This cd is definitely the best of New Found Glory, and is one of the top cds in my collection. I usually am more into harder punk like NOFX and Rancid, and ska like LTJ or Voodoo Glowskulls, but how can you not love this album. The lyrics are meaningful and easy to relate to (for a young 15 year old like me), and the lead singers voice is amazing and passionate. The guitar riffs are great and the drumming is insane at times. The new album is okay, maybe 3 and a half stars, but this one takes the cake. 1. Hit or Miss- An awesome track, the new version is a single, but this version is better, with more passion in Jordan's voice. 2. Never Snows in Florida- Amazing guitars in this song, really showcases the talent of the bassist and guitarist. 3. 3rd and Long- Easy relatable lyrics (my name isn't dissapointment, i only dissapoint myself), gets stuck in your head forever, which isn't neccesarily a bad thing. 4. You've Got a Friend in Pennsylvania- Good song, not the best, but good, and really emotional lyrics on Jordan's part. 5. The Blue Stare- One of the best tracks, great drumming, true punk. Should've been a radio single. 6. 2's and 3's- Pretty good, but kind of just blends in and is easily forgetable. 7. Tell-Tale Heart- Excellent lyrics, good guitars, fun to listen to. 8. Winter of 95- Amazing song, lyrics apply to me and situations I've been in in more ways than even I can understand. Can't help but sing along with this one. 9. Passing Time- By far the best song on this cd. In the song, Jordan basically tells about one part of my life exactly, and listening to this really helped me get through it. Fast, emotional punk rawk, it slows down, then climaxes with the "i'm never to far away..." 10. Never Sometimes- Starts slow, picks up, but probably the worst track. 11. The Goodbye Song- A good end to the cd, overall good track. The hidden stuff after it is pretty funny. So there's my lengthy, and probably boring review. If you like this cd, try bands like Midtown, The Ataris, The Juliana Theory, Saves the Day, and the Get-Up Kids.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Paving the way for platinum success... 25 octobre 2004

Before "A New Found Glory" was blazing the charts with hits like "My friends over you", "Head on Collision" and most recently "All Downhill From Here", they were 5 local boys from florida testing the waters with a sound already made famous by bands like Blink 182 and Green Day. To distinguish themselves, they decided to combine the melodies and fury of Pop-punk with the emotional vocals of emo, creating a sound that set them apart from anyone else...

Hit or Miss...My favorite version of this song, by far. The catchy melody and intoxicating music hooks you in, and the ultra-catchy verses and chorus keep you coming back for more 9/10

It Never Snows In Florida...The opening chords are really catchy, as is the rest of the song. Again, the vocals and melody are raw and emotional, and the chorus WILL get stuck in your head if you're not careful 9/10

3rd and Long...This one took a little while to grow on me. The chorus is kinda boring at first listen, but after a while it gets better 7/10

You've got a friend in Penn...I love this song cuz its so freakin catchy. The best part comes at the end though when Jordan sings "Wait for me like I've waited for you" in a tone so raw and emotional its insane 9/10

Blue Stare...Eh, okay, i guess 6/10

2&3's...I like this one alot too, mainly cuz of the lyrics. Its also pretty catchy 8/10

Tell tale Heart...VERY CATCHY, the lyircs are stuck in my head RIGHT NOW 9/10

Winter of 95'...Repetitive, but good. As usual, its very catchy and very fun 8/10

Passing Time...Fast paced, very catchy, and lyrically its good too. Probably one of my favorites on the album, and that says alot cuz' they're all good 9/10

Broken sound...Another great song, not much to say except i like it and its catchy 8/10

Never Sometimes...Eh, another less than stellar track, but i guess it grows on you after awile 7/10

Goodbye Song...A great way to close a classic album, although every other NFG album had a stronger closer later on 8/10

New Found Glory found fame on MTV with the song "Hit or Miss," and while the album which bore that song (their self-titled) is one of my favorites, I must say that this album must definitely be hailed as a much more classic version of that album. "Nothing Gold Can Stay" will appeal to anyone that says that "Cheshire Cat" is Blink-182's best album. New Found Glory's self-titled is one of those that is well produced, and due to the almost lack of producing on this previous creation, it stands out as a sort of novelty in the genre. If you can obtain a copy of the song "Hit or Miss" from each of these two albums (it appears first on this album and then recreated - not just repeated - on their self-titled) then you will hear two very different experiences. The latter-released version is perfectly mixed and produced and was no surprise as the first single to be released off that album. The former-released version is far grungier, and while no less fun to hear, it appeals more to the hardcore fans of New Found Glory and those that collect albums in the pop-punk genre.
I'd say that if you are looking for a place to start with this group, then I would not recommend this album whatsoever. Start with their self-titled album, and if you enjoy it immensely then consider picking this album up also. If you don't love that album then you are not missing anything by missing this release. However, if you adore their self-titled then you are missing a lot by not having this album. It shows that even in the early days they were quite talented and did a great job writing appealing songs with catchy riffs and harmonic mixes of heavily distorted guitars (which is a difficult task), leaving the melody almost entirely to the vocalist. Their self-titled marks the first time they wrote a truly complicated and very original song (check out track 5 from that album "Second to Last"), but this album displays a great amount of writing ability also, and is a must-have if you adore these punkers.

First off, I a not a kid, I'm 17.

Like the title states, I think this is one of the greatest pop punk records ever. It may not be the most technical, the best produced, or the most original record of all time, but it certainly is well written and fun. Each of the different band members brings a certain style and flair not pulled off in this genre. Chad was in a Hardcore band known as Shai Hulud and knows how to lay down some heavy guitar. Steve doesn't play half bad either. Cyrus can play some pretty steady beats and keeps the rhythm well, he may not be the most tallented but he sure can play better than a lot of people. I wish we could hear Ian more, A New Found Glory has a tight rhythm section so I know that he is good. Last but certainly not least is Jordan. Man, I love his vocals. It may turn more than a few people off about this band, but in this record they are delivered with a lot of emotion, but don't dare call them emo, than with later records. The songs are all well written and I can't find a bad one on "Nothing Gold Can Stay." The sound clips have been taken out and do not distract from the listening experience. Sure the production sucks but I wouldn't have it any other way. It suites the music very well. This is, in my opinion, the best New Found Glory CD. So if you are a fan of the band or just looking for a great pop-punk album you have got to pick this CD up.
