Présentation de l'éditeur

Do you find yourself ruminating about things you can't control? Worrying about those yet-to-complete goals and projects? What about just feeling like you're not the person you want to be?

People who worry and ruminate find it difficult to stop anxiously anticipating future events and regretting or rethinking past actions. Left unchecked, this tendency can lead to mental health problems such as depression and generalized anxiety disorder. The Mindful Path Through Worry and Rumination offers powerful mindfulness strategies derived from Buddhist spiritual practices and proven psychological techniques to help you stop overthinking what you can't control-the future and the past-and learn how to find contentment in the present moment.

I've read many books over the years but this one is the best book in addressing my feelings of lingering unhappiness, anxiety about the future, regrets about my past and the sense that something was missing from my life. I'm so impressed by it that it compelled me to write my first review. After just reading it once, I already see my life differently because it made me realize it was my pattern of thinking (ruminating) that was causing my unhappiness and anxiety.I've read other books that stresses living in the moment but this is the first one that ties it in with anxiety in a way that make sense perfectly. It will take a while for me to completely learn this new way of thinking, and of course I'll have some slips and when I do,I have this wonderful book to guide me back. If I can only keep one book from my collection, it would be this one. Highly recommend it.

Dr. Kumar has taken ancient truths and made them modern and applicable to the 21st century. His writing style is easy to read and engaging. I have already recommended this book to so many of my students because he presents the scientific research findings on health and wellness in a way that makes them real and attainable. I could not recommend this book more strongly and wholeheartedly!

HASH(0x91321bdc) étoiles sur 5 Eloquent & full of insights 1 août 2011

I am a good friend and colleague of Dr. Kumar - so let that factor into this review, but I can say wholeheartedly his book is a wonderful read - I've gone back to it time and time again and I've found it chock full of insights - both in my own life and mind and also in my private practice in cognitive-behavior therapy. Dr. Kumar draws on his extensive experience as a practicing Buddhist and his background in current psychological approaches for dealing with rumination to write a unique book that integrates traditional Buddhist viewpoints with contemporary research on anxiety and rumination. I very strongly recommend this book to anyone grappling with chronic anxiety as well as clinicians seeking knowledge about mindfulness in the context of rumination.

Kumar is a trained psychologist as well as a Buddhist, a Buddhist Psychotherapist who works with cancer patients at Memorial Cancer Institute of the Memorial Healthcare System in Broward County, FL. His observations here are equally grounded in both modern psychology and Buddhist philosophy. It takes a person of real authenticity to make these connections. His prose is clear, his emotion is warm, and on a personal level I can tell you that he is the real deal, a true human being. There are clear thoughts here to guide us--all of us perplexed--and I heartily recommend.

HASH(0x916e03c0) étoiles sur 5 A must-have for depressed ruminators 5 décembre 2013

If depressive ruminations are ruining your life, this book might help. It's the only non-technical book that I can find that addresses this serious problem.

Dr. Kumar promotes "mindfulness". This "involves witnessing thoughts as they arise, without feeding them, while mostly focusing your awareness on your breath". He writes that science supports this approach.

The book promotes Buddhist teachings but does not preach or proselytize. I was a bit turned off though, when he refers to the Dalai Lama as "His Holiness". Nevertheless, I recommend this book for those suffering from depressive ruminations. As soon as I finished reading it, I started again from the beginning.
