Présentation de l'éditeur

A standalone, contemporary romance about the ultimate forbidden love...

He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.

He speaks Spanish. I speak English.

He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.

He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.

He’s married and has a five-year old daughter.

I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.

Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the damn truth.

***

To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.

Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Spanish charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.

Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.

Something that can never, ever be.

Or so she thinks.

Wow. Brilliant author and undoubtedly one of my very few favorite books. I would go for more than 5 stars if we could... and Vera wouldn't contradict me here.

You can read any of Ms Halle's book, whatever the genre (yes, she is that brilliant that she can handle anything), and you are just swallowed up in the action, living it without realizing you are reading fiction, and then you turn the last page but you never want it to end... and you are sent back to reality, feeling confused, on the line between reality and fiction, more than happy for the experience, but weird and marked.

You feel so much that when it's over you are hungover, exactly the same feeling as after an amazing trip and you are back to your real life, your head full of memories and enriching experiences... Except here we are talking fiction... Weird indeed, but it shows how amazing this author is.

As a former backpacker and grown-up traveller, I completely identified with the emotions the main character, Vera, goes through. The experience here bleeds with accuracy and once again, I completely forgot I was reading fiction.

As a woman, I was utterly moved by the story that unfolds, the emotions that perspire throughout the novel, and the difficult subject matter developed here. I loved the way it was handled.

Thank you Ms Halle, always a great pleasure to read you!

This book was recommended to me by many. So many that I lost count. That's how great I was hoping this to be.

I don't mind controversy, especially when it's well written. I'm fact, my fave story of all time is supposedly wrong on many levels but ended up the most beautiful story and one that made me see the right in the wrongs. So, I had high hopes for this to be just as another great one. I read the blurb, knew what to expect and had no problem with the story line. None.

I love the prologue. Love how the writing and how the story starts.

Vera came across as a young, carefree and tough chick. And I love that quality in a heroine. And I enjoyed how descriptive the writing is, I can pretty much portrayed the scenery in my mind and how everyone looks like vividly. Like I said. Great writing. I was excited.

Then I look forward to how this will be played out. And gosh, I wasn't expecting to feel uncomfortable. I like their friendship and but the moment the line was crossed, the story is no longer ok to me.

First of all, I don't get their "love" for each other. I do get the "lust" clearly. Every feeling described was pretty much physical. His Adonis look, her big boobs, his eyes that somehow looks like he wanted to eat her, yes.. I get it. It's a great attraction but I don't get the feeling of that "love" they meant to feel. Their conversation doesn't quite support the emotions either (of course this is all in my opinion).

And although Vera did hold back thanks to her conscience, but still it doesn't help to justify it by love. If only everything is so simple. And that's how I started to get irritated and disconnected from the story and the characters. I felt that people surrounding them actually supported their connections and the advices they actually makes me feel uneasy.

And back to Vera, coming from a broken home (my parents divorced when I was a teen), it's true that it's harder to take and left you with lots of emotional scars and drive you to your rebellious side, so I could relate to it though I think everything it's much more dramatic and instead of making her stronger, I feel like Vera turned out to be a weak heroine. I get it that she's still young, so that's probably that which is why I ended up hating (yes.. Hating) Mateo.

Bottom line, I just don't get it. I don't get their relationship, their love and their feelings that I should feel to understand why they need to be together.

The writing is great, the storyline is promising, the execution.. Just making it even more clear to me why this "love" they had is simply wrong.

2 stars only for the writing and for taking me to Spain with it.

Sadly, this one not working for me.

But , I only liked it .
Tragic :(

this review may contain a few spoilers ...

Love, in English was a beautifully written book . I enjoyed some parts of it . Not everything . I gave it 3 stars for the dragging and the extremely boring points I felt didn't belong in the story . It started off promising . I loved the first part of this book and the beginning . Then it goes downhill . I absolutely adored Vera . She read like a rebel girl with an attitude of "I live my life the way I want and the hell with anyone who tries to tell me otherwise." Then , through the powers of falling in love , she pulls a whole 180 and becomes the complete opposite of what she was .

Vera , is a 23 year old college student . I want to say interning in Spain on a retreat to teach and educate Spanish people on the English language . There , she meets Mateo . A MARRIED man of 38 . The age difference isn't what bothered me about this . (There are some attractive men well over 40 in Hollywood, women we understand) It was the aspect of leaving the wife for the other woman . yes , I get it ... everyone deserves their happiness . Vera being someone who suffered through her parent's divorce for these same reasons as a teenager (I never experienced so I cannot imagine the pain) , you would think she would know not to inflict that on another family . No , Vera comes off as selfish , immature and unlikable after awhile . I went into this full aware of what it was about , I was expecting an epic love story of two people regardless of marital status . Here ? I didn't buy it . It wasn't the cheating that i didn't like about this . it was the lack of realism . It wasn't believable . I , personally, did not believe these two were in love . Basically , I simply didn't buy their love story . Not at first , many times this was very painful to read . Beautifully written , although boring . I couldn't understand why an almost 40 year old would leave his marriage for a woman he had known only a matter of 4 weeks ? Pack up his life wih his daughter he adores so much , and wife . Regardless of his lack of feelings towards Isabel .
"You can fall in love in a second, the heart has no regard for time."
I guess this is one of those things you have to experience in life personally to understand . Or just simply be open minded . I didn't get it .
There are moments later of violent encounters and Mateo just becomes unlikable . I mean more than he already was becoming .

Love , in Spanish ? Will I read it ? Probably not , or .... probably so , because I want to know what's in the head of this Mateo character that our heroine simply can't stay away from , married or not .

If stories of married men and affairs and single women and sex , bother you . Beware . I liked it , however I didn't love it . Would I recommend it ? Neutral .
You decide .

Vera wants the experience of a lifetime, so she decides to go to Spain and spend a month teaching conversational English to business men and woman; this way she can forgo spending a summer interning for her major (astronomy). She will get to meet new people have fun all while getting free room and board on a beautiful remote resort. She never expected to meet HIM and fall in love.

Mateo a retired football/soccer star turned business man is captivated by Vera and her free spirit. She is unlike any woman he has ever known. As their time together and sessions go on they grow close and something changes between the two. Feelings get in the way and soon everything Vera thought she wouldn't become she turns into (the other woman).
Vera:"You're married!" I yelled. "I cannot be the other woman!"
Matteo: "You already are the other woman!" he yelled right back.

Guilt consumes her but she can't stay away. She knows this can't go on but she's never felt more alive.
Vera: "I stared at the ring on his finger. I thought about what it meant. Then I thought about what he meant to me."

I'm not spoiling anything because it tells you in the blurb what is going to happen and YES it has cheating! I hate cheating (probably the reason I couldn't give it the full 5 stars) but somehow the author made it work in this book. First, you didn't get to know the wife, in so many books it's a love triangle where you like all the characters and it just becomes frustrating. Second, Matteo was unhappy and truly in love with Vera, he made bad choices but acted in the moment. Third, she felt so much guilt the whole time. I liked both the H/h and I love when that happens in a book. Matteo did piss me off in a certain chapter towards the end of the book and I won't say anything about that because it could be slightly spoilerish but he definitely had me thinking twice about him. Another great thing about this book was Vera's younger brother Josh (which I'm hoping to get a book about). He was so supportive of Vera and her choices.
Josh: "I don't think it can be wrong if it comes from a pure place. I suppose you could be like one of those chicks who just keeps it all inside and secretly pine for someone for their whole life until it kills them. But your not. What you feel isn't wrong, Vera...it's not black and white like that." Another insightful Josh quote.
Josh: "You just fell in love with each other at a very messy time. It's life. It happens. Matteo never set out to fall in love, to hurt his wife..." I'm not wring the rest of this quote because it could be a spoiler. I really thought the age difference would bother me too, but it didn't. Karina Halle just made the whole thing work, cheating, age, and distance. I'm so happy I gave this book a chance.

REVIEW:
Karina Halle’s novels are always on my to read a.s.a.p. list every time any are released. I was surprised and super excited when I heard about Love, In English and that it was a deep romance story and not horror. As a big fan of EIT, I couldn’t wait to step outside of horror and step into some steamy romance, which is exactly what I did. Halle has never disappointed me. I have to say this story and the writing is Halle at the top of her game, she created fantastic characters, emotion, all along with her wonderful writing that was top notch.

Love, In English follows Vera Miles who decided to take a leap and spend the summer interning toward her astronomy major in Spain. She was excited to assist with English and have conversations with businessmen and women who are learning the language. But what she doesn’t expect is along with meeting new people, she meets a man who changes everything. Mateo Casalles is a successful businessman as well as former sports star; he shares an undeniable connection with Vera that they try not to show. But it’s difficult to resist something that feels so right and with Mateo married and Vera going back to the US they must decide if it’s worth the risk.

Vera is a rebel, but a smart one, she loves Astronomy and has deep love music and expressing herself. She is also the very opposite of Mateo, the man she is trying not to fall for. It was interesting watching the slow but very sweet development of friendship between Mateo and Vera, I liked that they talked and learned from each other and didn’t just jump into anything. I was of course worried from the start about Vera doing something that would eventually break her heart, but sometimes love is worth the risk. Vera is a great character, she is flawed and her mistakes cause her heartbreak, but she knows what will make her happy. Her family is slightly focused on and I was shocked by her mother and sister, they were terrible overall and didn’t try to understand Vera. But she has a brother who rocks and is her constant.

Mateo is a man whom you can tell misses his life feeling the rush of his sport, but his business is something he needs to focus on now. He also has a daughter whom he adores and would do anything and everything for, along with a wife who he hasn’t felt a connection for, for a long time. I had no idea how Vera and Mateo’s story was going to work, someone was going to get hurt, especially with him being married. I was shocked with the outcome and there were so many emotions and mistakes from both Mateo and Vera. There would never be an easy way to handle what happens but Halle’s writing eases the story along perfectly by making you feel the love and the hope that both characters are looking for.

Overall this was a romance I was looking for, so different from what I’ve read, since there are so many reason this romance shouldn’t happen. But nonetheless there were tons of wonderful secondary characters that bring to life a summer of passion, romances, secrets and heartbreak. I look forward to more romance stories from Karina Halle, her writing really captured something special in this book.
RECOMMENDATION:

This is a new adult romance story with some mature content meant for readers 18+. Fans of the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines and Wait for You by J. Lynn will love, Love, In English by Karina Halle.

Love, in English

I gave this book five stars because it was a great story and I truly enjoyed reading it. Love, in English was a book I had been waiting to go on sale and as soon as it did, I grabbed it. The story was very interesting. The story kept my attention throughout the entire book. A lot of times when reading a book I skip ahead to an interesting part of the story and then plan to go back- this time, I didn't need to do that. The author knew how to capture my attention and keep it for more than just a few pages.

As much as I loved Love, in English, towards the end of the book I hated Vera's character. She chickened out and didn't fight. The author made her seem weak and for the first time I did finally judge her. I don't want to spoil anything for any readers. Just read the book.

Overall the book was again, a great story. Vera did a lot of things that bugged me but that was her character. I loved Mateo's character. He saw Vera in the light. He was always so positive. And I loved how the author wrote about his Spanish culture. I know why Vera fell for him.

I would recommend this book to anyone who can handle reading about loveless marriages, affairs and forbidden attractions. The story was just too good to get wrapped up in those things.

There were a couple of grammatical errors but I've seen worse so that didn't bother me too much. Buy the book. Even if you don't love it, I don't believe you will regret reading the story.
