4.0 étoiles sur 5 I see with absolute certainty that every good thing in them lives and their hearts’ has come ... 27 janvier 2015

Format: Broché
I’m thankful for the review copy from The Book Club Network that helped me pray more effectively and confidently for my sons. The author says, “As I look at both of my boys, I see with absolute certainty that every good thing in them lives and their hearts’ has come from God. No matter who much I care for and love them, I can’t make them who I want them to be. I can’t keep them safe. I can’t control their future in their choices. I can’t be the perfect mother to tell myself they need. I look at them and at myself and realized that without God, we are lost.

As that truth has taken deeper root in my heart and mind, it has pushed me to pray like never before. For many of my parenting years, I took a “my work plus prayer will get it done.” approach. And while I am devoted to all five of my children, I now see that in the end my efforts will fade away compared to what the lord brings about in their lives.

There is freedom found in placing my children in God’s hands. When I release them to him I am set free from worry. When I trust him to work out his salvation in their lives, I don’t have to be their conscious and their judge. When I meditate on his constant love and mercy toward them, I can let go of resentment and anger over their weakness…when I pray and let God be God to them, I am free to just be me….As I pray I hear, “Little one, Little one, you can rest. I hear you. I love you. I love your child. I am here and I will always be. Be still and wait because I am going to do more than you can imagine.” And I dry my tears and take a deep breath and I have peace.”

I like how this book is set up to make it easy reference to find the prayers you need when you need it. Samples of prayer titles: All start out FOR WHEN HE NEEDS; God’s salvation, When He’s angry, Afraid, Angry, Feels inferior, Needs to tell the truth, Needs wisdom, When he’s proud, He’s grieving, When he’s stressed, Rejected, Attached by enemy, Pressure to fit in, Negative attitude, When I don’t know how to pray.

Prayers start out with scriptures typed out for easy reference and gives translation she quotes from. Then she gives the prayers. Here’s a sample, “Lord, My son looks at everyone around him and feels that he doesn’t measure up. He doesn’t feel strong, smart or talented. He doesn’t feel valued or appreciated.

My son has forgotten who you say he is. Your Word says he is made in your image, and that what you made is very good. (Gen 1:27-31. He needs assurance that his life is not merely an accident, but lovingly planned and created by you in every detail. Give him the power to trust in your incredible love for him that is beyond our understanding.

…Use me to build up my son. Show me how to encourage him when he’s feeling down… THANK YOU for creating my son and allowing me to share in his life. You are everything he needs – let him find his strength and joy in you. Amen.”

This book has encouraged me and changed my prayer life.

"A Mom's Prayers for Her Son" by Rob & Joanna Teigen is a book where its title says what it is. Each chapter has a subject title, then has scripture and the actual prayer. Some chapters have personal stories from different moms with their sons. To be honest this book was not what I thought it was, I did not think that it would be actual prayers in it I was thinking it was more about teaching prayer. I don't know why but I can read prayers that are in scripture but have issues reading other peoples prayers. However I did enjoy the stories from other mom's and their sons. It does deal with prayers for serious issues such as addiction which is nice as not all books do that. I do recommend this book even though I am not a fan of it.

I received this book from Revell a division of Baker Publishing Group and was not required to give a positve review.

There’s nothing like becoming a mother to ratchet up the frequency, sincerity, and desperation of one’s prayer life. My husband and I had four boys in eight years, and I was horrified to realize that a new blender comes with more instructions than a new baby. Furthermore, the advice that comes from well-meaning friends and relatives is usually a confusing kaleidoscope of conflicting information.

Sometimes, even as we pray, we reveal that same lack of focus. During the toddler years, we pray that our boys will be healthy, strong and creative, knowing all the while that their vigor, power and ingenuity may be the death of our living room furniture.. As they grow, we pray that they will be humble servant-leaders, even as we storm the heavens on their behalf that they will make every team, nail every audition, and excel in school. Then, just as most mothers are becoming hormonally-crazed, middle-aged, and exhausted, their sons begin to test the limits of parental authority, the reality of their faith, and their mother’s sanity. What are the right words to pray, when you’re no longer sure what you want God to do?

Rob and Joanna Teigen have issued a call to prayer for the mothers of sons, and they have taken it a step further by offering the gift of words for all seasons of our boys’ lives. A mom who wishes to pray for her boy during good times and bad will find help for all the “whens” of life: when he’s going through a storm, when he’s grieving, when he’s stressed, when he needs to be generous, when he’s making plans for his future, and even when he’s having fun! The seventy-seven written prayers are interspersed with encouragement to pray for all the many facets of a young man’s life, as well as personal accounts from popular authors or bloggers who have seen God work in the lives of their sons through their motherly prayers.

I especially appreciated the realism which infuses the book. Christian mothers have been counseled over the years to dance dangerously close to the edge of determinism in their parenting: “If you, the mother, do or pray for “X,” then you can be assured that your believing child will do “Y.” Joanna maintains this view:

“No matter how much I care for and love them , I can’t make them who I want them to be. I can’t keep them safe. I can’t control their future or their choices. I can’t be the perfect mother I tell myself they need. I look at them and at myself and realize that without God, we are lost.”

This book is a treasure that will encourage a lifetime of intercession, and also stands to enhance the mother/son relationship by increased understanding. This is a book that I will give to my daughter-in-law as she and I together pray for my first grandson.

I received this book free from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255

I have three boys, and I have to admit, it is sometimes difficult to know what to pray for. They are different than girls. I grew up with girls. Learning how boys think, how they interact, and what they will face in their lives can be a daunting task. I want them to have character, a love for God, kindness for others, compassion, and the list goes on. Where to begin? Fortunately for those of us who know Christ, we have the Bible that guides us and gives us wisdom. And we also have the wisdom of others who have travelled this road before us.

A Mom's PrayersThis is why A Mom's Prayers for Her Son is such a wonderful book! The authors, Rob & Joanna Teigen, don't just talk about praying for your son, they pull verses out of the Bible that can be prayed over your son during those times when you don't know which way to turn, along with prayers written out to give you an idea of what to pray.

The book is divided into 77 sections which cover a problem, a concern, or a victory that your son may be experiencing including:

When He Feels Inferior
When He Covets More
When He Needs God's Salvation
When He Needs to Stay Pure
When He Needs Wisdom
When He Needs His Dad
When He Feels Pressure to Achieve
When He Needs to Honor His Parents
and more.

Knowing that we are not alone in raising our sons is such a comfort and help. Stories by several different mothers who speak of problems and concerns they have had for their sons have been sprinkled throughout the book. Nothing gives comfort quite like knowing we are not alone in raising our sons. Many other women are also going through it.

If you want to learn more about calling on God for your son, then you will want to pick up this book. It will guide and direct you on this very important journey.

Title: A Mom’s Prayers for Her Son
Authors: Rob & Joanna Teigen
Publisher: Revell
ISBN: 978-0-8007-2261-6

“Lord, Thank you for the gift of my son. He has been created by you, and his life has been planned before the beginning of time. Your love for him is greater than I can comprehend. I know it is your desire that he come to a full knowledge of you,” Joanna and Rob Teigen write in their book, "A Mom’s Prayers for Her Son: Praying for Every Part of His Life."

This one hundred and ninety-two page paperback targets mothers who are searching for help when praying for their sons. Using mainly the New International Version of the Holy Bible, the ESV, God’s Word, and NET BIBLE are also referenced. Notes, the authors’ biographies, and advertisements for other books written complete the book. This reader wishes all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence.

Being a mother is not always easy but the love for a child, especially a son, is indescribable. Letting God take over the child’s life is one of the hardest things for a parent to do. In this short book by two married authors that have five children, the focus is on praying to God for their sons.

After praises of the book and words by each author, seventy-seven prayers are given, based on specific topics. Interspersed are fifteen short articles relating to sons, in regard to God and His purpose.

From the day the son is born to adult life and its challenges, prayers cover topics of salvation, character, and loving as well as living for God, honoring parents, and serving others. Also discussed are fear, anger, lying, addiction, pride, and rebellion. As the son matures, friends, school, dating, marriage, work, and relationships are mentioned.

Each topic begins with several italicized Bible verses written out. The prayers are one to two pages long, pleading and pouring out concerns and feelings to the Almighty. In a different font, the writers and individuals’ inserts are randomly placed, covering up to five pages.

Even though there are personal stories interjected about mothers and their sons, the prayers do not mention particular circumstances or people. They are heartfelt and can easily bring emotions to the mother reading it, asking for God’s direction in the situation.

What makes this book special is that every mother can find something to relate to regarding her son and pray specifically for that issue. One only has to flip to a topic and get on her knees, praying for Christ’s guidance.

Thanks to The Book Club Network and Revell for furnishing this complimentary book in exchange for a review based on the reader’s honest opinion.
