Le remix de Darren Emerson est un des plus grands morceaux de Bjork. Dansant, profond, émouvant, céleste, un must have.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I Miss You Pt. 1 A Great Single Wrapping up the Post era 15 octobre 2012
Par Jordan P 23 - Publié sur
Format: CD
I'm a big Björk fan from the pre-sugarcubes days to the most recent Biophilia re-mixes I enjoy it all as a sincere and heart felt emotional and audio journey. I Miss You Pt. 1 contains the title track two remixes and a great b-side. I'll break down everything and do an overall rating of the disc.

I Miss You Pt. 1 was released originally in February 10th 1997 after Telegram and being the sixth single wrapped up the exciting and brilliant Post era of Björk's career, Homogenic and the first single Jóga would be released in September 1997. Like the title track this was an accessible, fun and nostalgic look back and like every Björk release thought and care was put into the making so it would be repayable and thoughtful in the context of the whole album and era. While there is a dated sound to the tracks it's really part of the charm and again fit's the theme of I Miss You and Post's nods to past world history (Oh So Quiet, parts of the isobel story, Modern Things, etc.). Visually Me Company's and Ren and Stimpy artists Spümcø/John K's art is really enjoyable and well worth taking in. There are lots of small jokes in Post releases with text and visuals, so you'll be taking out the insert from time to time and finding new quirks. If you're a fan it's well worth picking up and earns a 4.5/5.

Track 1. I Miss You
Sounds great here and is just a fun jolt of a song overall. Lyrically, musically and visually the whole thing is a ball of nerves and comes as a kick in the pants in album context after Possibly Maybe. The track was made with Howie B and in true Björk fashion the collaboration brings out the best of both artist. Overall its Post at it's truest busy, partying and creating with everyone, musically arresting and emotional honest. 5/5

Track 2. I Miss You (Dobie's Rub Part Two It's A Hip Hop Thing)
A great mix that hit's you a few seconds in with an active and heavy Trip Hop drum and bass beat and soaring ambient textures added to Björk's voice that really give this song a chill and cool feel, definitely night cruising music. The Hop in this mix is provided by Rodney P of the London Posse's rap that rises and drops nicely back into the overall sound-scape. Rodeny P has a Caribbean feel to his voice and lyrically his flow really compliments the waiting and romantic crush theme of I Miss You with Rodney providing the masculine perspective of seeing somebody and wanting to hook up. The track just pours out and Björk's vocals have additional glossolalia that may have recorded specifically for this track or expertly remixed. Over all the freshest sounding non title track 5/5

Track 3. I Miss You (Darren Emerson Underwater Mix)
The longest track on the disc, clocking in just under 10 minutes it starts with small aqua bubble sound effects that are overtaken by a great old school Techno beat, ambient under water canyon effects, cymbals and Björk's vocals which mix between the clean main track mix and fade out in a great echo effect. The song really starts to kick in at two minutes with beautiful sun shine pings and other techno beats that coast along an already active foundation. Musically it's masterfully mixed by Darren Emerson at the appropriately titled Underwater Studios with each element being given a enough space to avoid becoming muddled or cacophonous. Personally this track reminds of Miami, Florida or some Caribbean destination with a sunshine happy feel and a serene water element. Really positive, really beautiful and something that makes you want to move and celebrate life. Easy to see why it's a favorite in the other great reviews on here 4.5/5

Track 4. Karvel
Well placed after the Underwater mix Karvel shares the same great rolling and fluid Techno sound courtesy of Graham Massey who recorded the track in 1991 with Björk during their collaboration on the 808 State album Ex:El and the birthing sessions of Debut. The song is sung with heart and gusto in Icelandic with "I love you" sung in English as part of the chorus. The song when translated reads as an odd message with a spiritual edge with Björk giving warning to a friend or family member about not trusting in a group with an easily digestible dogma. Explaining both the danger that dogma presents and the behind the scenes menace such an acceptance invites, it reads similar in tone to the song Army of Me. The vocal delivery, fluttering tones and bell sounds of the track offset the heavy message making it much more about moving forward. You can sense a lot of love overall and if anything it's the brilliant song version of a from the heart talk to a love one not to seek surroundings that allow you to shut down. An honest end to a great release and Karvel gets 5/5.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to covering much of Björk's other releases and many other life enriching things. Enjoy.

Whoah!! They've re-released it! The two "I Miss You" singles were originally limited to 2,000 pressings. These have proven to be some of the better, more long-wearing Björk singles in my collection. Even those who only love the "happy, dancey Björk" will not be disappointed. I MISS YOU in its original form here is a stunning, five star Björk classic that you should already own on "Post"! I MISS YOU - DOBIE PT 2 is another accessible hiphop variation (better than PT 1, if I recall correctly). I MISS YOU - DARREN EMERSON is a great synthy, long & upbeat, trancey dance remix from the beloved Underworld man. KARVEL is a great nonalbum track to have, only officially available from this single. Done with Graham Massey, it is an upbeat, dancey pop song complete with quirks and electro sound, fully sung in Icelandic! I MISS YOU SINGLE PT 1 I highly recommended to rabid fans and collectors. (I also recommend part two, but I only gave that one four stars since most of those songs are also found on other discs.)

I'm so awestruck!
This contains not only the awesome title track, but a 10 minute dance-Ø-riffic remix of it, as well as a brilliant, hip-hop~ish "Dobie" mix of it! It's so ambrosial and undeniable! And not only do we get THESE, my Björk~followers, but a showstopping, fun, groovy bonus track in Icelandic, called "Karvel". And the lyrics to this song (do a google search for all her lyrics to find the translation;), are very insightful and wickedly_cool!_!
So buy this gem!
Buy it now, I say! :D :>
