Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

This is the industry’s most comprehensive, realistic, and useful guide to Microsoft Lync Server 2010. It brings together “in-the-trenches” guidance for all facets of planning, integration, deployment, and administration, from expert consultants who’ve spent years implementing Microsoft Unified Communications solutions.

The authors first introduce Microsoft Lync Server 2010 and show how it represents a powerful leap beyond earlier unified communications platforms. They systematically cover every form of communication Lync Server can manage, including IP voice, instant messaging, audio/video conferencing, web conferencing, and more. You’ll find expert guidance on planning infrastructure, managing day-to-day operations, enforcing security, troubleshooting problems, and many other crucial topics.

Drawing on their extensive experience, the authors combine theory, step-by-step configuration instructions, and best practices from real enterprise environments. They identify common mistakes and present proven solutions and workarounds. Simply put, this book tells you what works–and shows you how to make it work.

  • Plan and manage server roles, including Front End, Edge, Monitoring, Archiving, and Director roles
  • Understand Lync Server integration with Active Directory, DNS, certificates, and SQL Server

I purchased this book yesterday and was able to get a working standard edition install running in my test lab in a few hours. The info there was accurate and helpful. There are lots of tips, but they should have included one for creating a Certificate Services server. Very good info for a beginner.

I saved a few bucks by buying the kindle edition.

I just downloaded Kindle edition today, and anxiously awaiting paperback copy. This book is pretty massive and does much more than just wet your appetite for Lync Server 2010. It covers everything from planning and deployment, to monitoring and high availability. I was pleasantly surprised to even see a chapter that covered monitoring Lync with System Center Operations Manager (SCOM). If you're a new Lync administrator or a seasoned Microsoft UC veteran, this book should be part of your library. I especially like that the book includes planning in the end.

One thing to note is that the book references SQL Server 2008 R2 in several sections. At the time of this review, SQL 2008 R2 is not supported as back-end for Lync Server 2010 (SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 only). However I would expect SQL 2008 R2 to be supported in the future.

****Update on 4/25/2010****

SQL Server 2008 R2 is now officially suppored for Lync Back-End.

I used this for my Lync deployment and it really helped. But like all things Microsoft, all the answers you need are not in this book. You'll have to rely on multiple different sources, but this book contains a lot of great info. I would say it's a must for any newbie doing a Lync deployment.

Not sure if I have read the same book as others who made reviews here. This book is really bad and I regret buying it.

I have implemented Lync whit technical partner in our company and wanted to have solid background about what I am doing and what consequences it will have. But have found no answers in this book.

If you want to know hot to click button next and you doesn't want to know, better to say you doesn't care why, then this is book for you. Just don't look for any real world best practice, tips for tasks you will face when you will administer Lync or any explanation for what the book will tell you to do. You just have to skip passages that doesn't have to do anything with Lync and I have a feeling that they are there only for the book to have enough pages to be sold for this price.

I doesn't blame the book nor the author, just me for choosing this book. I am not the right person for this book.

I did not much like the packaging of the book as it was opened. The cover of the book is very thin as compared to ther MS books which i bought earlier. The overall quality of the book is not very much impressive

The content of the book is good though
