Présentation de l'éditeur

Liz Dougherty has no idea that a single question is about to change her life.

Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.

But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.

USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde’s Record series begins with a sleek, sexy, and smart venture into a high-stakes political campaign and an even higher-stakes affair that, in the end, will leave you wanting more with one of Linde’s gripping cliffhangers.

This is one review I have no idea how to write because every thought I have will be immediately followed by a contradiction.

There were parts of this story that I wanted to skim through because it was just too slow moving for me... and then there were parts of the story that I found myself completely absorbed in without even realizing it was happening. There were times when I felt as if I wasn't connecting with the story, and then there were parts that felt like I was being gripped and squeezed from the inside in that way I love so much.

I felt very torn with my feelings on Liz. She was likeable for the most part, but her indecision and lack of a backbone irritated me more than once. I wished she was a stronger personality than she was... With that said, a stronger personality would have drastically altered the entire story which is not what the author was going for. So I get that. I get that, and I don't. A total contradiction, I know! There's just no easy way to explain myself, so go with it.

Brady Maxwell. Brady is all the things I imagined he'd be. Sexy. Charismatic. He runs this show. I was missing a connection with him for the beginning part off this book. I didn't understand how Liz was so taken with him after being so unimpressed with him at first. A piece of the puzzle was missing for me, I wished I felt that draw. It just took me a while for the whole situation to grow on me, which kept me, as a reader, at a distance when I really wanted to be inside of it. With that said, all of the parts of this story that captivated me were Brady's doing. The scenes where he opened up, let the reader inside, those scenes completely drew me in and had me yearning for more.

I should have lead with the fact that I absolutely adore K.A. Linde and I will read whatever she hands me without question. She's a diverse author and I never know what she's going to produce. With Off the Record, she showcases her depth of knowledge in politics, something she didn't just research, but had first hand experience in. Her impressive crafting of this realistic story, weaving a political race with sexy romance is extremely refreshing. It's original and interesting, and so different from anything she's written before. Despite the fact that this story started out with my conflicting feelings of disconnect, there's no doubt that her writing grows with each story she delivers. Bottom line, while this story was a consistent up and down ride for this reader, the parts that worked definitely outweighed the parts that left me wanting more. I ended up both invested in these characters, and committed to their story. I'm anxious and impatient for book 2!

Secrets big or small can destroy everything and anything you value.

Love is big, strong, and can take a beating. It can lift you up or break you.

? Too many questions make for insecurities and doubt.

Altogether they create a story that leaves you holding your breath waiting for a decision that may never come...

A book friend of mine kept telling me to get this book. Everyone she saw a teaser or post she would tag me. So I bought it, but it sat on my kindle for the last year plus without a thought. Until I got an email...

The audiobook!

Once I got over my snobbing audiobooks, I've been ravenous for them. This one drew me in and made me find ways to keep my hands busy while listening. I couldn't stop.
I look forward to diving into the others in the series. (I have since bought all the ebooks.)

I’m not one for politics and usually political romances don’t cant my interest either, but something about Off the Record caught my eye. I was thrilled to discover this new series and talented author, this totally reminded of the TV show Scandal with its romance and clever storyline.

Off the Record follows Liz Daughtery who is a sophomore in college at the top of her class, as well as getting a chance of a lifetime by being asked to her first big reporting experience. Liz is excited to be apart of the press for her college newspaper class for a last minute press conference, with the very attractive and young senator Brady Maxwell. Liz isn’t prepared when she is chosen to ask him a question, which she gladly throws him a curve ball question. She of course catches Brady’s eye and the two discover even though they don’t agree with politics, they share a passion for romance.

Liz is a smart cookie; she studies hard and has a dream of being a journalist. Working for her college newspaper has given her great opportunities with writing and being mentored by her crush Hayden Lane. But after her ballsy question she is zeroed in by the Senator of her state Brady Maxwell, he is impressed and intrigued by her. Liz isn’t sure how to handle the attention she’s getting from the Senator and dives in to a secret with him. Their romance is a secret because of his career and her schooling. Liz is thrown many challenges with her heart between Hayden and Brady, as well as eventually falling hard for one of them. But when she is given a choice that could hurt her or the guy she wants, it’s going to be a hard road no matter what she chooses.

Brady and Hayden are so different, I loved that we get two men who the readers will like for different reasons. Brady is full of wealth, sex appeal, smarts, snark, passion and cant get enough of Liz, while Hayden is an adorable smart and hard working student that gets Liz. In the end I’m rooting for Brady because he challenges Liz in all the right ways, he makes her better and makes her really think. It may or may not end well for them and since this is the beginning of the series there is a lot to look forward too.

Overall I really enjoyed the start of this series, I can’t imagine the secrecy that those in the political field have to deal with. The secondary characters don’t get much attention but when they do they are either hilarious or you love to hate them. Its was interesting to see a take on how hard it is the have a real life while dealing with politics and romance, can you have both? After the eye opening ending, I look forward to continuing with the series.

This is an adult novel with sexual content meant for mature readers over the age of 18+. Fans of Wallbanger by Alice Clayton and On Dublin Street by Samantha Young will love Off the Record by K.A. Linde.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Soap opera with major flaws 16 juillet 2016

Soap opera of an immature 19? 20? year old college student (Sophomore) and 30+ year old candidate for US Senator (btw, the min. age to run for US Senator is 30). He wants a fuck-buddy on the down-low, she agrees then changes her mind because she's in love. No self-respect, but's a romance. So what's the problem? 1) Lots of drinking by our heroine in public places (21 for hard liquor, folks) despite being under-age. Meh you say. 2) She has two more years to go in college and she's on full scholarship. Meh you say. 3) She's running the political section of the school newspaper and is awarded a political research internship. Never mentions her conflict of interest to anyone. There's also some lip service to ethics which obviously is ignored. The whole story is delusional.

I stumbled upon Off the Record one rainy day as I was browsing through Kindle Unlimited. I read a little about the premise of the book and I thought why not give it a try? I had absolutely nothing to lose. I was searching for a writer that was completely down to earth because i couldn't handle another one of those books that were super smutty but terribly written. I literally couldn't put this book down! I stayed up all night hanging on practically every word. The main characters had substance! Which is something I hadn't seen for a long time. There were moments I laughed out loud and had a few strange looks from my husband. K.A. Linde is an amazing writer she makes you fall in love with her characters. The way she writes it not only has you on the edge of your seat it makes you want more ! When I read this book i was thankful that the second book in the series was already published....I read both of these books probably within 48 hrs of each other.... The wait for For the Record was painful because it is just such an amazing story. I truly invested in these Characters. Even the ones you Love to hate..... I was like a kid on Christmas when Struck from the Record came out and i am eagerly awaiting the last book that is coming. * Warning* Once you pick up a book written by K.A. Linde you will be hooked! The Record series was just the beginning. I have read everything that she has come out with so far and have yet to be disappointed. Happy Reading !!!
