Présentation de l'éditeur

2013 RITA® Finalist for Best Paranormal Romance

A sensual, page-turning read that brings together two unlikely lovers in an explosive world of danger, beauty and supernatural forces.

There exists a world beyond our own. It is a world of ancient magic and well-guarded secrets, of strict laws and harsh punishments for those who betray them, inhabited by the Ikati, a race of gifted people with unimaginable powers. It is here where two people with dark pasts meet.

Morgan is beautiful, smart, sexy…and about to die. Convicted of treason against her shape-shifting kin, she is given one last chance at redemption; discover the hidden lair of the enemy intent on destroying every one of her kind, or forfeit her life.

Xander is ruthless, heartless, cold-blooded…and assigned to kill her if she fails in her task. Expecting to feel nothing but contempt for the traitor under his watch, the assassin accompanies Morgan on her search, but as the two race through the heart of Italy while the clock winds down to zero hour, he finds himself drawn into a dangerous web of desire as powerful as it is forbidden. Their passion will test everything they believe in, and endanger the future of the tribe itself.

If I had reviewed the first book in the Night Prowler series Shadows Edge,I would have given it 5 stars. This book,
Edge of Oblivion, I would give 6 stars to if I could. It was just that good. The story was so imaginative when it came to the world of the Ikati that the reader will feel like they are a part of it. I won't go deep into the plot since several other reviewers have done so already. The romance between Morgan and Xander is the heart of the story and Rome is the setting. I have never been there but after reading this I want to go! The introduction of Eliana and D into the story is setting up for the next book hopefully. I loved the characters and can't wait to read the next one in this series. There is plenty of action and scary moments but the romance was the main ingredient. The author definitely knows how to tell a good story. It would be a good idea to read the first book in the series before reading this one. Enjoy!

Again J.T. Geissinger manages to keep me up past my bedtime ... Shapeshifters ... I just love them. Panthers... how cool, right?

I had a lot of fun with the first book with its setting in the dark and foggy forests of England. This time the setting is the beautiful city Rome in Italy. Sigh... bella Italia...!

The second book "Edge of Oblivion" tells the story of Morgan and Xander. We already met Morgan in the first book "Shadow's Edge". She is an interesting character and a very free spirit. After she made a huge mistake (in Shadow's Edge) the Ikati give her two weeks under the attendance of the assassin Xander to find the Ikati's worst enemy - the Expurgari - and proof that she could be trusted again. If she fails, Xander will be the one to kill her... The fact that (despite their cat-and-mouse game in the beginning) they fall for each other - will make this task a tough one for Xander.

A wonderful book. The growing love between the assassin and his `mark' is very sweet. The enemies in this story are unusually interesting. Except for the Expurgari they're looking for - they come across a feral colony with a king that is a bit too interested in Morgan. Add the beautiful scenery of Rome, J.T. Geissinger's magic with words and a lot of action... and here we go... 4.5 stars.

Thanks for another Keeper, J.T!

My favorite quote: "Like a ghost I haunt the twisting corridors in those silent, dark hours before dawn, my thoughts a sea of hungry rats, chewing holes in my mind, devouring the memory of the naïve girl I was."

My rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book and could have read it a lot faster if I hadn't just started a new job at the same time I received it! This was Morgan's book with her love interest being the Ikati Assassin Xander. It was great getting into her head and seeing how much she genuinely regretted what she did and maybe even craved home a little after trying to escape it for so long. There were also a couple of pretty big twists regarding the Expurgari that I won't reveal but that did take me by surprise at the end!
Xander was easy to like as well, he really had a rough childhood, much rougher then Morgan but he was a good person despite his own poor opinion of himself. I loved these two together as in a lot of ways they can understand each other better then just about anyone else.
I loved meeting the new colony as well and seeing how different they were from the colonies we know. I can see a future story involving Eliana and Demetrius being developed with how the book ended. I'd love to see those two end up together and I think that her fathers research may be important to the Ikati race and be life-changing for them so I'd like to see how it plays out and whether their colony will now make contact with the other colonies, reach out to them and form an alliance of sorts. I'd quite like that, they could come out of the tunnels and live above ground like the other colonies. I also want to see when Jenna (from the first book) is gonna start changing laws to improve the existence of female Ikati and to allow greater freedom in the tribe. I do hope that Morgan returns to the tribe eventually. I think she will miss them and that once she's travelled she may yearn to return home. Espeacially after what she learned. Can't wait for the next book! I was so exited when I learned that the author had been contracted for another four books in this series!

Sometimes an author is lucky (or maybe I should say talented) and all the stars align perfectly so that the end result of all their hard work, a finished and published book, is exquisite. Edge of Oblivion is a sublime example of a paranormal romance, and I was both dreading and anticipating getting to the last page. Edge of Oblivion is published by Montlake Romance, a publishing arm of Amazon. I'm extremely impressed with my first experience with this publisher. Geissinger's writing is top-notch, and the cover art is gorgeous. Have I used enough superlatives yet to describe how much I enjoyed this book? A word of warning to any under-aged readers, however: this book is recommended for adults due to some extremely hot and unexpected sex scenes!

Although I haven't read the first book in the Night Prowler series, Shadow's Edge, I was immediately immersed in the story and only felt a few twinges of confusion here and there. But the author does a great job of subtly inserting vital information from the first book where needed, without bashing the reader over the head trying to catch us up to speed. Morgan is an Ikati, a secret race of shape-shifters descended from Cleopatra who can turn into panthers or vapor, or both. Morgan is part of the Ikati colony in England, one of four known colonies. The story begins in high gear as we find Morgan in prison, awaiting her fate for betraying her tribe at the end of Shadow's Edge. At the last minute, Queen Jenna makes a deal with Morgan. She has two weeks to track down the sworn enemy of the Ikati, the Expurgari, whom they know to be hidden somewhere in Rome, or she will be killed. Accompanying her on this fated journey is an assassin named Alexander, the man assigned to kill Morgan if she can't complete her task. Geissinger sets these two characters up in typical romance fashion by pitting them against each other in the beginning, and then creating opportunities for them to grow closer together.

In Rome Morgan and Xander run into a rogue Alpha named Dominus who is not affiliated with any of the four colonies. Xander senses danger and tries to catch him, but he gets away. But the damage has been done. Dominus, having the superior sense of smell that all Ikati have, has figured out that Morgan is a full-blooded female who is unmated, and he wants to use her in his evil plan (which I will not give away in this review!). Xander and Morgan temporarily forget the reason they have come to Rome in the first place, as they try to avoid Dominus and his band of powerful and feral Ikati, who are all relentlessly chasing Morgan. The story is nearly non-stop action from this point on, as Morgan and Xander find themselves in danger time and again, while continuing to look for the hidden Expurgari before the two weeks is up. In the midst of all the action is the blooming romance between Xander and Morgan, with plenty of misunderstandings thrown in to muddy the waters and keep readers hearts palpitating before the climax comes, so to speak. A few sub-plots are mixed in to give the story a broader feel, as well as several characters who will most certainly play a leading role in Geissinger's next book.

The author has done a bang up job with her world building, and I enjoyed every detail of the Ikati, including their powers of shape-shifting. Xander can not only turn into a panther, but he can also shift into vapor form or pass through walls. Geissinger doesn't overdo it with the shape-shifting, however, which I was grateful for. She concentrates more on the relationships between the characters, and less on their lives as panthers. The life of an Ikati is a hard one, since they are required to live in secrecy, and several of the characters, in particular the female ones, have never seen the light of day. The author does a great job portraying the horrible loss of freedom these women suffer, and their desire to live beyond the constraints of their male superiors.

I honestly couldn't find anything wrong with this book, and I have to admit it's one of the most exciting reading experiences I've had in quite a while. Some of the scenes had an almost Shakespearian intensity to them, and I'm bemoaning the fact that Night Prowler #3 is probably months away from publication. Romance novels may fall into the category of "guilty pleasure," but if that's the case with this book, I happily consider myself guilty as charged. Full of perfect pacing, seriously dangerous characters, and some super steamy romance (and I do mean super steamy, folks!), Edge of Oblivion should be the next book you read. If you're over eighteen, of course.

Many thanks to Emily LaBeaume from Wunderkind PR for bring this book to my attention, and for supplying a review copy.

I was introduced to this series by my sister, and I have to say I couldn't put them down. This is the second book and it delivers the same satisfaction as the first. If you are into shapeshifters, action packed chase scenes and a great love story, buy this book (heck the whole series) you're gonna thank me. :)
