distance have truly healed her troubled soul.

Plagued with nightmares of the accident and crippled by a vague fear whose source she can't identify, housecall veterinarian Joy realizes that in order to move on she must face the truth behind several disturbing gaps in her memory of that fateful spring. But the only person who can help her is a man she despises: Jenny's erstwhile boyfriend Jeff, now a respected doctor, whose carelessness as a teenager was the cause of Jenny's horrendous death -- and Joy's own emotional destruction. Can she ever forgive? She may have no choice but to try. Because both the danger she sensed -- and the childhood friendship she treasured -- now suddenly seem very much alive...

“LONG TIME COMING is a remarkably well blended romance and mystery, with fascinating shades of the paranormal. The way each layer of Joy's discovery of her forgotten past is revealed is deftly done and exceptionally suspenseful. The relationship between Joy and her parents is heart warming. This one will have you hooked from the first page.” December 2003 Top Pick. Romantic Times Bookclub Magazine

“An abundance of charm… Joy’s perky first-person narration carries readers along to a warm, gratifying conclusion.” -- Publisher’s Weekly

“Emotionally gripping, suspenseful and superb… I was held in wonderment over much of this story and realized early on to expect the unexpected. This is a story of trust, love, friendship and healing. Ms. Claire is an author I hope to see more of in the future. If Long Time Coming is any indication of her writing talent, I will be first in line at the bookstores to get more of her work. This is a positively splendid tale from start to finish and is highly recommended.” Reviewer’s Choice Award -- Road to Romance

“Two words. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Edie Claire has written a wonderful novel about friendship, love, guilt and death… Utterly riveting.” Rating: 10/10 -- Contemporary Romance Writers

“Claire's charming romance disproves the adage that you can't go home again.” -- Booklist

“A book of healing, understanding, rebirth, and finally growing up. A story that you won't forget easily... I could only sigh in appreciation as I turned the final page.” -- Romance Reviews Today

“Intense, well-written and thought-provoking.” -- Old Book Barn Gazette

“A most fantastic novel… When the story comes to an end and the lights have been lowered… and the reader is left with a longing to know more... there is no better compliment to the author.” -- Romance Junkies

The heroine, Joy, returns to her hometown in Kentucky after eighteen years away to care for her aging parents. Finding herself once again in her hometown brings back painful memories of the death of her childhood friend, Jenny, not helped by discovering that Jenny's former boyfriend who survived the car accident that killed Jenny is now her parents family doctor.

This story is part love story, part mystery, part family drama with some (believable) paranormal activity thrown in. It has a straightforward plot apart from the paranormal activity but calling it chick lit or a romance novel would not be doing it justice as it is very well written. Joy is racked with guilt from the death of her friend but doesn't know why as she was not involved in the accident. The author manages to convey this very well and we can understand Joy's conflict between wanting to find happiness and not being able to let go of her guilt. I guessed the reason for Joy's guilt halfway through the story but this did not in any way impact on my enjoyment of the book and I was sorry when I had finished it.

I got this book for free but I would have paid for it. It is definitely in the easy reading category but is intelligently written and I can recommend it even to readers, who like myself, are not usually fans of this genre. Five stars.

Two words. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Edie Claire has written a wonderful novel about friendship, love, guilt and death. Joy Hudson never completely moved passed the death of her best friend, Jenny Carver, which occurred right before their high school graduation. Now, almost twenty years later, Joy must travel back to her hometown to care for her ailing father and there she runs into Jeff Bradford, Jenny's boyfriend and the man that she has always blamed for the accident. Joy knows that it is finally time to face the emotions and memories that she buried along with Jenny. She ends up purchasing Jenny's old house and then the odd occurrences begin. A song from prom plays over and over again and the door to her home opens itself on its own accord. Joy knows that Jenny is trying to tell her something, but what? Joy will need Jeff to help her regain the memories that her mind refuses to hold onto and when she does, she finds forgiveness and love that has been waiting for her.
Utterly riveting. Edie Claire takes what could be a tedious and sappy subject and turns it into a wonderfully balanced tale of how the scars death and guilt can cause. Every character is richly developed and the story flows easily. The paranormal parts of this book are believable and poignant. I read it in one sitting and craved more even though I was satisfied with the ending. The only part of this story that bothered me was the quickness that Joy forgave Jeff. She had been harboring this hurt and blame for 18 years and forgives him in almost a blink of an eye. Besides that small plot point, this story is powerful and will find its way to my keeper shelf.

Very rarely do I give up on a book without finishing, this was one. I guess just not my style. The woman Joy (ironic because she has none) was obsessive and kind of unreasonable. At 35, seems to be an intelligent woman, but she thinks the girls she heard gossiping 18 years ago in the bathroom is the absolute gospel truth. Her Mom and Dad chose Jeff as their Physician, leading the reader to conclude they must know or believe it was an unavoidable accident that happened 18 years ago with Jenny and Jeff but NO Joy knows the "truth" because she overheard it from her reliable sources in high school?? I think Joy stopped maturing upon Jenny's death. Her Mom even tries to reason with her. Obvious question "did you confront Jeff?" Not really, Joy was better at being passive aggressive. It was slow and mindless drivel. Nothing was really happening, I even skipped ahead to the epilogue and that was even the same! Also, I guessed right away the author had to be a Vet because there was a little too much with the Veterinarian stuff almost felt at some points I was reading a How-to Manual. I hate to give a 1 star because I respect the work an author puts into a book and because I feel a lot times books are very personal in opinion. So clearly by all the other ratings there is an audience for this.

HASH(0x908d3a2c) étoiles sur 5 charming contemporary romance 26 novembre 2003

After being away from her hometown of Wharton, Kentucky for eighteen years except for short visits to her parents, veterinarian Dr. Joy Hudson moves back. The only people who could make her return are her parents. Her septuagenarian mother suffers from glaucoma and cannot care for her dying octogenarian spouse by herself. Surprisingly everyone Joy buys the house in which her deceased best friend Jenny Carver once lived.
Joy still blames Jenny's boyfriend Jeffrey Bradford for the car accident that took her friend's life as she believes he drove under the influence. Still when they meet when she hit his dog Bear they both feel an attraction. As Joy and Jeffrey fall in love, her blaming him stands in their way. If Joy can move past her anger, perhaps she and Jeffrey can help her father meet his prime goal of holding a grandchild and also allow Jenny to rest in peace.
This contemporary romance engages the audience in several ways. Readers will wonder if the lead female character's love for Jeffrey can overcome her animosity towards him as she blames him for Jenny's death. The audience will also speculate whether the ghost of Jenny is pushing together the two people who meant so much to her when she lived. Fans will cherish this charming tale.

This is a hard book to rate, the beginning is excellent, the middle was fine but the quality of writing in the last third was disappointing.

This is romance novel with an unnecessary supernatural component. Joy (an odd name for a woman who has none) returns to her home town and must confront the man she holds responsible for the death for her best friend in high school. She has two men vying for her attention, a dying parent, a jealous ex-wife, someone trying to murder her, she is starting a new business, has revengeful business competition and the ghost of her died friend. This is too much junk to carry an effective storyline.

It was free on Kindle so the price was right.

I read alot of reviews about this book and I concur with them all, but no one mentioned the fact that it is a paranormal story. I am not going to choose this genre and would appreciate knowing this information before I read. I wouldn't have chosen it if I had known. It seems more and more of the cozy mysterys I get written after the year 2000 are paranormal. I'm not happy about it. I will repeat this review with any paranormal book I find if it hasn't already been mentioned.
