HASH(0x90394b10) étoiles sur 5 Excellent 80's Heavy Metal Music 5 avril 2008
Par Brother MOLOCH 969 - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
Frankly I could give a rat's behind about 80's bands having long hair or mullets - it was a thang. No worse than every 90's copy band having bald headed guys in their midst or guitar playing in drop D tuning - it's all just whatever becomes popular, copy bands will do.

This CD rocks. I love the opening track "Give It All You Got" and rank it right up there with any 80's guitar shredding metal music. This came out around the time LA Guns "Cocked & Loaded" came out and I used to hear Shy's "Give It" in rotation with Guns' "I Wanna Be Your Man".

Another great track on here is "Money" and it's one of those social songs that points out the obvious yet nevertheless rings true. You gotta have money & everyone has their price. Another cool track is "Burnin' Up" which has some cool guitar riffs and vocals.

Overall I'll play this CD along with my LA Guns, Slaughter, Damn Yankees, Stryper, Lizzie Borden, Y&T, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard & Guns & Roses hits. If you like guitar metal and high pitched vocals, this is a great CD to enjoy. Recommended.

HASH(0x90394618) étoiles sur 5 A little change 4 février 2006

What can I say about Tony Mills' voice? Honey poured over thunder is what comes to mind. Polished vocals as always but with a little growl a la Ratt...just for good measure. The guitar work from Steve Harris is intense. For those fans of Shy, this is quite a leap from the Shy of old. A bit more aggressive. Think "Break Down the Walls" (Excess All Areas) on a regular basis. Really tight. Reason I only give it 4 stars is that after listening to "When the Love is Over" (Excess...) I consider the ballads on this album to be a little weak. Aside from that, it's a great piece of work. For those of you air guitar virtuosos and metal heads out there you won't be disappointed. Great album indeed.

HASH(0x903940cc) étoiles sur 5 Shy's weakest effort 5 juillet 2006
Par Justin G. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
It is obvious listening to 1989's Misspent Youth that Shy (called Shy England for the album's US release) was running low on ideas. The band sounds good, and Tony Mills's distinct voice is as strong as ever, but the band seemed to embrace as many hair metal clichés as possible for this album. There's not a song on the album that couldn't have appeared on a Poison or Warrant album. Tony Mills's voice, which is remarkably similar to TNT's Tony Harnell, is the only element on Misspent Youth that really stands out.

That's not to say Misspent Youth is a bad album. It's a solid enough hair metal disc, but the band, which emerged from the NWOBHM scene to make some amazing melodic hard rock albums, was capable of so much better. It's hard to square this album with better efforts like Brave the Storm.

A lot of bands in this genre hit the wall at some point (for most it seemed to happen in 1993). Fortunately Shy rebounded and released better albums since this one. If you're a Shy fan, obviously you're going to want to get this at some point. If you're new to the band, you really ought to pick a different album to start with.

HASH(0x90390b94) étoiles sur 5 LONG LIVE HARD ROCK 25 novembre 2005
Par E. Calderon Duran - Publié sur Amazon.com

excellent band, stop saying that they need a little help with the songwriting, hard rock and glam metal its only having fun, is not that serious as other types of metal, the voice is awesome, the drums, the guitars and the bass also, i like a lot this band and i thnik they should be more bands like this in our days because glam and hard rock is almost dead except for the big bands, LONG LIVE FOREVER HARD ROCK

This was the first CD that I purchased from Shy and I must say that I really love it! After hearing this one, I was yearning for more from this band, so I went out and purchased nearly every album in their catalogue (that should tell you how much I liked this one!). Anyway, it seems that Misspent Youth was the only album where the band applied their particular brand of hair metal music. Their other albums are pretty good but this is one that I would consider their BEST, contrary to some of the other reviews.

In my opinion, there is not a bad song at all on this album. Shy seems to incorporate some of the BEST aspects of hair metal music on this album and it just doesn't ever let you down. You have driving rhythms, melodic guitars, soulful ballads (with requisite guitar solos), great vocals and some great fist pumping tunes that will have your blood pumping and your head nodding for sure. These guys remind me of a mix of Slaughter, Skid Row, Europe and a few others like this (at least on THIS particular album). If you are a fan of the 80s metal scene, you cannot go wrong on this one. It really is a tremendous album for this genre and deserves more recognition.
