Having had time to digest the material, I can definitely say this volume retains the smart, funny, outrageously over-the-top, and surprisingly academic feel of the previous volumes. And while this is still a great set of comics to have and read (I tore through it the moment I got it in the mail), it definitely has an air of familiarity to it, the outrageous twists and overall mad science-y feel is no longer as vulgar, unexpected or shocking as it was in past volumes. Nothing in this collection made me burst out laughing like the others have, even though there were moments as equally hilarious as Oppenheimer telling the shamanistic Truman he was going to eat him, they kind of fell flat. Of course, all of these are to be expected as the series continues and I do not feel that this means the comic is any less excellent. If anything, I think this comic has gotten sharper as it has continued and is still one of my two favorite ongoing series (the excellent East of West being the other). I definitely feel like re-reading the collection, maybe even the entire series, a month or two from now will get my heart pumping as the story unfolds more than it did my first time through. I believe this has more to do with this collection consisting of more world-establishing than the earlier world-building ones.

So with all of that nonsense said, would I recommend it? I can't yell "Yes!" loud enough.

You know, Hickman really isn’t kidding. It’s science and it’s bad. It’s real bad. Our band of previously blissfully crazy and self-centered science bandits are now in full-on berserker mode and out of control. No one is safe, especially themselves.

Gagarin is wearing white briefs, Einstein is fighting parallel Einstein, there’s a blue vs. red Oppenheimer mind-genocide going on and I’m thinking these are the maniacs who want to control the world?

Twirling my thumbs and anticipating the next volume. I honestly have no idea what to expect any more.

“Science. Bad.” This Book. Good. “Hmmm…” indeed.

The story is getting more complicated now. Joseph Oppenheimer (Robert's evil twin who likes to eat people and preserve their intellects in the deep recess of his brain) is fighting a virtual civil war (in his mind, of course) against the 'forces' of his dead twin Robert. Fermi and Daghlian see a rift in their friendships. William Westmoreland (of Vietnam fame) makes an appearance and throws a huge wrench in the grand intricate plans of our protagonists. There is only one thing a reader should do now: kick back and enjoy this crazy, quirky ride that Hickman is taking us on.

This book continues to impress. There are no real villains and no real heroes; from start to end every character is both. Of the four books I would say this is my personal favorite and probably the strongest, though all four books are very good. This book however brings a few sub plots to fruition and leaves the projects we have known so far in a state that they can never come back from. Prepare for more unethical fun, more logical insanity and more crazy s***. If you haven't yet; BUY THIS BOOK!

The Manhattan Projects continues to be one of the most innovative books in both writing and art while remaining consistent in its tone and spirit. While the book may be too weird for some, its weirdness relies on a system of reason. The book is very clever.
