Présentation de l'éditeur

You've read E L James, you've seen the Fifty Shades movie, you adored This meet the hottest new trilogy...

Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.

All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment - nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him...or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addicting that she never knew existed-and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside.

To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses becomes her obsession - an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair...

Biographie de l'auteur

Jodi Ellen Malpas was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, UK, where she lives with her family. Working for the family construction business fulltime and with the prospect of taking it over once her father retired, she tried to ignore the lingering idea of writing a novel until it became impossible. She finally found the time and courage to release her creative streak and in October 2012 self-published This Man as an e-book. She took a chance on a story with some intense characters, notably Mr. Jesse Ward, the Lord of the Manor, and sparked incredible reactions from women all over the world. Two months later, Jodi made the decision to give up her day job to concentrate on her new and very unexpected career in writing.

I love "This Man" serie (give me Jesse every day!) and awaited (very) eagerly for the next work of Mrs Malpas but I must honestly say I was a little bit disappointed till 95% in the story.
I didn't like Miller. At all. There, I said it. I found him cold, distant, hard to read, confusing, too gentelman, I could go on and on. So, I planned to give it 3 stars maximum except, he redeems himself at the very end of the book. The facade is cracked open, the pretense is no more we see/guess why Miller is so controlled and distant.

The last 5% are worth 5 stars. Yes, it becomes heated, angsty, dramatic, interesting, AT LAST! And we can forsee much, much more to the future. There is so much potential for twists and turns.

Some will find there is plenty drama earlier in the book but I was not gripped by these shocking events. In my eyes (a review is obviously subjective and gives the reader's opinion and in this case, my opinion) it felt like a warm up and now the author finally has found her (brilliant) pace.

So, I'm now a happy hopeful reader and will wait again for book 2 in the serie. Please Mrs Malpas, dive right in and keep going were you've left us: on our toes. I've great expectations for the next one. I do hope it comes early.

I really loved the 'this man' trilogy from JEM and was looking forward to her new work. She captured me with the story of Livy and M. I can't wait for the next book. It's a must read if you love the genre!

Cette histoire ne sort pas de l'ordinaire mais reste plaisante à lire.
L'interaction entre les deux personnages principaux est un peu simpliste et manque pas mal de "piment".

HASH(0x94d6e7ec) étoiles sur 5 I am sad to say I didn't like it 5 août 2014

That awkward moment when you realized that you didn't enjoy that much, a book you wanted to read so bad.

Our mysterious M is not that captivating. He's is sexy as hell I will tell you that much, but I didn't like his personality. He's not definitely Book Boyfriend material for me.

Livy. I didn't like her. She was childish and a lot of things about her were just unbelievable. Actually a lot of things about the story were repetitive, not romantic ( I Couldn't feel sparks between them ), M was rude and arrogant in a not a sexy way. I love Alpha Males, but they way M is, the alpha male personality is like too much for him to handle. Makes me not love him at all. He looks like a creepy stalker and not in a Christian Grey way.

At the middle of the book i was struggling. I wanted to end it asap and when I reached the mark were I knew Livia's secret ( she has one ) and I figured out M's secret ( way too early I figured that one out ) that's when I realized the book reached the predictable status.

Some things were similar to 'This Man" series and other books i have read. I am a BIG fan of Jodi's "This Man Trilogy". I love Jesse Ward. That trilogy was a 5 stars for me. So yes, I am sad. The book wasn't what I expected.

5 Stars
One Night - Promised by Jodi Ellen Malpas
I am stunned. I loved This Man, so I suspected Jodi's new series would be good, but I am blown away. It may be sacrilegious to say this, but I believe she may have outdone herself. I believe this new series is even better than This Man, and I never thought I would ever say that about any series.
"M" is a man that you will fall in love with. You will wonder, like Livy does, about his history, about his idiosyncrasies, but you will not be able to take your eyes off of him. He is a fascinating man, a bit obsessive-compulsive, a bit too proper, a bit too mysterious and secretive, but he is still 100% sexy maleness. I have no doubt "M" will find a comfortable place in your heart right beside Jesse Ward. There is a new Lord of the Manor!
I would love to tell you "M"'s real name, however I won't ruin the suspense for you. But I will tell you that it is revealed very early in the novel. It does not become a big issue like Jesse's age was in This Man.
Livy, on the other hand, is one of the best female characters I think I've ever come across in this genre of erotic romance. She is fully developed with a fascinating back story that will leave you shocked and tearful. I love her sass. I love her innocence. I love her humor. I love her independence. She is totally smitten by "M", but not so much that she cannot confront him when necessary. She is not simply a doormat waiting for "M" to rescue her. I fell in love with Livy, and I think you will to.
The secondary characters are great as well. I loved her Gran. Her gay best friend, Gregory and her waitress co-worker/friend Sylvie. All of them could probably star in their own novels.
The plot is pretty well laid out in the synopsis you have probably already read. A mysterious man, who signs his note with only "M", runs into a sweet little waitress, Livy, and makes her an astounding offer. Spend one night with him, 24 hours, and he will worship her body, making sure she has experiences she will never forget. As you can imagine, things escalate from there. Of course one night is not going to be enough, for either of them. But they both have terrible secrets. Will these secrets tear them apart? Can they overcome their pasts in order to have a future together.
Of course I can't answer these questions for you, but I can tell you that this book does not wrap up their story. We will all have to wait for the sequel, One Night - Denied, due to be published in November, 2014, to find out what happens next. I, for one, cannot wait.

I went into this book with no preconceived notions and willing myself to make no comparisons to the Lord of the Manor. Anything after This Man is a tough act to follow. One Night Promised left me very confused and wondering what's really going on? The story opens up with a prologue that will have you guessing until about half way through the book you put two and two together. We are introduced to Livy a barista at a coffee shop with sapphire eyes and enough demons that consume her life. One day she meets "M" (don't worry ladies about 4% in you find out what the "M" stands for) he ignites something in her allows her freedom and robs her off all sense. I honestly felt the interactions between "M" and Livy were mechanical almost forced her past makes no sense as to how she is sexually in their relationship. She acts as if she is a novice and the sex scenes seem more this happen and that happened no fire in my opinion. Livy's best friend who reminds me a lot of Kate from This Man speaks out against the significant other ("m") and then forces the friend to be with said other. I couldn't help but think this book sort of had parallels to Fifty Shades of Grey the don't touch me, being meticulous, having these rules but breaks them because of the girl being so pure. I just feel like this book was a mixture of Jodi's previous books with the characters. I get that converses are her thing but I honestly was looking for something fresh here. This is not a diss or to speak ill against the author because let's face it it's a lot of work writing stories and coming up with something new. This is just my opinion as one reader. What I may not like others may love. I just didn't particularly care for this story. I was frustrated with Livy always running. Sound familiar? And the ending it couldn't get anymore 50 shades. Not that the book was bad because it did have some laugh out loud moments Nan was awesome and very spunky. And I think Jodi is an excellent storyteller this just wasn't my favorite. I found myself skipping through a lot of the story because it started off so slow and dragged on. Just when the story started picking up the book ended. Judge for yourselves. This wasn't my favorite but I look forward to see how this trilogy will carry out.

HASH(0x94d6ec60) étoiles sur 5 I don't want to read about a prostitutes. Spoilers 19 janvier 2015

Wow, I like no one in this sad and pathetic story because both leads male and female are prostitutes.

Best friend Greg, it's ok drink with me, I will keep you safe. Leaving her while you go screw a guy, great friend.

Really, your mom leaves you to be a prostitute so she has to go and be a prostitute at 17 to know why her mom did it. She wanted to be a who're and kept doing it. The pimp turned her away. But here is want is unbelievable, she goes to her mom's pump, has sex with the same men her mom did, um one of those men could be here dad. She didn't just do it once but over and over, she said she hated it but didn't stop? I can't like or respect any one who does it for no reason. What 17 year old becomes a prostitute just because she wants to know why her mom liked it. She chose to have sex with the same men as her mom.

Just stupid and unbelievable. She is just a whore, I don't like reading about a female whores. She didn't have to be, she was not forced, didn't need money, not just once, she hated but chose not to stop. Not romantic. She is just stupid, sad and pathetic. But keep saying she is pure and beautiful in and out. Um no she's not, she is a whore.

And of course he is a prostitute. That was a given from the start. But I love the no Condom for sex. Yes, you don't need to wear one for him.

I like to read books where I want to be in "her" shoes or that I want him as my man, neither of these are the case.

Ok! Please do not be upset at me for my review, I kept a clear open mind a mind that did not picture Jesse in this book. I just could not get into it , some of the writing seemed to drag on and on and I didn't click with M at all.
I felt the storyline lacked and the characters didn't fit together.
I am sure that I am the only one that felt like this as the Author is amazing with her This Man Trilogy, and please read the book do not go by my review alone, I just didn't connect with the story.
