HASH(0x937f1c54) étoiles sur 5 This book is a gem for playful parenting! The math concepts are just icing on the cake. 29 décembre 2013

I find it incredibly difficult to play with my children. I have bought all sorts of toddler/preschooler activity idea books that either involve groups of children or a mess of crafts, neither of which make play easy. This book, while intending to expose young children to math concepts, provides many simple ideas to bring out the playful parent in fun-challenged people. The math skills are a bonus that come along with a better relationship with one's child.

This little book packs a great deal of math education and early education research in it. Written by a mathematician and educator, it introduces young children to the gems of mathematical thinking at the very early age. The activities were pilot-tested in mathematical circles around the country, and proven to be exciting and captivating to the children. This book makes a wonderful gift, too.

Math was never my favorite class. Studying Montessori I learned that math didn't need to be scary. Now I'm learning that math is interesting and beautiful! Moebius Noodles shows me how to be playful with math. I would recommend this book to teachers and parents of young children who want to eliminate "math anxiety." I look forward to more from the authors.

I bought this a few months ago and just realised how much it has changed the way we all think about maths. My one year old pointed to the snowflake on Frozen the other day and said 'fractal' - before this book I'd never heard of the word! It's an informative book (If like me you don't have much of a maths background, please read the glossary at the back first - it will be very helpful); and it's a practical book with lots of activity ideas. It isn't a curriculum, more a way to spark ideas. If maths begins with mathematical thinking, then this book is the place to begin your thinking.

HASH(0x937164b0) étoiles sur 5 Great resource for helping families enjoy math together 4 décembre 2013

Very useful. All the parents in my homeschool group wanted to take it home with them. They kept saying "I wasn't sure how to do math with my young kids... but I can do these things..." Many good ideas about ways to present advanced math concepts (symmetry, arrays, fractals, functions) to kids as young as toddlers. Flexible ideas can be used even with pre-teens. Lots of games and silly examples that help even math-phobic adults understand that they actually can develop an intuitive grasp of these abstract concepts. Better yet: most of the games and activities can be done at home with minimal supplies (paper/pencil/mirrors/toys).
