Mine was missing a couple of pieces and had a ton of extras. It is entirely possible that I misused them (they were both clear) elsewhere in the castle so I don't blame the set. Luckily they were in non-required places so I just built around the holes and you can't tell they are missing.
The set looks awesome and looks fantastic on my desk. The LED's are in 3 places and each rotate through a series of colors every few seconds. Yes, the set is expensive... and yes it is worth it. The quality and fitment isn't quite up to par with Lego, but I would say it is 90%-95% as good. It is certainly acceptable though.
MANY reviewers complained about there not being enough pieces. But darn it I really wanted this thing. So before I assembled anything, I counted. Every single piece in the kit and every single piece required in the instruction manual. What I found: 1) every item that was 2x8 or larger had exactly the right number of parts. 2) many item smaller than 2x8 had at least 1 extra. 3) every part I needed was present. 4) There are 3 different greens that are not very easy to tell apart, and if you don't have them all sitting in front of you, disassembled, the green from the courtyard and the darker green would easily be confused and lead to the conclusion there aren't enough parts in the kit.
I only have 2 useful comments other than the above: 1) I would have murdered someone had I not also purchased the nanoblock tweezers. 2) it's ridiculously easy to lose pieces. If you drop a white 1x1 in your lap and stand up to try to find it and have light carpet, you'll never find it. Recommend not assembling over carpet.
The box was shipped quickly and without any damage. She started right away putting it together. All but the trees are now left to build, which she claims are a bit difficult to put together due to the fact that they keep falling apart. Unlike other reviews, she also stated that there has been several pieces left over from the castle. No missing pieces here.
Pros: Great detail, Small footprint, Great LED lighting effects
Cons: None that we have found
Here are some tips: You don't have to sort all the blocks at once. Sort the ones you need first and then you will be done with that color for the most part, black, dark gray, green for example. I sorted them into small zip lock bags which were fairly easy to access. Work under a good light and don't get in a rush.
I folded the book backward to see only one page at a time and used sticky notes to cover up the illustrations I was not using. This helps focus your attention on each section.
Make sure each piece is seated into position. You can see if there are any gaps. They are pretty tough and hang together. Use tweezers to hold them and push them down. You will be able to turn it upside down and there should be no loose ones.
For me, the hardest ones to work with and see were the clear ones and the dark ones, blue and black but once you get the hang of it, there shouldn't be any problems.
My only wish is that the lights were white and not rotating colors. It really is an awesome looking castle with all the detail. Have a great time with it and I will be glad to answer any questions.
