I have the two previous Somoma Diet Cookbooks and I have literally worn the binding down. They are now loose leaf books. I love to cook and especially enjoy the fresh herbs and vinegarettes suggested in the recipes. The only reason I did not give this book a 5 is that many of the recipes are repeated from the first book. There is some addtional philosopy in this book updating the more current dietary thoughts on fruits which is the most notable difference. The actual binding seems a little sturdier so this may act as a replacement to the first book for me.

I am 10 days into The New Sonoma Diet plan... I have the old Sonoma Diet book, and did that one 7 years ago. I liked it so much that I decided to do it again! Then doing my research I found out that Connie Gutterson had made a second book, The New Sonoma Diet and just had to get it. I'm So Glad I DID!! The recipes in it are not difficult to follow, they do take a bit of time, but the results are So Worth it! Like I said, I've been on this new diet plan for ten days now and have already lost almost nine pounds! The recipes are ALL so tasty!!! I'm about to head into "Wave 2" and am super Excited! I get to have a glass of wine with my dinner! How many diet plans allow you to have wine I ask?? Anyways, for those who want to lose weight and love to cook, I definitely recommend this book! And also the Sonoma Diet Cookbook as well, it gives you lots of other recipes to try out! Happy Eating and Losing! :D

This is a diet plan that makes a lot of sense - it is a healthy plan in which you eat very good food, but it may not be appropriate for everyone. If someone is extremely busy, doesn't like to cook or doesn't want to spend much time in the kitchen preparing meals & planning ahead, then this wouldn't be the right one to follow because this plan does require a lot of preparation & planning.

My husband and I are one month into the diet. He's lost 20 lb and I've lost 7. The majority came off in Wave One. My husband's was more drastic because his portion sizes had been larger than mine to begin with. This is a very "do-able" diet plan. Really, it is a change in eating habits and the way we think about food. Veggies and fruits vs. "fruits and veggies"; what's our protein and grain for this meal. It's made my meal prep easier because I just think about how we should fill our plates (protein, grain, veggie, fruit) -there are MANY options and combinations to fill your plate with. Everythng in it makes sense -whole grains, glycemic load, nuts, whoe foods(not processed). I am recommending this to anyone wanting to live healthier and lose some weight.

This book is, in a word, AWESOME! Let me start with my success story. I started the Sonoma diet on March 19, 2011. My goal was to lose 40 lbs. The reviews of this book were so positive, I was sure it was going to work for me. And it did. I weighed in at the start of the diet, and even before I had completed the 10 day induction period, Wave I, I could feel I was losing weight. On day 9, I just had to weigh myself and see how I was progressing. I had lost 10 lbs. in just 9 days. In exactly 10 weeks, I lost the 40 lbs. I was aiming for. Never mind the weight. At my next doctor's visit, my blood pressure had fallen dramatically, and my cholesterol level dropped from 255 to 155.
The Sonoma diet should be thought of as a lifestyle rather than a diet. By the time you get to Wave 3, which is your maintenance phase, you've trained yourself to eat the RIGHT foods in the RIGHT combination in the RIGHT amount.
I followed the meal plans from day to day, as written, because I really didn't want to have to do a lot of thinking. The recipes are FANTASTIC. You use lots of spices and fresh herbs, so the foods are flavorful and satisfying. I was never hungry, even during Wave I, the most restrictive phase. Be prepared to eat loads of vegetables and whole grains. There's a good variety of protein, however. One night you'll have chicken, another pork, another beef. The great thing about this "diet" is that there is so much variety.
You can't help but lose weight and feel better on this diet. The subtitle, "Trimmer Waist, More Energy in Just 10 Days," is right on!
It is almost one year later and I have maintained my weight loss by eating the Sonoma way. Thank you, Connie Gutterson!!!!
