Présentation de l'éditeur

A man dies in hospital from cardiac arrest. After thirty minutes of clinical death, a phone call to Joao de Deus (John of God), hundreds of miles away in central Brazil, raises the man from death, completely healed, verified by his doctors. Is Joao a modern Christ? Read this riveting account of the greatest healer of our time. When people, totally paralyzed, rise from their wheelchairs and the profoundly blind have their eyesight restored, when modern medicine has given up on them, one feels deeply stirred to ask some fundamental questions. Joao de Deus puts our reality at risk, defying the certainties of medical science, forcing us to replace it with one of hope and joy. The story of Joao de Deus shakes the bedrock of common beliefs, kindling an ancient memory that ring only too true; that with love all things are possible. --Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Broché .

A very good book for all those interested in spiritual healing via discarnate entity incorporation.
However, more of the healer's background would have been of interest. How and why did these manifestations begin? I had read John G. Fuller's book on "ARIGO -- Surgeon of the Rusty Knife" years ago and found it to be rather fascinating. Arigo's healing was primarily through the entity of Dr. Fritz, as I recall ....a deceased German MD. Arigo, who spoke only Portugese, spoke in German when incorporated, and wrote scripts for herbs in German as well. Joao, does much the same but utilzes numerous discarnate entities. The latter also uses "invisible surgeries," something I don't recall Arigo's entities doing. The comparisons between the two is interesting, but Pellegrino-Estrich's book only mentions Arigo in passing. There apparently are other Brazilian Spiritual Healers as well as Joao and deceased Arigo. The latter was in civil service at the local level and had no interest in healing whatsoever. But he started having dreams in which he was told that he should do healing work. He ignored them, but they kept recurring. He was told, in his dreams that if he did not comply with these orders, he would begin having headaches. And he did, and he continued to resist, and he was again warned and told to comply with the request. He was instructed that the headaches would increase in severity, which they did. Finally, he got tired of the suffering and gave in! At least that is how John Fuller tells it. He's in and out of trouble with the medical societies and authorities, and is routinely locked up. But he is such a nice guy, and cures some guard or a guard's family member, and so his cell door is inadvertedly left open, and out he wonders. Thus I was interested to see how it was that Joao got his start, but no details regarding such were forthcoming. Except to say that it began at age 16. At any rate, the book on Joao is an enjoyable read.

I have read this at least twice and found it both amazing and sad. Amazing because of the selfless giving of a unique and gifted man who takes healing to a new dimension with full transparency, yet sad that many of those he has helped in nothing short of a miraculous way throw him in prison because he does not fit into societal norms of what is acceptable and non threatening.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Heart-felt book - many typos 16 août 2005

The first half of the book was like rafting through the rapids. I would be flowing with the words and then was jarred by the typos and poor sentence structure. I found the book informative, but had difficulty getting the message out of some of the paragraphs.

By the second half of the book I was engrossed in the details of John of God's life and the typos were not as evident.

The book is written with a lot of heart, but the message is not easy to grasp. The publisher should have hired a proofreader before printing.

I traveled to Abadiania, Brazil to search for spiritual help with my physical and mental needs. This book has and added a larger dimension of my trip and will help me when I return for my second trip.

The book is great but it was used and smelled like synthetic fragrance perfume. I can't keep it and it ruined the enjoyment of reading it. Even pure essential flower oils wouldn't cover it over time.
