Présentation de l'éditeur

Fresh out of the Academy, Ensign Cody Riggs follows his legendary father Kyle into space with fiancee Ensign Olivia Turnbull by his side. But instead of enjoying a quick trip around Earth's federated star systems they are thrown into a battle for their lives as their ship is hurled hundreds of light-years from home with no way back. Fighting hostile aliens and enemies within his own crew, Riggs finds himself facing challenges he never envisioned as he takes command of the battlecruiser Valiant in a desperate bid to survive and return home.

Joined by a new supporting cast as well as favorites from the first nine Star Force books such as Marvin, Kwon and Hoon, this first volume of a new Star Force series delivers all the action and adventure readers have come to expect from BV Larson and David VanDyke. Read it first, or go back to Star Force Book One, SWARM, and experience the saga from the beginning.

The new Saga in the Star Force universe begins with OUTCAST, the longest book in the series. OUTCAST is a full length novel of military science fiction by bestselling authors B. V. Larson and David VanDyke.

It 's good to see the follow up using new characters
And so far the start of this sequel seems @ the same intensity level of the previous one.
Good material ...
Can't wait for the second book

5.0 étoiles sur 5 It's nice to see this story continue. Highly recommended. 12 mai 2014

I was a bit skeptical at first that the story could pick up after the end of the original saga, but I was absolutely delighted with the direction this is going. A spoiler here: I really like the idea that the team is lost. That's a new twist that has great potential for lots of future story-telling.

One of the strengths of the previous saga is that the stories somehow remained fresh and not very formulaic. I hope that will continue. Hint: Not every adventure has to include near-defeat in a hopeless battle with aliens. If they remain cut off from Earth, they'll eventually run out of crew to die in battle. I hope the author explores other ways of keeping the story intense and fresh.

I was a little disappointed in the beginning of this one, as the now aging Kyle and Jasmine seemed terribly out of character. Jasmine in this saga seemed like an entirely different person. Kyle and Kwon both seemed a little shallow compared to their characters in the previous saga. Nevertheless, I believe this story is a real winner. If you enjoyed the original Star Force series, you won't regret starting this new one. I hope it continues into many new novels.

What happens to your story hero when he gets old and apparently has accomplished everything he was planning to do? Well, you make sure he had a son some where along the way and then you start writing about his adventures. So, out goes Colonel Kyle Riggs and in comes Cody Riggs!

And as the son of most famous person in the universe, you tend to get defensive about your own actions which is just the way Cody Riggs is acting. He doesn't seem to take anything seriously. Even though he manages to graduate from Star Force Academy with his girl friend Olivia, nothing really seems to bother Cody Riggs because he knows he can't compete with this father's legacy.

Then his girl friend and fiancé gets killed on what was to be a pre-wedding joy ride in her fathers new space yacht. Cody doesn't know who killed her or why or even if they were really after her in the first place. But he vows to find the killers and put an end to them. In so doing, we are on another space adventure with a Riggs and eventually, Marvin. Certainly by now if you've read any of these books you have heard of Marvin and have an opinion one way or another on his value to the story line. I personally think Marvin should have been dismembered a long time ago. But no, he's still around to mess with Cody Riggs and cause trouble.

You'll find out that this story takes Cody and his fiancé sister, Adrienne, out of the Solar System and through another ring gate only this time, the ring gate is one way! Cody also meets some new aliens in this new system who at first seem friendly enough except for a slight misunderstanding in language. All six officers, including Admiral Turnbull, leave to meet with these strange looking aliens and all six do not return. Riggs is now the only Star Force Academy office on the battleship, Figures!

From there it's one fight or flight after another with no friendly civilizations any where around. Cody has to manage just like his father did making life or death decisions at every turn. They flee one star system to another only to find hostiles waiting or friendlies that need help but don't appreciate the help he and his crew give them. Along with Marvin, Cody Riggs puts on another show of brilliant tactics and war fighting abilities that surprise even him.

I found this book easy to read and very enjoyable except for some of the parts dealing with Marvin. I think he gets too much freedom when he should have been melted down a long time ago.

The story line continues....

Couldn't understand at first why this book is so different from the other ones in the series. It is written for 13 year olds with lots of adolescent themes and really childish stuff. Than noticed that it was written not by Larson but by some other guy and apparently Larson just signed the bottom line so to speak :(. Disappointing.

Well the Riggs family are back in a new generation. While Dad has returned to his ranch in California, his son decided to follow in his footsteps, all of his footsteps. Here we have the young man as a newly branded ensign fresh from the Star Force Academy and on furlough prior to his first assignment.Of course story takes an extreme left turn as the young Riggs and his rich British girlfriend leave on a romantic tour in the Family yacht to consummate their relationship and upcoming nuptials. As always the girl does not survive, it just doesn't pay to be female and get involved with a Riggs. From here the adventure begins with the usual strategy: lasers, missiles and hope and pray. As always the BV uses the same scheme, a Kirkish leader (as in James T) that is one step ahead of everyone else including Marvin the robot (Spockish) who is the jester with grasp of technology beyond the mere mortal coil to rush in with the new tech as required. Character development is not the strong suit here but for a space western, well a new marshal is in town and a fun read ensues.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A worthy follow up to the Star Force series. 9 octobre 2014

First time giving a review here at amazon. I've read the entire Star Force series (and the Tech World series as well), and enjoyed every one of these books! Most of them are 4 or 5 star worthy in my opinion. This particular one is the first collaborative work (of Larson's) I've read, and even though I give it 4 stars, and look forward to the next book, I am a bit disappointed with it. At some parts I got annoyed at the language and overall editing. I wish Larson would keep writing by himself, but I also guess the collaboration will get better if they stay at it.
Overall very happy to see the series going on, and I do recommend any sci-fi fan to give it a try.
