Présentation de l'éditeur

When a man falls down at Samantha Darling’s feet, she thinks it’s pretty funny. But she stops joking when he turns up dead.

Social worker and would-be crime-solver Sam is busy trying to unravel the mystery as the death toll keeps mounting. She’s thrilled to be hired by the handsome local PI to work in the ER and investigate. Being paid to snoop makes her feel like she's died and gone to heaven, but Sam's elation quickly evaporates when she finds out that her sister Jen is being investigated for the murders.

A trio of other suspects, a poisoning scare for her best bud and canine companion Clancy, and the back-and-forth pull of Sam’s attraction to the dreamy Michael and the loyal George keep her unbalanced as she tries to juggle social work, secret sleuthing, and a romantic triangle. As usual, Sam takes her snooping to extraordinary heights. She can’t seem to stop putting her nose where it doesn’t belong.

And this time… she may have gone too far.

Don't miss the other Sam Darling books! Here they are in order:
Who Killed My Boss?
Any Meat in That Soup?
Can You Picture This?
Will You Marry Me?
Where is Henderson?
Who's the Rogue? (2016)
and Triple Trouble (2016) a box set of the first three books in the series packaged with a bonus short!

Praise for Jerilyn Dufresne and the Sam Darling Mysteries

Dufresne has created a charming, nosy, and slightly irreverent character in Samantha Darling, the heroine in Who Killed My Boss?, a fast-paced cozy that takes place in the small town of Quincy, Illinois.

Beth Amos, author of the Mattie Winston Mystery series (as Annelise Ryan)

The plot kept me guessing until nearly the end and I am looking forward to reading further adventures! Fun and entertaining read… highly recommended… well done!

Anne Kelleher, author of Love's Labyrinth and A Once and Future Love

Dufresne shows her gift of storytelling as she moves the plot forward, introducing believable characters and a complicated plot. Recommended to everyone who enjoys a well-written, fun, cozy mystery!

Kimberly Shursen, author of Itsy Bitsy Spider and Hush

Jerilyn currently works as an outpatient therapist at a local mental health clinic and teaches at Quincy University. She and her dog Gus live with, and are tolerated by, two cats.

Yes! I never did this before. I put the book down--not easy with a Jerilyn Dufresne mystery which cries out for continued reading--because I couldn't wait to tell you what a good time I'm having. First, I wish Sam Darling were a living being so we could meet for lunch at least once a month. I love her wit, her sibllngs (as one of four I know how much fun brothers and sisters can be), her dog Clancy who really listens to Sam and thinks about what was said to her. We know this because Sam shares those thoughts with us and I believe her. When she tells Clancy she has to wait ten minutes for her walk, Clancy drops her leash and waits...exactly ten minutes. I appreciate the author's attention to detail that is never boring and I love learning about the inner workings of the ER, its staff, the break room, the minds of detectives, the vet's office. When fiction adds facts I didn't know about, it's another dimension of pleasure. And then there are the murders, the poisonings, the romance, the loving or angry remarks, all adding to the fun and I can't wait for the third Sam Darling mystery. But wait! I have to get back to the second so I can continue to ponder who did what to whom...and why! I spend every minute I can with my Kindle and my friend Sam Darling, and I've already spent too many minutes here when I could, and should, be there!

Sam Darling has a job and an old/new boyfriend in this second novel of the murder series involving a mental social worker, her dog, Clancy, and murder mysteries in the small town of Quincy, Illinois.

The title comes from shared memories of Sam and her High School boyfriend, George. George is now the Homicide Detective and tries to keep Sam from being too nosy around crime scenes. Although both are in their mid-forties, they have found each other again. A gentle romance.

However, when bodies start mounting up at the hospital and even doggies are being poisoned, including Clancy, there is no way to keep Sam out of the thick of it. Michael, Quincy's new Private Investigator gets Sam a part time job as a 'Crisis Interventionist' at the hospital so that she has a cover, but, Sam is not too adroit at being 'undercover.'

There is humor in this novel but cozy is a bit more predictable than the first. I truly enjoyed it though and will be reading the third soon.

I may have to get my husband to hide my Kindle so I can get some sleep!
I really like this book. It has a little bit of everything in it. It is well written. It flows smoothly and is easy to understand.
It's about a middle age woman, which I like. No sex. No curse words.

Sam is a social worker and would be crime solver. She is fiesty, funny and smart. There has been a series of murders in Quincy. Sam's sister Jen is under suspicion. Sam can't take that and decides to find the real murderer. There are a trio of other suspects. Among other animals that have been poisoned Sam's dog is poisoned too. This is too close to home for Sam and she increases her efforts to find the murderer.

I do recommend this book to all ages. Enjoy your book folks.

I'm really enjoying these cozy mysteries. I have to admit I'm not easily attracted to the plots in "cozies", however, the cover of the first book in this series caught my eye and I'm grateful it did. Jerilyn Dufresne's picture-book covers depict her stories perfectly; quaint town; neighborly people, yet not without their own challenges.
DuFresne has an easy, unique style that make the words fly by as you try to figure out "whodunnit." I have not been right in either book, so the twists make me want to turn to the back page, but the characters are so fun to get to know I couldn' wouldn't... let myself spoil the surprise..
Sam Darling - well, just start with the name - how can anyone resist a name like hers with an added bonus of getting to know her brothers and sisters.
One of the things that pulled me into this series is Clancy - Sam's dog. Sam not only talks to Clancy, but bounces theories and ideas off her beloved pet- as I do with my two furry canines. From one book to the next, Clancy is there beside Sam ready for the next adventure.
I can actually envision this series as a sitcom as who wouldn't enjoy a bit of "meat" that includes a few upbeat, comical situations?
Everyone will be able to identify with Sam Darling - from wanting to solve a murder, to making some difficult choices.
Recommended for all ages, and am looking forward to the next book is this delightful series.

Samantha Darling is a 40-something, mother of two young adults, vegetarian in a family of meat lovers, social worker by day and a fledgling PI by night. The book opens with a man falling at her feet, which she finds pretty entertaining – until she realizes he’s actually dead, and her sister may be a prime suspect.

Michael, the PI that Sam works for (and has a sort-of crush on) hires her to gather intelligence at the ER. She’d snoop for free if she could, so actually getting paid to do it makes her think she’s died and gone to heaven. Michael’s not sure he can trust her to be impartial, but she convinces him to let her gather information, which she promises to immediately turn over to him. She knows deep in her soul that her sister, a charge nurse in an ER, is not guilty, so she’s motivated find other suspects.

Sam is assisted in her sleuthing by her elderly landlord, George, and her beloved dog, Clancy. She and Clancy understand each other in a way no one else can. It’s almost like they can read each other’s thoughts. Clancy falls victim to a wily poisoner, and Sam rushes her to the vet to get help. The events with Clancy ultimately lead to Sam solving the crime.

There is a nice subplot involving her feelings for Michael, as well as for her high school boyfriend George, now a cop, who stood her up on Prom Night, and whom she’s never forgiven. Sam’s parents died when she was barely 18, but she was able to keep the family together and they play a prominent role in this story. The dialogue is entertaining, and the supporting characters are well-drawn.

I did not know until part way in that this was book 2 in this series. I was a little bit lost regarding references to events in the first book, but not enough to put me off reading this one. I enjoyed going along for the ride, and when I was done, I purchased books 1, 3, and 4. This is a light, entertaining, and easy-to-read series I will enjoy following.
