Présentation de l'éditeur

Adult NYTimes & USA Today bestselling author presents:
It started with a stolen kiss …fire.
Wild and headstrong, fiery Myriah Whitney is wild of nature, contrary, and independent. But when her father catches her kissing the handsome Sir Roland (how else is she to determine if he is the one who will make her feel thunder and lightning, hear bells and music?), he declares that her days of headstrong independence are over. She will, he commands, announce her engagement to Sir Roland—immediately.

But in an age where marriages are about alliances rather than affection, practicality not passion, Myriah wants more—she wants to fall in love. And she does not love Sir Roland. So she runs away to her grandfather with her faithful manservant, Tabson, at her side.

A wrong turn in the fog, however, leads to the discovery of an injured young man, and before she knows it Myriah is caught up in world of intrigue and secrets. And when she meets the young man’s older brother, the mysterious Lord Kit Wimborne, the sparks fly. Their first encounter—in his bed, both of them naked, no less!—is an explosion of wills, and it is what finally set Myriah on fire.

She has, it seems, finally found her thunder and lightning…
an excerpt:
She lay staring in utter disbelief
at the stranger she was still holding in her arms

Lantern in hand, Kit moved upstairs to his bedchamber. He was surprised the drapes in his room had been pulled tight but was too tired to contemplate the mystery. He set the lit lantern on a side table and shrugged out of his clothes. He then picked up the lantern and made his way to his bed, setting the lantern on the nightstand. However, there he stopped short.
Someone with long, flaming ringlets of hair was lying face down, covered only to her waist—in his bed!
His first thought made him grin. His puppy of a brother had no doubt brought her home with him, but why would the rascal send her off to his bedchamber?
Drape mystery solved, and another one to contemplate.
“Now what to do with you, sweet,” he murmured. Grinning, as he thought, One shouldn’t infringe on one’s brother’s property—but really, Billy, why the devil did you put her in my bed? This question repeated itself, and still grinning, his lordship decided the only thing to do in such a situation was to wake her—his way!
He nibbled at her delicate ears and placed a warm kiss on her throat. She groaned pleasurably. The sound stimulated him, and he leaned over her and took her mouth with

I really enjoyed this book. I am no historical romance aficionado, so I cannot tell you whether the details regarding the period are correct, but I can say that the author developed an interesting story line. The fact that this was a heroine I could really get behind helped tremendously.

Myriah is no shrinking violet and does not suffer from the usual 'heroine insecurities' of 'what does he see in me'. But neither is she bratty and self-centered. She is soft-hearted, brave and honest with her feelings, at least when it matters most.

Set in 19th century England, this is the story of Myriah, a young lady whose father is impatient for her to marry. When faced with the prospect of being forced to marry a man she does not love, she runs away, intending to go to her grandfather's house. But she and her servant become lost on the way and the real adventure of her life begins.

If you enjoy a sweet love story, likable characters, and a light sprinkling of sexual tension, I think you'll enjoy Myriah.

Myriah Fire as I understand it is a revised and somewhat sexier version of one of this author's previously published books. Frankly, I could care less about that and find it absurd that the review slated as the most helpful critical review alleged that some type of fraud has been perpetrated. I find absolutely nothing wrong with an author rewriting one of his or her own stories and republishing it. Neither do I find anything inappropriate with said author republishing their reimagined story under an alias. My goodness, people really do get into an awful snit over nothing!

Anyway, I found Myriah Fire (Myriah('s) Fire seems more appropriate) to be a reasonably entertaining read. The plot was predictable at time but it was still interesting enough. The character development was minimal. The pacing of the story was good. However, one of the mains problems I had with the novel was that the storyline seemed to either lack depth or the plot wasn't flushed out enough. Every aspect of the story felt as if it was constructed and executed in a minimalistic manner. Although, I liked Kit and Myriah well enough as a couple I really didn't feel as emotionally invested in "them" as I would have liked. I would never claim being an expert on regency or Victorian era societal norms and acceptable behavior of women during that time. However, even I found some of Myriah's actions inconceivable for that time period. To her credit the author did attempt to offer explanations for Myriah's totally unconventional mind set and behavior but even those didn't complete alleviate my doubts. I did enjoy Myriah and Billy's banter and friendship. As for the love/sex scenes, I found those fairly nondescript and rather disappointing. The HEA ending was fine but the manner in which the story was concluded felt very abrupt. Furthermore, that final line spoken by Myriah hardly seemed like something that she should or would say in front of her father and grandfather. High spirited and unconventional I can attempt to accept but such suggestive line spoken in front of the aforementioned seemed beyond the pale even for Myriah. The story only constitutes 89% of the novel. Most of the rest is an excerpt from one of the author's other novels. There were some proofing errors but none that I found overly distracting. I won't say that I would "never" read another book by this author but what I will say is that it is unlikely that I will specifically seek out her other works. This book was free at the time of this posting.

"Myriah Fire" is a well written love story filled with suspense and adventure. The feisty heroine and hunky hero are electric. I would have given this a five star if it had not been for the vulgar language and explicit sex, which were not really needed. I really like Claudy Conn's writing. I just wish she would realize that the language and sex scenes are not necessary.

Not sure why several reviews were annoyed the H & h had sex; it does happen between men & women all the time. I think the few dashes of heat kept the story from getting too dry & showed some women did fight against the double standard, just not w/every Tom, Dick & Roland. It would have been nice if there had been of a build up to it, but both were surprised by their feelings.

I also like the story wasn't 300+ pages like most of the regency tales, I don't mind giving a few hours to a good story but I'd rather not make a few day committment.

The ending was a nice surprise & I really enjoyed it.... esp. how Kit handled Roland, it showed class & compassion. I would read another of Conn's book, she has a lot to offer.

I really loved this book. You couldn't help but fall in love with Kit and his Mischievous brother . And Mariah she was a fire cracker not letting anyone tell her she couldn't do or sample what men do . This book was like a cloak and dagger with some naughtiness on the side. Mrs. Conn really knows how to tell a story to were her readers can actually visualize what is going on. This is a must read. I recommend this book to everyone.
