I'd nearly given up. All I could find were those neoprene sleeves with no room for the power supply or units much too bulky or units costing way more than I wanted to spend. Then this bag showed up in Amazon's Daily Deals feed. It looked pretty good at a price that cannot be beat, so I ordered it.
I am so glad I did! It arrived last night on my doorstep. I opened it up and explored the bag. It has leather looking visible panels, high quality zippers, and lots of padding on the back and straps. There is a handle to make carrying it easy while you have your other bag on your shoulders. There are 3 pouches. The outer one under the Velcro flap houses your quick grab items. The center compartment has several pockets and flaps for pens, media, electronics and such. The largest compartment has a removable cables bag and a neoprene flapped laptop cradle that tucks my 810 in snug as a bug in a rug. The hidden water bottle net is neat and I use cell phone pockets for everything but cell phones. (They are a great place to hide your Skittles!)
Although the bag is compact in size it can hold a lot. Great bag at a great price.
i have a 'bad back', if i carry anything over a few pounds in one of my hands (like my laptop), it knocks my lower back out of kilter, and i experience weeks of pain. so i must use a backpack, even just for carrying the laptop from my office to my car in the parking lot!
i bought a cheapo backpack last time around, and after the strap broke with nearly disastrous consequences, i decided to really research what was out there. naturally, amazon's customer reviews are one of the best ways to find the really good stuff - and this is good indeed.
the pack is simple in styling - understated elegance in my opinion. there's no blinding fire-red stripes or hot pink patches on it as so many other packs have - sorry, that's not my idea of good taste. but far more important are the build quality and design - both of which are top-notch. the zippers are very heavy and i've no doubt they'll last a decade. the straps are well-padded, and the plastic cinchers - what broke on the last one - are solid and heavy as well.
the outer pocket is very deceptive - it looks like it'd barely hold a pad of paper and some pens - but it holds piles of stuff - i have a dozen cdroms in tyvek sleeves in one pocket, a spare ethernet cable in another, pens, a knife, a mini-maglite flashlight, a roll of velcro ties, my wallet, my reading glasses in a hardshell case - and there's room to spare. that's just the OUTER pocket! the main laptop compartment is very spacious, holding my 14" laptop with room to spare (as advertised, it should hold a typical 15" laptop fine). i have a full size leather folio in the other pocket in the main compartment, and there's room for the laptop power supply as well.
but best of all, it's all held close to the back - no cascade of pockets that stick out a foot and a half behind you like so many other packs. that's better for one's balance, thus easier on the back. it looks nicer, and takes up less space, proportionally, while holding just as much as the humongo packs.
it really is understated excellence. my hat is off to lowepro, they've hit the absolute sweet spot in a business user's laptop backpack. i'm pleased as punch. and on top of all that - it's less expensive than some of the other laptop bags out there. this is by far the finest value one will find, period.
The front section has an ID slot, 4 pouches with velcro closures, 4 additional uncovered pouches and 4 pen-sized pouches, as well as a key fob. On one side of the backpack there is another covered pouch with a velcro closure (probably intended for a cellphone) and on the other side there is a hidden expandable mesh pocket to hold a water bottle. In the padded section intended to store the computer, there is, of course, a large pouch for the computer, with a flap that covers the top of the computer and velcros shut. The outside of the computer pouch has two additional uncovered pouches on it. On the opposite side there is a large pouch suitable for a file folder or such, which also has a velcro closure, and a detachable barrel-shaped zippered case for holding power cords and/or other incidentals.
I highly recommend this case. It has a lot of features, looks professional and is very reasonably priced. I have a Targus backpack for my work laptop and I MUCH prefer this Lowepro Tropolis 1250!
