So I bought this in the excitement along with a monbento (which I love) but as soon as i got the products I wish I hadn't opted for the cutlery set.

The issue is: for something custom designed for the monbento it's very poor. You can fit a regular fork in the monbentos chamber anyways. The spoon is almost flat rendering it useless for soups.

The soup should have had a bigger head and the fork and knife could be 50% bigger and still be designed to fit in the chamber. They arent terrible pieces of silverware, just horribly optimized to be used with the monbento.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Quality but not perfection 21 septembre 2013
Par Emma Lee - Publié sur
The first thing I noticed when I unboxed the cutlery set, is that it does not match the Monbento perfectly. Monbento Original Bento Box - BLUE/WHITE Some may think it's silly to care, but I think it is an important observation for those that appreciate perfection. It looks as though the base color is exactly the same, but because the material is different, the color is slightly off. The Monbento lunch box is constructed of a hard, smooth plastic, and the cutlery container is made of a pliable plastic.

The silverware is heavy duty and has a classic, brushed finish. Each piece is graced with the logo and name of the company. As others have mentioned, the spoon is very shallow, making it nearly useless for thin soups. But if you are pairing this with the Monbento lunch box, it's unlikely you will be using it for such a task. I find it very useful for yogurts and stews. The forks tongs are slightly wider than I would prefer, but it is perfectly functional. The knife is nearly perfect. While it has the shape of a butter knife, it possesses a slightly sharpened serrated edge, making it great for cutting as well.

The silverware does sometimes come out of their case. They don't pop, click or lock into place. They rely on pressure to keep them tucked away. Although I've had them come out once or twice, I do not find this problematic.

When taken out of the hard clear case (which it not pictured), this set fits nicely in between the outer and intermediary lid.

I was a bit disappointed that the spoon I received has burring on the edge, making it rough. I'm hoping it smooths away with use and washing. I think Monbento slightly dropped the ball there because they boast such high quality.

Overall, I think this is a good product. (I'm going to chalk up the rough edge on my spoon to a fluke.) It's an expensive set, but I'm happy to have quality silverware that compliments my Monbento.

I purchased this cutlery set along with the monbento box, and have been so glad ever since! This little set fits perfectly into the top lid of the monbento, and comes in a nice little case (as pictured). What is not pictured, however, it the plastic "shell" it comes in, which I look forward to using for camping trips and other adventures!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Disappointed 2 juillet 2013

I love my Bento box and have enjoyed using it -- even when I don't take the time to make my lunch "cute" so I ordered the cutlery set thinking it would fit perfectly, be available when I need it and best of all be sustainable and reusable. But it doesn't snap in and they have not been that handy. Don't bother.

I think this product is too expensive for what you are getting. The stainless steel and finish are of good quality, but the design leaves much to be desired. This isn't the most ergonomic silverware out there. The pieces are short, flat, and fat. This combination makes for awkward eating. The measurements are 5 inches long for the knife and fork and 4 inches long for the spoon. The spoon also has almost no depth so I can't see how you could ever reasonably eat soup with it. The pieces are a smidgen over one-half inch wide. The silverware at least should be at least an inch longer to be functional, but they couldn't do that in order to accommodate space for the steam spout at the end of top cover for the food containers. They do look cute, but they remind me of pieces for babies. They are just worthless for adults.

If I were a design engineer, I would make a center notch in the plastic housing to accommodate the spout but have just the fork and spoon so that they could be lengthened to the length of the lunch box which would make them at least an inch longer. That would be almost perfect.

So buyers be forewarned that this is not a good buy for the person who regularly takes their lunch to work with the Monbento box and would like these matching silverware. I guess you can get accustomed to them eventually, but for the money I want satisfaction right out of the box. I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning them especially since I opened the package and I imagine you can't resell these things for sanitary reasons. Now my kids have expensive silverware for THEIR lunch.
