Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

Life is good indeed, especially if you’re a thirty-something expat living in an area of Provence where people would kill to live. And do! When Maggie’s new best friend is arrested for murder Maggie is determined to find the real culprit. Trouble is, there are a few roadblocks in her way, like an old friend on the verge of divorce who’s chosen Maggie’s house to have her nervous breakdown in, an ex-paramour who has the power to make Maggie’s life miserable—and does—and oh, yes, a killer as warped and determined as any Maggie has encountered in her four years living in France.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Narcissistic main character 16 juin 2015
Par Book Mama - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I don't think I've actually hated a main character more than I hate Maggie Newberry. She's cornered the market on narcissism, She's gonna a do what she wants to do no matter what. Never mind, she's very pregnant, her best friend shows up on her doorstep for emotional support because her marriage is falling apart, and Maggie's husband is literally begging her to stay out the latest murder investigation. Once more the smitten Roger Bedard appears, reduced to playing games with police resources to get Maggie's attention. (Seriously dude, at 8 months pregnant, could she be any more married?) Inevitably the murderer is revealed as he acts completely out of character. While the author has cleaned up her use of French, this book could have used some major editing. The author has a great backstory in Maggie's husband, Laurent, and yet she never uses him, except to rescue Maggie from some fiend. These books could be so much better. It's really disappointing.

This is very fun to read in this series! Having been raised in France as a child, all the locals, the food, the customs made me feel so at home! If you've never been to France, then this mystery novel will give you an "armchair tour" and entertain you to boot! The mysteries are not violent, only require twists and turns of your thinking! Enjoy these novels!

Just another fun mystery with Maggie in France with her handsome husband Laurent. Do I think I can believe all the silly things she gets herself into and while pregnant would any woman put her baby in such danger - are you crazy?!?! But, can't resist reading about the food, drink and atmosphere of the French countryside and just the fun mystery that Maggie puts herself and others in danger to solve.

I like this series a lot. I like the French countryside setting and life in a 300 year old house in a vineyard. Although I like Maggie Newberry's dedication to solving a mystery, I don't like that she lies to her very dedicated husband who is perfectly capable of handing the truth. I find her a little selfish, although she is mellowing a little with time. In this book, she's pregnant, and puts herself and her unborn baby in harm's way. As a mother, I'm a little disturbed by that. Still, she really believes in the innocence of her best friend Julie who is accused of murdering her unpopular ex-lover with deadly mushrooms, and she goes the distance to try and prove her innocence. When it turns out her friend may really be guilty, she is stunned. Although the story slows down in places, when it's moving fast, it's really rolling along. There are a lot of mean people and drama enough to take your breath away. I'm finally beginning to feel like I know the characters in the series enough to care about them, although some are quite neurotic, as a good French cast should be. If you want to get caught up in the evolution of the characters, I recommend this book and the whole series. However, the book can stand alone as a single read, and that's rare these days.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Delightful and Entertaining Novel 17 février 2016

I was delighted with this book. I was not familiar with the author and bought it on a whim. Parts of the novel are very funny, and the characters describe themselves as Lucy and Ethel(not quite that funny), but I often smiled and chuckled as I read it. The novel takes place in a charming little town in France with lots of quirky characters: a police captain who once had a thing for the protagonist, an ex-con man husband turned vintner, a depressed best friend in the throes of a divorce, and a cast of characters who wish to become the heir of an estate. I will certainly buy the previous novels in this series to understand the beginnings of the relationships of the main characters.
