Netherlands author Edwin Ammerlaan has served as a music journalist for OOR Magazine, the oldest currently published music magazine in the Netherlands covering all kinds of music – indie, rock, pop, dance, hip-hop, roots, and more. His articles are widely published in Dutch music publications. His published books include SAGA: The Biography, and now LOST SOULS. Ammerlaan knows his territory well and is able to relate in depth history and facts about Pink Floyd as well as presenting a ‘fictional history’ to make his overview even more entertaining!

Ammerlaan explains his accepting the challenge to write a history of the iconic Pink Floyd band: ‘I decided to base my book on real-life events from the band’s history, but also to add some ‘made-up’ stories along the way (like playing a round of golf with Roger Waters). I also introduced a fictional principal character, Matt, so I could (re) visit events and comment on the band’s history as it unfolded. By placing these events in chronological order and having Matt present them all, I realized my book was becoming a kind of coming-of-age story. At this point I incorporated some of my personal experiences of working and growing up in the music industry as well.’ And the result - a fascinating journey that reminds us of the glory of Pink Floyd – the English rock band formed in London in 1965, gaining an early following as one of the first psychedelic groups!

Lost souls is a fictional story about many facts, quotes, and events that took place throughout Pink Floyd's life in 50 years. The story provides an insightful and unique look to Pink Floyd's life but is also a coming of age story. It is written well, and although it's a story, I enjoyed how the author used a fictional character, Matt, to meet Pink Floyd and then travel with him to meet other interesting people. The pace of the story was steady and kept me going. I appreciated the author's effort in researching and making sure everything was accurately fact-checked.
