I love Lonely Planet, and have traveled to dozens of countries following their advice. This guidebook, however, was pretty worthless (at least for peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, where we were). The food recommendations were very hit-or-miss (so after a while we ditched their advice and followed wikitravel/tripadvisor (luckily we had internet everywhere we were)), and the maps were AWFUL. Kuala Lumpur's was completely unusable. For planning, the book was OK--descriptions of sites were good, but not so much for logistics, which may reflect Malaysia's rapidly improving infrastructure more than the book itself. We were a bit frustrated by finding accommodation in Malaysia-- almost all of the LP reviews are somewhat tepid, and considering how inexpensive accommodation is in MY, we would have liked some more rave-worthy guesthouses. Not sure if that reflects on the book or the country, though. Still, until LP updates this book, I'd go with a different guidebook.

This guide has gone with me to Malaysia and Singapore. It's great for planning ahead and inspiration when you're not quite sure what to do next. The area maps with all the landmarks (attractions, hotels, restaurants) are particularly helpful. An itsy-bitsy warning, though: maybe 2 of the dozens of places we've found in the book were closed down. If that is a big concern, just call ahead.

If you're going to Jonker Night Market in Melaka, don't forget your Lonely Planet book! Wave it at Ho Eng Hui, the Coconut Kung Fu Master and he will sign it. Now, that's a souvenir!

This book made a huge difference on my trip. I was able to get truly insider information by reading these pages.

I checked some of the pages with the locals and the authors were right on. This book shaped my trip and allowed me to do a lot of the activities that I would have missed otherwise.

A must have!
3.0 étoiles sur 5 Good book for big cities, not very in depth for smaller towns 2 mars 2011

I stayed in Kuantan, Malaysia, for a week. And, there was only a short paragraph about Kuantan. There was no mentioning of the nightlife, health clubs, massage, and Sengai Pandan Waterfall near Kuantan. If you're looking for in-depth details about Kuantan, you will be disappointed. But, there are many pages devoted to Kuala Lumpur. So, for small towns, I suggest buying a separate guide book.

Quite weak in coverage of neighborhoods in KL. but good for a broad brushstroak of the city.
