This is an incredible collection of Rob's music and some great video footage as well. I don't need to delve into it much but just for some clarification here. The top reviewer on here says this is a re-recorded version. It is NOT RE-RECORDED!!! If you're talking about original versions, THIS in fact is the true original because this is the track taken from the K5 demos. So, if you don't like them, you don't like them I just wanted to clarify that these were not re-recorded. ALL HAIL THE METAL GOD!!!!

Rob Halford is an icon. There's no other way to describe him. His one of a kind voice, his outlandish stage presence, his courage in identifying himself, and the powerhouse that is Judas Priest make Rob one of the seminal figures in rock music for the past three decades.

Yet for casual music fans, Rob's presence is held only to Judas Priest and classic albums like Screaming for Vengeance or British Steel. His work outside the band is giving short shrift unless you're a metal head or a deep fan. Which is why this Cd/DVD set is a treasure trove. I have to admit to not having the Fight material before this, and only the Live Insurrection Halford disc. (I do own Two's Voyeurs, oddly not included here.) What "Metal God Essentials" does is remind us just how creative Rob can be even without the JP brand behind him.

There are plenty of great tracks here, including the terrific "War of Words" where Rob recites the Preamble to the Bill of Rights and then whips into one roaring song (lest we forget, he once had to sit in a court and defend himself from parents trying to blame heavy metal for their son's suicide) about freedom of speech and personal responsibility.

A pair of new tracks appear here, "Forgotten Generation" and "Drop Out." The former is terrific (although remixed superfluously as a bonus cut). The DVD is interesting, in that you can see some of Halfdord (the man and the band) in the creative process. A lot of this has to do with Rob explaining why he formed his new bands. It's interesting to see that there's more to him than one would expect. The music vids are exactly what you would expect, however. Lot's of screaming fans, claustrophobic images, leather and uniforms. Of these, only the acoustic "In The Morning" offers anything out of the usual, and is the most interesting. (Why wasn't this a hit?) It has echoes of Angel of Retribution's "Angel," or Extreme's "More Than Words." Good stuff, all the way through.

The limited edition autograph package - Metal God Essentials Autographed Limited Edition DigiPak - has a 3x3 autograph card (cool!) and second CD of superflous remixes (not so cool). Good for superfans. (Mine is number 1205!)

Greatest hits with some new and re-done tracks. A dvd was also added which made this well worth the price. I can't wait for War Of Words The Film to be released.

Grab this while available, this is a best of cd from the Metal God Rob Halford, it covers almost all eras of his solo carreer (except for the experimental band Two) plus 2 new recordings (2006) "Forgotten Generation" (The first single off Metal God Essentials Vol. 1) and "Drop Out" which is the second single available for free download at robhalford(dot)com!, the selection is superb! if you can get the limited edition, which has all remixes of "Forgotten generation" and it is autographed by Rob himself! You cannot go wrong with this!

This has to be one of the best "Best Of" cd's that I own from a singer than went on their own to create their own identity from their major band. We all know the story of Rob leaving Priest to form Fight, Two and Halford, so I don't need to touch on that at all. I gave it 4 stars cause there is nothing on here from "A small deadly space" or from "Vouyers". The new songs are great and the remastered version of the old ones are great also. This won't be around forever, pick it up quickly. Into The Pit, Nailed To The Gun are new recording version. They are not remastered, they are re-recorded version of the originals. They are still good, but they don't have the first attempt to them when you listen to them. They don't move me as the originals do. The DVD bonus is a huge bonus since you don't get to see the video's on any music channel. I just wish that he would have included those from FIGHT. Wrapping this up. This is a good buy, you won't be disappointed unless you wanted a little more of his solo stuff.
