A suivre Broken, Enemies, Legacy, Destiny, Power

I read. A lot. Mostly I dismiss what I read as soon as I put it down. I've read it before. It annoys me that this series stays with me. Maybe it's shame as the young adult genre is usually filled with such crap. But Mr. Crane has crafted a new story. It's fresh. It's intriguing. It captures the attention of this most jaded reader. The is not spectacular. It wavers sometimes on the line between the overly descriptive senior year creative writing assignment and an under articulated emotion of the moment. There is too much reliance on visual description - which hopefully will improve in time. Perhaps one day, the author will have the luxury of taking real time with his stories- and then we his readers will have a true treasure in which to lose ourselves. I give this latest book four stars- I'm returning a favor....the author gave us something new. Not a rip off. Not an old story with great characters that distract us momentarily recognizing we've read it before. He doesn't resort to lurid sex and pathetic romanticism to get us to like him. No. He gave us a story. A really, really good story.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Sienna realises that often the only difference between a friend or a foe, is that there is none... 14 février 2013

I am going to start my review with the last chapter or ending of this book.
Plot-wise it is by far one of the best endings I have ever had the pleasure to read.

Now those that know me and my reviews, well they are aware that I can be quite critical, but I am in my heart of hearts a plot-led reader and a good one will always win me over.

Crane has written an ending, which could be The End to the series. It is the quintessence and core of Sienna. Her mind, her heart and her soul.
If you have been following this series, as I have, then you will close this book with one of the following: a feeling of anger worthy of the Gods themselves or with a tear in your eye and a deep ache your heart.
If you are new to the series this one can be read as a stand-alone novel, but I would suggest starting with Alone: The Girl in the Box, Book 1 to be able to understand Sienna completely.
Luckily for myself and others this book is only the midway mark and there are more to come.
Although the author has created an almost catalytic event in the book and one that will most certainly divide the emotions of his readers, it is also the way forward. It opens the road to something, which has been a long time coming.
I have taken great care not to reveal any details at all, so this review may seem to lack any info, but I wouldn't want to spoil this brilliant read for anyone.
I received a free copy of this book for my review.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 MR. CRANE - I HAVE AN ISSUE... 24 avril 2013

I have followed the series from the start and I have to say that not only was I a crying mess by the end, I wanted to follow up with Heather Rodefer (his Editor-in-Chief) and punch him like she did.

This series has been a different type of journey from the start. Humans with special powers, relationships made, sides chosen, and all along I've been pulling for the main character, Sienna, to have something GOOD happen to her.

All punching aside, this was an awesome book, and even though when bad things happen to good book characters -- I still want to read the next installment! I consider my overly-emotional reaction to the plot twist to be a testament to the depth of the character development that have been brought to life in my mind's eye through this series.

Okay Mr. Crane - there better be some kind of wonderful happening in Book 6!

I love this series of books, and can hardly wait for the next one to be released!
The Author, Robert J Crane, belongs up there with the likes of James Pattinson etc!
I highly recommend that you give "Girl in a box" a try, you won't be able to put it down...... then you are Hooked!!!

This book hurts. Look, I know it's neat to use death to give meaning to later actions. BUT....I'm one of those readers that prefers that death is not a tool to be used to change the MC like a hammer. ONLY if it was the pivotal origin point event: example, Bruce Waynes parents being killed in front of him that changes his destiny forever as a child. For FRAK's sake, we're book 5 and NOW you do something like that with Sienna? REALLY?? There are a multitude of ways to have a character grow, develop and harness their great power. Death of a loved one so deep into the story should be the last thing. At the beginning? Sure. Later? maybe not so much.

You've given me no hint as to how this EVENT will change her. Sure, it will make her a vicious killer and hater. But the greatest fictional warriors of our time are not vicious killers : see Batman, Daredevil, Captain America, heck even Hulk. We love them for what they are: Badassery on two legs and a willingness to do it, yet not drop a single bit of blood. Unless it's a giant robot army or Nazis. Nazi's getting killed are ok. Who doesn't love to kill a Nazi?

All the same, you've traumatized this reader. I'll have to take a break from your books and come back when it's all over and done. In the meantime I'm gonna go read some other novels and hopefully the writer over there won't use DEATH of a loved one to force change on their MC. IMHO the use of death to change an MC is a sign of weakness of the writer if he can't find any other way to do it.

See you on the wild side.
