HASH(0x922b8294) étoiles sur 5 best guide with a serious flaw 18 mai 2013

I bought the 2013 Paris Green Guide for my 10th trip to Paris. I lived there for a year as a student and I consider myself well familiar with the city. But I wanted the latest Guide for it's superb information (the best in any book) about the countless places to visit. However, the Index at the back of the book is seriously flawed and changes using this book from a breeze to a maddening chore. The problem? In most cases you have to know first where a site is located to be able to find it in the index. Here's a typical real-life example. The Jacquemart-André Museum on the Boulevard Haussmann that houses a world-class collection of 18th century art. Good luck finding it in your Michelin!! You won't find it under Museums or Musée or Jacquemart or Haussmann or anything else that seems logical. You have to look under the letter P and a neighborhood called 'Pleine et Parc Monceau!" In other words, you have to read the entire 11 page Index to spot the museum. How many tourists, or Parisians for that matter, would know that the Museum is located in a section of Paris with this name? And so it goes for literally hundreds of other small museums and places of interest. There is a simple fix for this aggravating problem: expand the Index so that all important sites are listed alphabetically by name and not just by geographical districts in Paris. As it is presently organized, the Green Guide is a book written by experts FOR people who already know Paris well. And certainly better than I do! I know the Parc Monceau, with its statues and picturesque pond, but I have never ever heard anyone say there is a neighborhood in Paris called "Pleine et Parc Monceau!"

HASH(0x922b399c) étoiles sur 5 updated BUT is it better??? review UPDATED 26 mars 2013

I was looking forward to the updated Green Guide but now that it has arrived I'm not so sure.
I like the new layout...sites listed by arrondissement. I'm still evaluating content.

The one thing that I really don't like. By making it 3/4" shorter and not much thicker, they have
used less margin in the crease. The guide is very stiff and difficult (for me, I have arthritis) to spread open..
At first I thought the font size was smaller but comparing it ...it is the same. The maps however are smaller.
I might have to take a small magnifier with me. The finish of the paper is duller so the print doesn't stand
out as well as on the glossier paper. The 6 blank pages in the back for notes have been replaced by
6 pages of Michelin advertisements....really?!!!

This may be nit-picky but the Green Guide has always been the BEST Paris travel guide...I expected more.

ADDENDUM: This guide was so bad, I ended up leaving it in Paris. The only thing I used it for was to rip out the maps to take with me on day trips. The format that I thought was a nice update did not offer nearly as much information as previous editions. In NO WAY is this edition an improvement over the previous format!!! Change that 4 star recommendation to a 1 star. ( I have been to Paris 5 times and would not think of going without my green guide; perhaps a first time traveler would find this useful...I certainly did not.)

HASH(0x922b3b4c) étoiles sur 5 horrible index 12 janvier 2014

Imagine that you wanted to look up L'Orangerie (one of the premier museums in Paris). You'd better know it's located in the Jardins des Tuileries, because that's where you'll find it, as a sub-topic. I repeatedly could not find items like that and it was very frustrating. I had used Michelin guides in the past and was very pleased by their accessibility. This one is an exercise in frustration.

HASH(0x922b3384) étoiles sur 5 The Best Paris Resource for History, Sights & Landmarks. 11 avril 2013

I have the 2006 edition of the Paris Green Guide. It seems to be all encompassing. You get the feeling every building of note is in there. The Index is magnificent. There's a listing for "Museums" which is quite handy because to find a museum in the general index, you have to know the French name which doesn't always correspond to what the museum is all about.

Hotels & restaurants are listed, but it is not as complete as the general guide...Frommer or Fodor. But that's not why you buy the Green Guide.

In short, this is the best Paris guide for a longer stay or a repeat visitor to Paris. For a 3-4 day one-shot visit, there's too much information here.

With this in mind, I purchased the 2012 edition. The index was a shocking disappointment. There is no longer a central index listing of museums. The police museum is gone altogether. The museum of Jewish history & art is listed under "J" as "Judaism", no indication that it's a museum.

I was so dissatisfied, I returned it & will stick with my 2006 edition until they do a better job with the index.

The index problem does not detract from the Green Guide as a resource. It is fabulous. But accessing the information in the Guide is hampered by the re-organization of the Index.

HASH(0x922b54c8) étoiles sur 5 Thanks to previous reviews I know what NOT to buy 10 juin 2014

I planned to buy Michelin Green Guide of Paris, and I took my time reading reviews.
The opinions are unanimous that the index is terrible and the reader is unable to find his way in it.
I will not buy the 2012 edition but the previous 2006 edition. I am sure it will be sufficient, even if not the latest.
