Même si l'on entend pas les les petits riffs caractéristiques de Ron Ashton à la guitare (qui est à la basse dans cet album) .. il n'en reste pas moins qu'ils y a de bons morceaux comme "gimme more skin" ou "I got a right" ... bien punk!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 When You Don't Know What Else to Buy From The Stooges, Buy This 8 août 2009
Par A. Woodley - Publié sur

This is not an album to start with when getting into The Stooges. Start with their first three studio albums: The Stooges, Funhouse, and Raw Power. Once you gotten those and are looking for more, you'll find that their are numerous collections of lost Stooges material from the Raw Power era. A lot of these lost era compilations are made up of the same material repackaged over and over. The quality varies on these collections from alright to horrible. Start with the collections Original Punks or Penetration. They have the best sound quality cuts from the era but this collection offers a few nice tracks that the other two don't. More Power has the best (sound quality wise) versions of "She Creatures of the Hollywood Hills," "Born in a Tariler," "I'm a Man," and "Till the End of the Night," that I have ever heard, and I have listened to many of these lost Stooges compilations. The versions of "Give Me Some Skin," "I Got a Right," "Tight Pants," and many others are not bad quality wise but you will find better versions on Original Punks or Penetration. What I'm getting at is that you will need both collections.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 and here they are again. The none album Stooges tracks (with rerecorded parts?) 21 juillet 2013

For all intensive purposes, this is the mythic original fourth Stooges album.

These songs have been rereleased about as often as The Who have greatest hits packages. If you step foot in a really cool music store which actually has a massive Stooges selection to choose from (they do still exist out there), chances are you'll see I'm Sick of You, Cock In My Pocket, Gimme Some Skin, Head On and She Creatures of the Hollywood Hills on about 10 titles. For years, small record companies tried to compile the missing Stooges studio tracks. Sound quality (often hollow and muffled, some with the pops and crackles from LPs) is what sunk much of those releases. This Cleopatra release has a good loud mix similar to the Iggy remix of Raw Power. It isn't as clean as Raw Power but neither are the songs.

This collection IS ALL of the straggling Stooges tracks which never made it onto any album (or as bonus tracks of their existing studio albums) and there are alot of them, 18 tracks on this release. In fact, there may be too much on this release because some of the tracks are genuinely bad. Money, Till the End of the Night, Louie Louie sound lousy enough to be performed by Sid Vicious trying to play all the instruments. They are well below the standard The Stooges already established

Being intimate with this material, I noticed some changes in the sound of the instruments on songs Johanna and Head On. Both songs sound like they have some instrumetal parts newly recorded and dubed into the original demos. What's wrong with this is Iggy's vocals and Williamson's lead guitar remain muffled in the mix. I prefer the original versions. These songs and "Open Up and Bleed" sound like the new Stooges trying to do old Stooges. I applaud the producers of this for attempting to clean up the sound of these old songs with rerecorded song parts but I wish they'd just polished up the mix instead.

There isn't much seminal material like on most of Raw Power and Fun House. The songs are grittier here than on anything else they released. You definitely get a sense of a band about to go over the edge. The songwriting and the playing on the tracks are a good indicator of this. You'd get a better sense of this if the songs were untouched and left in their original demo format and given just a cleaner mix.

Some bands split when you think they're about to take off, some others sound like they're on the brink of self destruction. The Stooges definitely sound like they were not only about implode but you'd think half the band would be dead after all the smoke cleared. The only death at that time was their original band member "Zander" who I hear was hit by a train.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Touched-up remastered studio outtakes and possibly demos.... 7 avril 2010

...but still worth hearin and interesting to own.

It is interesting to hear these kind of leftover tid-bits from the Stooges studio sessions
all packaged nicely and remastered with new fresh sound. I have been a big fan of the Stooges
since I was about 16 so I am accustomed to the usual sounds. But before you think- "Oh nah maybe I shouldnt order this one. Its remastered outtakes or somethin."- think again. How often do you SEE recent releases by these kinds of bands and especially original Stooges material? If you can get it at a cheaper deal- go for it.
If you appreciate any mysterious cool previously unheard tunes and if youre not picky about the remastering and the whole touch-up schtick - buy it. I like it. Its not as good as the other Stooges albums but its good. Just good.

An outstanding sample of Iggy and The Stooges refining material in the studio, the 18 restored/remastered tracks spanning two discs are from 1972 and 1973.

What is particularly interesting is the completeness of most numbers, though none were probably destined for a record company vault for future release. Stripped of the Jim Morrison-styled posturing and seemingly deliberate attempt to undermine the stage show for crazed performance art, Iggy is fronting a band operating on smooth, tight cylinders that crank out the riffs as solid as any group during this golden age of rock. The possible future sound (a metal edge) - if things hadn't imploded in 1974 - can be heard on the final track, "Till the End of the Night."

The lack of information on the back story of the tapes and restoration process is disappointing, but the music does the talking on the professionalism of those within the project. The set may not be the first stop for someone digging The Stooges for the first time, but it will be a destination, especially after hearing the sonic blast from "Raw Power."

A great collection of tracks. I initially purchased the record, which is pressed on blue vinyl, but got the download as well since it offers a lot more tracks. No Stooges collection should be without this!
