Présentation de l'éditeur

The soil is more than just a substrate that anchors crops in place. An ecologically balanced soil system is essential for maintaining healthy crops. This is a comprehensive manual on soil management. The whats and whys of micronutrients, earthworms, soil drainage, tilth, soil structure and organic matter are explained in detail. Kinsey shows us how working with the soil produces healthier crops with a higher yield. True hands-on advice that consultants charge thousands for every day.

HASH(0x9eae1a44) étoiles sur 5 An absolute "must-read" for any professional in the field. 9 décembre 2006
Par Midwest Book Review - Publié sur Amazon.com
Written by agriculture technology experts Neal Kinsey and Charles Walters, Hands-On Agronomy: Understanding Soil Fertility & Fertilizer Use is an information-packed guide for soil scientists and professional farmers alike. Now in a newly revised edition, Hands-On Agronomy covers how to balance soil nutrients for maximum yield, why simple N-P-K fertilization isn't enough, how to properly use manures, compost, tillage, and micronutrients, and much more. Written in straightforward language, offering techniques and wisdom from practical experience and for practical use, Hands-On Agronomy is an absolute "must-read" for any professional in the field.

While I don't agree with every approach in the book, it is well written, laid out in a common sense way that is easy to understand if you have basic Agronomy knowledge.

This book is on my desk and gets referred to often. It's a must read for farmers and Ag professionals.

I received my degree in Soil Science in 1979 and discovered the many concepts outlined in this book in 1982. If they had been taught in my program, agriculture would not be in the state it is in today. That is: crop production would have become and remained high instead of become high for a while and then steadily declined afterwards. If you are looking for a sustainable solution to managing your farm, this book will help you tremendously. Hands-On Agronomy

This is a book often recommended on this topic, but I felt like most of it was an ad for Kinsey's consulting. The running theme seems to be, "You need to talk to us if you want to understand your soil results". The book is littered with examples of growers who had XXX problem, submitted soil samples, and upon Kinsey's advice saw an increase in yield of YYY. But having read the whole thing, I can't say there's a lot that an individual is going to be able to apply to his or her own operation, unless you're just looking for a lot of endorsements for the idea of micronutrient management to begin with. For me, I'm already on board, and I'd guess most other readers are, too. I'll be looking elsewhere to find the information I'd hoped to find here.

As a rank amateur,I don't have a degree in soil, but am trying to improve my suburban garden. I just got this book, and only finished the first chapter. Despite it consisting only of text, with an occasional boxed quote, no diagrams, pictures etc, I find it enormously interesting and hard to put down. It is as if you have the erudite Kinsey over your shoulder as he weaves stories, teaching points, and personal biography to build knowledge step by step. I got some practical uses out of it already and look forward to absorbing the rest. I call this book a wonderful use of money and am so glad I decided to get it.
