4.0 étoiles sur 5 Sounds like Raul Malo and the Mavericks 10 décembre 2006
Par Ronald Van Scherpenzeel - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
Rick Treviño had many hits during the 90's and sounded like most of the

C&W singers of those days all very much influenced by Garth Brooks. When

Rick joined the fabulous "Los Super 7", he met Raul Malo of the Mavericks

and they became very close friends something you can hear and feel on this great CD.

The music is just like The Maverick's and his voice has

changed from the Garth way of singing to Raul's which is a must better

choice. The song " In My Dreams" by the Mavericks is still a little bit

better but the rest is well done especially "Overnight Success", "She'll

Never Know" and the wonderful "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman".

However I prefer Rick in his contributions to the Los Super 7 albums,

of course singing in Spanish, with songs like "Mi ranchito", "Ojitos

Traidores", Cupido and the best of them all "El Ausente". On his latest

recording he claims "I don't care about Mexico and I'm better off north

of the border" which I think is a rather unfortunate statement because

his roots are Mexican and there are a lot of hispanic fans all around

who really enjoy his music whether it is Country, Tex Mex, Conjunto or

the old traditional latin songs. By the way, why do they always print

Trevino instead of Treviño. Is he ashamed about the ñ which is a letter

that only exists in the Spanish language?

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Mature Trevino; Surprisingly flat 24 novembre 2009
Par Tanya Penrod - Publié sur Amazon.com

While Rick Trevino's vocals have matured wonderfully, emotionally Trevino fails to bring it to the table. The title song, "In My Dreams" is probably the best song off the album. Hauntingly beautiful, Trevino brings longing to the song and nails it. "Heartaches" and "Overnight Success" bring the playful sounding Trevino along which most of us fell in love with to start with. Trevino's cover of "Have You Really Loved a Woman" while having a beautiful arrangement and had every chance of making us forget Bryan Adam's version fell flat vocally. The rest of the album is largely forgetable. All in all, a rather disappointing album from someone with so much talent!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 In My Dreams - Rick Trevino 28 septembre 2003
Par Cheryl - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Rick Trevino is brilliantly talented, an exceptional singer/songwriter who has gold records in both Spanish and English; he is also an accomplished classical pianist. I met him at a radio promo "meet and greet" back in 1997 and I recall that he was genuinely humble and seemed completely unaware of the magnitude of his many talents. I missed hearing him on radio and I have been waiting a long time for this album. I am happy to report that the wait was well worth it.
In My Dreams is, by far, the best thing I've heard in months. It isn't only the music that makes this album -- it's the voice -- that powerful, resplendent voice.
You can definitely hear the Tejano, or Tex-Mex, influence but it is a subtle asset to the overall sound. When he sings the chorus of "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman" in Spanish ... well, I was already sold on the album but that really sealed the deal for me. In fact, I have one of his older albums titled Mi Vida Eres Tu. I think it is the Spanish version of his mega hit, "I Only Get This Way With You." I'm not sure, and it doesn't matter, since I don't need to understand the words to be able to feel the music and enjoy that magnificent voice.
It is clear from this album that during the break in Trevino's career he has only gotten better -- vocally and instrumentally. Truthfully, I didn't think that was possible and I'm thrilled to find out that it is. On a target scale of one to ten -- this one is an absolute bullseye.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Rick Trevino returns (El vuelve!)!!!!! 13 septembre 2003
Par DanD - Publié sur Amazon.com

Yeah, okay, so Spanish isn't my forte, and I can't do any of those fancy appostrophe things on the Internet. Sorry. Let's just get on to this CD.
Rick Trevino is an unusual sort. His nineties music was basically radio-friendly garbage; yet his voice lent it a cool edge. "Bobby Ann Mason," "Running Out of Reasons to Run," and "Learning As you Go," for example, helped introduce me into country music. Then he went and did some Spanish stuff (which I haven't heard, I'm ashamed to say).
And now he's mixing the two.
Really, this CD deserves an extra half star just for this mergance of two sounds; I absolutely loved it, even if Trevino's songwriting leaves a lot to be desired. The lyrics on this CD don't really stand out; the tone, the feel of the music--THAT'S what you notice.
Take the title track. I saw the video on CMT not long ago, and though I tuned in half-way through, and though Trevino has changed his appearance slightly, and though his voice has matured a little, I said to myself, "Rick Trevino's back." This song--we're talking "In My Dreams" here--is powerful and emotional, dragging you in and holding you under. The same could be said of the first song, "Overnight Success," though it does it through more upbeat riffs and notes.
The last song, "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman," is a remake of pop/rocker Bryan Adam's Hispanic-flavored ballad. Trevino adds his own touch, singing the last chorus in Spanish (actually, it makes you wish the ENTIRE SONG was done in Spanish). I didn't think a Bryan Adams tune could be successfully recorded by someone who borders on traditional country...but then, it appears that I was wrong.
Trevino's music IS traditional country. I'll be honest--I see no big radio hits on this record. What I see--or, rather, hear--are ten songs, mixing two genres of music, delving into life and love and hardships. I see--hear--a good time, a man content with his voice and performance. Rick Trevino is an artist who can deliver the goods with satisfactory performance. He may not be an over-the-top, over-achieving performer; we don't want him to be. We like him as he is, because this is what he's best at.
IN MY DREAMS is a CD well-worth buying. You'll enjoy it; trust me.

Rick Trevino's "In My Dreams" really was a pleasant surprise. I'm a big fan of Los Super Seven, which lead me to try out a Rick Trevino CD. And this one is actually good enough to rival Los Super 7's impressive output.

The CD is a good mix of classic country mixed with Tex-Mex, Americana, and honky tonk. I love the flameno/gipsy guitars that are sprinkled throughout the album.

I was surprised at how much I liked the cover version of "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman". I didn't care that much for the original by Bryan Adams, but Trevino's is spiced up nicely.

This CD is produced by Raul Malo of the Mavericks. It definitely sounds like it has his touch on it. I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who's a fan of Raul Malo's music and Los Super 7's CD's. Good stuff!
