Présentation de l'éditeur

“An engaging love story with strong, believable characters. I can’t wait to read the sequels!”
—Mary Balogh

“Prepare to fall in love.”
—Julia Quinn

Presenting the winner of the Avon FanLit contest, the immensely talented Tessa Dare! Tessa’s first Avon historical romance, A Night to Surrender, is a love story to remember—kicking off her wonderfully inventive Spindle Cove series, set in England’s Regency Era in a small seaside resort town that caters specifically to ladies “of good breeding and delicate constitution.” Fans of Lisa Kleypas, Christina Dodd, and Liz Carlyle will delight in the passionate chaos that ensues when a dashing British officer, under orders, “invades” this community of strong-willed “spinsters,” only to discover he’s met his match in Miss Susannah Finch!

Quatrième de couverture

Welcome to Spindle Cove, where the ladieswith delicate constitutions come for the sea air,and men in their prime are . . . nowhere to be found.

Or are they?

Spindle Cove is the destination of choice forcertain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men; it is a haven for those who live there.

Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this place but spinsters . . .and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders togather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisiteSusanna Finch—a woman who is determined tosave her personal utopia from the invasion ofBram’s makeshift army.

Susanna has no use for aggravating men;Bram has sworn off interfering women. The sceneis set for an epic battle…but who can be namedthe winner when both have so much to lose?

A lovely romp! Although the characters may not have been as well developed as one would like, and perhaps the sex scenes were too early and too often, the main characters' thoughts and feelings were well handled -- enough to understand the characters, but not wallowing in their thought processes. Surprisingly good accounts of medical practices at the time but I have no idea if the ball and chain episode is based on historical fact. It is rooted in practical medical theory and plausible within the story line. The story's setting is creative, the atmosphere is mostly light-hearted and the sheep -- the sheepherding scene is delightful! On second thought, considering the sheep scenes, the characters are probably developed just right - this is excellent entertainment.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Too long and a disappointment in the Spindle Cove Series 6 janvier 2017

Another disappointment for me by this author. Surprising, because this was an earlier work that I had still not read and her recent books seemed to be all going downhill for me, especially the very silly Castle's Ever After series, (with the exception of Say Yes To the Marquess which I personally enjoyed and thought worth the read). However, this was way too long. Not sure why. there was no need for it to be so long and developed. Although this was the first in the famous, Spindle Cove series it was certainly not the best. A Lady By Midnight and A Week to Be Wicked were the best in this series. Goddess of the Hunt and One Dance With the Duke were two other's that are worth the read and great Tessa Dare. However, loved the hero I this. Never should have cut his hair!!

Okay, everyone. I just started Ms. Dare's second book in her Spindle Cove series and just HAD to jump back here (Book One) to send off a review. This author is so very talented! I just LOVE her writing! (The honesty between the H--Bram--and h --Susanna, the "snarky" banter which is so much fun, the believable storyline , Ms. Dare's ability to make me feel as though I am actually there--in the story with the residents of this little community, .... I could go on and on!) For those who wish to know, there are some sexual steamy scenes, but they aren't as overdone as in other books. Based on the reviews of others, I took a gamble and bought the entire series all at once. Let me just say I AM SO GLAD I DID! I highly, HIGHLY recommended this series! It is so much fun!!!! Now back to the third chapter in her second book!

owe two big hugs to Tessa Dare. I admit I read the Spindle Cove series backwards. The first Tessa Dare book I have ever read "Any Duchess Will Do" book 4. was purchased in a fundraising "Bazaar" for the local humane society several years ago. I had not read any of her books and the exorbitant price of 25 cents seemed a reasonable gamble. Not only did I enjoy the book, and the entire concept of Spindle Cove but after a great deal of frustration searching thrift shops, resale shops, yard sale and fundraising book sales all in vain to locate other works, a friend told me to try Amazon.com and its now my own personal library resource; lthe second hug due Ms Dare.
Having read the last of the series with its references to events after the time of the first three volumes did nothing to diminish the reading of the first volumes except to satisfy instant gratification for the next installments, a circumstance of this volume since it took me several months after reading volumes 2 and 3 to find it offered by my favorite seller.
The book itself, sets up the circmstances, characters and settings for Spindle Cove but without overpowering the reader with too any characters yet providing enough information about several to make guessing who the next volume would be about a bit of a challenge. The time period is latter days of the Napoleonic wars, the central female role is one of only several permanent residents of the seaside village and the obvious social arbitrator. The central male role is a newly titled millitary officer, recovering from wounds who must set up local militia defenses for the cove.
The writer skillfully plays the strong blue-stocking social abritrator off of the spiritually as well as figuratvely wounded military commander who will broke no challenge until at times a hanky is necessary-not to sigh into but to laugh into. And yes I would suggest finding all four volumes if you haven't already, before starting the first one, because waiting to find the next installment would try the patience of Job. Enjoy. I hope she writes Sally's story.

Tessa Dare's A NIGHT TO SURRENDER (2011) is the first of her Spindle Cove series and stars Susanna Finch and Victor Bramwell. Susanna is the unconventional "spinster" mother hen of this village filled with other spinsters and Victor Bramwell is a recently wounded soldier. Intent on returning to active duty by getting the recommendation of Susanna's father, an esteemed inventor, Victor along with his crew of two make way to Spindle Cove. What follows is a humor-filled story full of high jinks and romance. A NIGHT TO SURRENER is a better than average romance with a cast of likable and intriguing supporting characters (particularly Corporal Thorne) whose stories I'm interested in knowing from reading the rest of the series.
