The Mystery of 2012 is highly recommendable for being a very comprehensive overview of the different scientific and spiritual approaches towards the question of 2012. It is written by the leading authors in their respective fields, and they offer high quality insight into the topic both for newcomers as well as for people with some previous knowledge. I was looking a long time for a book or a website who would offer my exactly this type of comprehensive overview, and I am fully satiesfied with what I got. Only negative point is maybe the length of the book (over 400 pages), and even though it is fascinating to study the year 2012 from 25 different perspectives, after having read 15 of them the motivation to continue significantly decreases. Therefore it might maybe be better to consult first the chapters one is specifically interested in, without hesitating to leave out the other chapters.

What a bunch of New Agey globbley goop! A big mish mash of writers trying to explain the mystery of the Mayan calendar's prophecies for 2012, except none of them explained anything. Unless you are a crystal gazing, granola crunching, Birkenstock wearing, yoga master none of this will make any sense. There is a lot of talking in circles-the Mayan calendar holds many mystical secrets. The Mayans were very mystical and knew many secrets. The Mayans created the Mayan calendar. So, now you can see the Mayan calendar is very mystical. It's this type of explanations you will find in the book.

Although, it's the anti-materialism theme throughout the book that really got to me. One author used the analogy of sitting around your thanksgiving table with your other family members. In this example you are the only one who seems to have made anything of your life, possibly having gone to school, received an education, waited until you were stable to have a family, paid your bills, worked hard all your life, accepted responsibility and lived a clean wholesome life. On the other hand some of your siblings dropped out of school, laid around, partied day and night, squandered their money, maybe had a few illegitimate kids, and on and on. So, for Thanskgiving dinner your plate is the only one piled with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the trimmings, but your brother sitting next to you has a frozen TV dinner. According to this author that situation is just unfair and you (the responsible hard working one) should give your brother (the lazy one) half of your thanksgiving dinner.

As I read one example after the other of how greedy wealthy people are and how evil big corporations have become, I laughed out loud, because I was reading this book on my iPad. So, at the same time I'm reading about the greedy, evil monster corporations I'm aware the writers and publisher has no problem taking advantage of all these corporations have to offer them. And I'm sure they had no problem typing out their books on a laptop computer with software made by Microsoft. (Yeah, you know that greedy, evil Bill Gates who has donated millions of dollars to charities).

I did not finish the book. It was making me nauseated. If I ever picked it up again it will be after I hear that each of these New Age authors have donated their royalties to those who are less fortunate than they.

Trust me, don't buy this book.

This was a gift for an ex boyfriend that was obsessed with the end of the world coming..... He really liked this books and read it regularly. He would also occasionally even point out things the book said. I never looked thru it, because it didn't interest me, bud the seemed to really enjoy it.

A truly mind numbing read. If you have an open mind, you will be enthralled by it, if not you will awaken a long lost part of your mind and start thinking (it may be a new experience). I thought the Amazon price for a hard cover volume incl p & h a give-away. I will try Amazon before I go to any other site for good quality reading material. This particular title has widened my search for what may happen to the universe if we continue as we are. See also the Kogi Indians of Colombia.

What is so special about the year 2012 that so many books and publications have it as their subject? The answer to this question is what I wanted to find. First I bought Greg Braden's book on the subject, found it excellent, and got alreadz quite a good idea about the important changes that our world will encounter or is already encountering. But I wanted to know what others have to say about it, and thought that this book would be a one to read. Indeed, what a great collection of experts were invited to give their opinion. Real experts they are, they even contradict here and there each other! This is not amazing, they come from different disciplines, have different experiences and try to interpret their information the best they can. But all in all they agree on the fact that it is very likely that we have important choices to make. The choices may have a great impact on how we, our children and grandchildren will continue to live on our planet. I find that when these experts, great leaders, thinkers, shamans, scientists, in short, wise persons, come to this conclusion, we better take this serious and listen to what they have to tell us. Via the references and web-sites mentioned, there is no shortage in possibilities for getting more information on what needs to be done.

redundant treatise on 2012. Too bad so many writers keep trying to "cash-in" on poorly written materials. Sure the subject is "pertinent" to many, but I no longer read GB's book unless I can borrow it from the library. Just another book that went to Salvation Army.
