Présentation de l'éditeur

Bernard Harrison is credited for having shaped Singapore’s most attractive and iconic leisure destinations — the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari. For nearly 30 years he was intimately involved and engaged with the transformation and creative developments of these nature parks. This book explores Harrison’s journey and focuses on the critical phases which served as moments of reckoning. How easy was it for this passionate and determined man who couldn’t and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer to do what he really and truly wanted? What shaped his personality? What problems did he encounter in wanting to create a zoo and a night safari that Singapore could be, and is, proud of? In both the personal and the professional fields, his positioning of certain beliefs and value-systems are put in context and readers will be made aware of the intimate drivers of his passions

I had the honour to work with Bernard from '89 to '02 and Dr. Ong until his demise. The book brings back memories, esprit de corps and the feeling of being in a big family. It was a sad day when Bernard resigned and on his last day at work many a colleague were openly crying (not mentioned in the book) and I had tears in my eyes which is rare for me, coming from a family where it was not appropriate for menfolk to shed tears in public.

With all due respect to Ed Macalister, we from the middle management upwards had an inkling that Bernard was going to resign soon. Bernard was he was so patently unhappy and when he did his swan song, I must admit that my gut wrenched for I knew that his announcement was coming next.

The are more zoo stories to tell - Tekong and Ubin elephants, wild tiger chase in Ubin, Bernard and Subash crawling in sewers looking for the panther, kit and Paolo getting into trouble with check point authorities because of the dart gun and Bernard getting us off the hook (we owe you boss, never did really thank you properly for that)......hopefully this is not the last book.
