Look for music with a repetitive use of facts, not this
le 11 mai 2017 - Publié sur Amazon.com
I am a teacher who has used various songs to learn facts in my classroom for years now. It was only natural that when my children needed help with their math facts that I would look for songs to help them remember. I wish I would have kept the ones I had used in the classroom. The problem with this is that it doesn't offer enough repetition of the facts for the kids to remember, instead it goes right into testing mode-- and then if they didn't hear them correctly they start to learn it incorrectly very fast. A good math song would offer multiple repetitions of the facts with songs that sound unique enough that they hold the memory. I can still hear the multiplication songs I learned as a fifth grader 30+ years ago. That is the type of memory aid that a student needs. The songs themselves are cute, but won't accomplish for many students what the person is trying to accomplish.

Really works for teaching addition
le 10 mai 2010 - Publié sur Amazon.com
This CD has a song from a distinct musical genre for each number fact, which was really helpful to my daughter to mentally sort out the different math facts. It also has an interactive portion of each song which has been engaging for my daughter. One of the hard parts of memorizing addition facts is that kids are supposed to memorize 65 different sets of numbers (for sums from 1 through 10; this album has 1 through 12)that all sound very similar. I knew it was this album that helped her learn addition when I would quiz her on her math facts for her school homework and she would respond with the exact accent of the singer for the particular leading number for the equation. And I really knew she was interested in this album when she reeled off the nines for a neighbor, telling her they were her favorite math facts (echoing the character on the CD)when she's only on the threes at school. That neighbor asked me to loan her our copy for her daughter who's almost two years older, but I'm not ready to part with it. We listen to it on our drive to and from school every day, and even though the songs are terribly corny, they are even starting to grow on her preteen sister. I just wish I had had this CD for her, because it has made learning math facts painless and fun for her little sister.

Cute songs, but still repetitive chanting of facts
le 12 mars 2012 - Publié sur Amazon.com
This is my 2nd attempt to find something that will make learning addition facts fun. The first was like elevator music - so this is an improvement on that. However, I'm still in search of something that will give varying tones to each fact to make it more memorable. Mondo Math gives a cute 45 second lead in and each song is unique (btw, my daughter can't stand the hillbilly in the 4s - but the others are fine/funny). I like the unique songs and will still listen to this. But it chants each fact in a repetitive way. 4+3=7 is in the same tone as 4+4=8. There isn't really a memory hook for each math fact. I wanted a high note for one followed by a low note for another, like a regular song has.

It's slightly creative with different voices for each song, and does make sure they aren't just saying their numbers by mixing up the order they go in (forwards, backwards, evens/odds) on some of the songs. Mind numbing as an adult, but the kids are starting to catch on.
Not as good as I had hoped

Not as good as I had hoped. The songs weren't very catchy, and although the genre changed for each new fact, the formula was essentially the same (so not a great mnemonic in my opinion). My kids (age 7 and 5) and I gave this about three listens to be fair and have retired it from the repertoire.
